L'Arche Atlanta's annual benefit auction is a celebration of all the qualities, values, and people that make this community possible. That includes you! L'Arche cannot fulfill its missions without your generous support. Your donations and purchases allow us to create community where adults with disabilities can experience dignity, joy, and a true sense of belonging.
Your support fills the gap between the operational expenses for the L’Arche Atlanta home beyond Medicaid payments, allowing our Core Members and assistants to share life together. It allows us to host community events that create spaces of inclusion for more adults with disabilities and their families. And it enables us to advocate at the state level so that more adults with disabilities can flourish in Georgia.
Given that our mission is about building community among a population that is disproportionately vulnerable to the dangers of the COVID virus, the safest course of action this year was to turn the annual auction into a virtual event. The pandemic has caused many challenges and disappointments; perhaps because of these challenges, we are all the more grateful for your friendship. Thank you for making lemonade out of lemons with us by celebrating this special community virtually September 13-19!

In the L'Arche Atlanta community, people with developmental disabilities (whom we call Core Members) are not clients, patients, or recipients of services; they are friends, teachers, and companions, who, through daily acts of care, trust, and friendship, develop into ambassadors of compassion and leaders for social change. Programs That Make a Difference h Home-Based Professional Services. We support the Core Members who
live in our homes so they can lead happy, fulfilled lives. h Community Events & CONNEXIONS. An extended community of over
500 people, with and without disabilities, join us for monthly "large scale" Community Events and a variety of weekly common interest CONNEXIONS groups, both in-person and online.
h Advocacy. We work to amplify the voices of people with disabilities and join them as they advocate for the rights and dignity that all people deserve.
A Global CommunityL'Arche Atlanta launched its first house in 2012 in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur and is now one of over 150 global communities in the International Federation of L'Arche. L'Arche was founded in 1964 as a response to the mass institutionalization of people with developmental disabilities and has since spread to 38 countries. For over 50 years, L'Arche has brought about a revolution in the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities.

What's in a Name?The word L'Arche is French and rhymes with marsh. It means the ark or place of refuge — now the boat in the logo makes sense!
