Unless We Become “Doers” of The Word,
Our Claim toFaith is Empty
Al Menos Que Nos Convirtamos En “Practicantes” De La
Palabra, Nuestra Profesión De Fe No Vale Nada
The second reading for today begins a fi ve-week series of selections from James, a letter that is classifi ed among the so-called “catholic” (or universal) epistles because they are addressed to a general audience rather than to one particular community. Today’s text off ers important advice for Christians of every generation. God is fi rst cited as the author of all gifts, and in particular, reference is made to the gift of baptism by which we have been made the “fi rst fruits” of the new creation.
What follows is advice based on a very Jewish understanding of the “word” as an active force, operative in the world. We are reminded that unless we, too, become “doers” of the word, our claim to faith is empty. Today and in subsequent weeks the author reminds us that it is equally important to do the “works” of love, for example, by caring for the “orphans and widows in their affl iction.”Copyright © J. S. The Rock Is Our Foundation Fr Cesar recently visited the new boulder that will be placed on our property to hold the cross that will display our “gratitude” tiles. It is beautfi ul...and big! While meeting the men who will shape and deliver our cross’s foundation, he got a tour of the warehouse where the work will take place. These hard-working men were proud of their workspace, yet what Fr noticed was the humble altar they created to keep their faith in mind while on the job. Their altar was inspired by a cut stone that resembled the shape of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Fr off ered to bless the altar since it is a permanent part of their space. A worker quickly off ered a bottle of water for blessing and Fr took care of the rest! We are excited to see the boulder delivered soon as our project continues.

Our Middle School and 5th/6th students enjoyed a “jump start” to the school year at the summer intensives with Mrs. Carroll, Coach Sean, and Ms. Irma. Through project-based learning and leadership development activities, they got a sneak peak of some of the outdoor learning we will continue this year. Topics of the week included chicken research, fi rst aid training exposure, making videos and Google Slides presentations, and exploring the prairie grasses and fi eld of Notre Dame. After a full and fun week with Coach Sean, the students are ready to be positioned as leaders of the oldest cohorts in our school and start the school year strong!
