Volume 43 June 8, 20 17 This may or may not come as a surprise to you, but all the water falling out of the sky this week has the pastor in me thinking about one thing: baptism. The Presbyterian Book of Order has this to say about baptism: "Baptism enacts and seals what the Word proclaims: God's redeeming grace offered to all people. Baptism is God's gift of grace and also God's summons to respond to that grace. Baptism calls to repentance, to faithfulness, and to discipleship. Baptism gives the church its identity and commissions the church for Baptism gives the church its identity and commissions the church for ministry to the world." ministry to the world." And so, despite being stuck inside, these rainy days have further deepened my sense of gratitude for all the ways our church is living into its baptismal identity through ministry to our neighbors here in Glynn County and beyond. Whether through the ongoing work of the Refugee Taskforce or the outpouring of generosity to a local family in need or volunteers serving the hungry at Manna House, we are living into our baptismal identity by living out the Gospel truth that God's redeeming grace is indeed offered to all people. Whenever we serve - whether in big ways or small - we are responding to the fact that because God loves us we are called to love others. Like you, I am hoping that all this rain takes a little break sometime soon. Summer after all is no fun without a little sunshine. But whenever it does rain next, take a moment to remember your own baptism, and in that remembering may you (and we as a church) continue to consider how and where God is calling us to respond in service and love to the world around us. Peace, Alan

Musical NotesMusical Notes

I hope that many of you have gotten a copy of An Altar in the World byBarbara Brown Taylor. This book is the starting point for a Summer SermonSeries that goes through August. I've been reading it in order to makedecisions about the music for services, but have really enjoyed her"earthiness" and insight into the ordinary things of this earth and humanity. Thefirst chapter is "Waking Up to God." Waking up has never been a fun activity for me. Ask my family or those I'vebeen with on retreats. I'm essentially a night owl and operate best duringthose hours. The sound of an alarm makes my heart race and scares meawake. Yuck. I end up dreading the different ringtones that I use for varioustimes. My new phone has a ringtone for wake up that starts with soft birdsong, getting louder with more birds chiming in as it goes on. This ringtone has reallyhelped and I still really like waking up to God's sounds in creation. How do youwake up? The Chancel Choir will sing an energetic hymn (one of the new ones in ourhymnal) - Hallelujah! Sing Praise to Your Creator (18) for the Introit to wake usup to worship this Sunday. Our anthem, Lord, I Believe, by Larry Shackley isbased on the words of the Apostles' Creed. Liturgically, Sunday is TrinitySunday. We will sing perhaps the most well known hymn about the Trinity (thefirst hymn in our hymnal) - 1 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty and 450 BeThou My Vision. Love & Gratitude, Rhonda
