Rise to the Leadership ChallengeLeader- a person who has commanding authority or influence; (2) something that ranks first. ~Merriam Webster Dictionary

- A Boss says “Go”- A Leader says “Let’s Go”

Leadership- process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task.

A leader need not have any formal level of authority, simply a willingness to improve conditions, or excel to the next level.

Rise to the Leadership ChallengeWhat does this mean to you?

Time for some reflection and analysis

What are our goals as individuals and board members? Do they coincide?

What steps must we take to have our voices heard?

Ultimately, as board members what is our purpose?

And how do we find happiness in what we are doing? What is the Pursuit of Happiness?

Fair Market Value = The price someone is willing to pay, as well as the price someone is willing to sell for. So, it is the middle point where a win-win can be established. We must find the FMV for EDUCATION and clearly demonstrate this to Legislature.

Support Groups - We must get groups of supporters together who understand that the more School Boards have their hands tied, the less their children receive in the form of quality learning. Groups of teachers, administrators, parents, students, media, and local officials.

Foundations - Create local foundations where revenues can be contributed for the purposes of band, books, athletics, trips, computers, etc…

Opportunity Cost - The loss of the next best alternative. Because we choose to do something, means that we can not do something else. Because your child was sick at home on Tuesday, you could not be at work. Well there is an OC in Education as well. Because budgets are getting cut from the School Boards means that they can not retain or utilize the resources they need to provide the most quality Education that they can, which affects our KIDS!

Fair Market Value

Service Vs. Results• Businessmen sell a product or service and are measured by

revenue creation but are valued by their overall profit. Profit being defined as “The price one sells it for divided by my total costs of goods sold.”

• Politicians are often measured on 2-4 year intervals. The time before, during, and just after they serve. The value comes in the processes, laws , fiduciary responsibilities, and justice that they either voted for or against, but the key is 2-4 years. Important primarily due to federal & state grants.

• School Boards do not have this luxury. They are measured on Schools’ Performance year after year, but even larger than this, they are measured on Quality of Life. Quality of Life for each student that has passed through their domain, and this is often a 12-14 year measurement if a student stays in the system from K-12. This is the Real Measurement.

Rise to the Leadership Challenge

Because of AASB, and leaders who dared to dream, people of my socio-economic background, people who the statistics have written off, & people who have faced unyielding challenges have been allowed to not only compete, but achieve in an exponential way, then become valuable, productive members of society. And this my astute colleagues keeps me out of 2 places? Anybody know where those are?
