The capital of Victoria is Melbourne, it was founded by John Batman, 1835.
Word that gold had been discovered in Victoria in 1851 – Sovereign Hill, Ballarat. The news travelled across the world quickly. This period in Victoria’s history was known as ‘The Gold Rush’.
