MESSAGE FROM THE SU VICE PRESIDENT
First of all, I would like to sincerely thank the
students of AIT for elecng me as your Vice Presi-
dent. I am humbled that you would place your faithand trust in me for this. This is a responsibility that I
do not take lightly, and I will endeavor to represent
you with the utmost transparency and boldness.
I would similarly like to thanks my competor and a
very good friend Sobia, who was so friendly and
easy during the elecon. There was never that feel-
ing of disregard between us or our campaigning
teams. For this, I would also like to thank the Elec-
on Commission which helped to create such afriendly environment during the enre elecon. I
would like to assure you that as you vice president,
with the SU Team, our rst and foremost aim
would be to be the bridge between your problems
and their soluons.
We would also aim at making your me at AIT
more pleasant and unforgeable through various
acvies that will bring the diverse students of AIT
together and contribute to fun-learning through
experience.

STUDENT RELATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING
Student Relaons Commiee (SRC) meeng for the January 2016
semester was held in Administraon building on 9th
February
2016 under the patronage of Ambassador of Pakistan H.E. Dr.
Sohail Khan. Represenng students of the campus, student union
team was present at this meeng. Several academic and non
academic issues and possible soluons for these issues were
discussed in this meeng.
STUDENT UNION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ELECTIONS
Connuing the democrac process at AIT, the Student Union elecon for the execuve commiee of August
2016 was held on 25th
February 2016 at Korea House. Two candidates, Mr. Raunak Thapa from Nepal and Miss
Sobia Asghar from Pakistan competed for the posion of vice president in the elecon. A huge voter turnout
was observed on the elecon day and a and a total of 854 votes were casted. Mr. Raunak Thapa won the
elecons with 505 votes. Miss Sobia Asghar received 337 votes. The Chief Elecon Commissioner and all the
volunteers worked hard and ensured that the elecon ran freely, fairly and without any problems. Mr. Raunak
Thapa will be serving as the Vice President of the Student Union this semester and as the President of the
Student Union during the August 2016 semester.

VALENTINES MASQUERADE
Valennes Masquerade organized by SU Film
and Entertainment Commiee was held on
13th February, 2016 from 8:00 PM onwards in
SU cafe. More than 300 AITians came to
experience the Masquerade party. The event
party started 8:45 PM DJ playing the songs
which were dedicated by the guest to their
loved one.
Aer the song dedicaons the program
formally started with the most awaited
compeon of the day “The Most Romanc
Couple 2016” with the parcipaon of 15
couples.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TRAINING
SU campus and Environment organized the “The Emergency
Response Training” on 13th
February 2016. The Purpose of the
event was to train the dorm representave for emergency re-
sponses such as Fireghng and also make the students aware ofthe hazard risks and how to overcome these risks. The rst ses-
sion was commenced by lecture on “Hazard Risks” by Dr.Indrajit
Pal (Assistant Professor, Disaster Preparedness, Migaon and
Management (DPMM) and in the second session, hands on training
experience on re exnguishers was carried out. This program was
useful to everyone and they were able to gain knowledge about
how to prepare themselves in case of emergency.
FIRST AID TRAINING
SU campus and Environment organized the “The Emergency
Medical Response Training” on 20th
February 2016. The purpose
of the training was to train the students with the basic rst aid in
case of emergency such leg injury, insect bites, snake bites, heart
aacks etc. The demonstraon of Cardiopulmonary resuscitaon
(CPR) was the highlight of this session. It is a lifesaving technique
useful in many emergencies, including heart aack or near
drowning, in which someone's breathing or heartbeat hasstopped was clearly demonstrated and volunteers took part
acvely and it was of great benet.

MATLAB WORKSHOP
SU Academics organized a workshop on MATLAB
(Matrix Laboratory) on 4th
and 5th
of March at Milton
Bender Auditorium. The objecve of this workshop was
to give students an exposure about MATLAB
programming and introducon of commands from
various toolboxes. Over 60 students took part in the
workshop in both days. Hopefully the parcipants will
be able to start with the project and can grow further.
SPSS WORKSHOP
SU Academic Aairs organized a workshop on Stascal
Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) on 8th
and 9th
of March at
Milton Bender Auditorium. Objecve of this workshop was to
help students to learn how to apply stascal tools in
research. This Workshop was designed for beginner level
parcipants to provide them an opportunity to learn SPSS.
However, seeing the acve parcipants and based on feed
back, we are planning to arrange advance level trainingsession for this package.

COLOURS OF LIFE | CULTURAL SHOW
The evening of 20th
February, 2016 saw the AIT
community immerse in the Colours of Life - The
Cultural Show. The event put up by the 40 dedicated
members of team Culture and Gender, was
inaugurated by Chief Guest Professor Dr. Sivanappan
Kumar and judged by 5 disnguished members of AIT
Administraon and Faculty. This me, there were
around 11 countries parcipang in 8 dierent
categories. In total, there were 42 events with around
200 parcipants from dierent countries, showcasing
variety of cultural talents found on campus. Myanmar
emerged as the overall Champion with the highest
points.

STUDENT UNION TV
Student Union Media commiee launched
YouTube live stream branded “Student Union
TV” with the live telecast of the Cultural Show.
Currently Final and Semi nal matches of Mini
Olympics are telecasted live through the SU TV.
CAREER TALKS
Maintaining good relaonship with companies is
essenal for placement. Career center in
collaboraon with SU External aairs organizes
career talk throughout the semester for the
students. Up to March 25th
, 2016, career center
organized four career talks with the parcipaon of
PPT Group, Schneider Electric. Thailand, Thai
Reinsurance PLC and Black & Veatch Thailand Co.
Ltd. In each career talk session companies
announced available opportunies for graduang
students as well as provided guideline on career
build up.

SU CAFÉ PARTY
SU Assets and Recreaon organized a Friday night
party on 8
th
March at SU Café. This party wasorganized just aer the exams were concluded to
help the AITians release the exam stress. The party
started around 8.00 AM and connued past 12.00
AM.
2ND
GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR JANUARY 2016 SEMESTER
The 2nd
General Assembly (GA) Meeng for the
January 2016 semester was held on 13th
March
2016 at Korea House from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM. As
the rst item of the day, Elecon commissioner of
January 2016 semester presented the report on
Student Union Execuve council elecons. Aer
that members of Student Union Execuve Council
for August 2016 semester took their oaths in front
of the GA members.
As the next item of the agenda, food commiee
report was presented by the food commiee
chairperson. In the second half of the meeng, the
representave students raised their issues and dis-
cussed with SU President. The meeng was then
adjourned with a group photo of all SU team
members along with the GA members.

SCAVENGER HUNT
Scavenger Hunt organized by Film and Entertainment Com-
miee, took place on the 13th
of March 1.30 pm onwards. 19
teams, each comprising of 4 members took part in the event.
This semesters scavenger hunt consisted of seven tasks which
tested the creavity, team work, physical capacity and general
knowledge of the parcipants. Out of the tasks adventure,
treasure hunt and sele challenge were considered as the most
challenging tasks. During this scavenger hunt, parcipants had
unique opportunity of playing golf to complete a task. The prize
distribuon ceremony was held at the SU Café. Winning teams
were awarded with cash prizes while consolaon prizes were
given to all the teams parcipated.

CAMPUS CLEANING WALK
SU Campus and Environment of January 2016 semester organized a
“Campus Cleaning Walk” on 19th
March 2016. The main move of the
program was to raise awareness about the cleanliness around the
place where everyone reside and also promote a beer environment,
beer tomorrow. The team mainly focused on the removal of plascs,
polythene, metal cans and any other types of objects that is
considered harmful to the environment. The walk was commenced
from Lawson 108, which was rst led by tree plantaon. Twenty trees
were planted in the campus and then the cleaning walk was started, it
included all the dorms areas such as standard dorms, category 3, 4, 5,
student villages 1, 2 and 3, Sta housings, cafeteria area and then the
walk ended in Lawson. The walk was for about two and half hours, and
ended up with a group photo. More than 80 parcipants took part
acvely in this event.

MEETING WITH NIDA
It is that semester where we get to represent AIT with
our very old good friends at NIDA on AIT-NIDA sports
day. NIDA will be hosng AIT on the 20th of August for
this 1 day event. Last year, AIT hosted NIDA and wasable to win the overall compeon and retained the
running trophy. The event will comprise of 7 sports
events: Badminton (Singles & Doubles), Table Tennis
(Singles & Doubles), Football (8 a side), Volleyball (Male
& Female), Men’s Basketball, Chairball and Tug of War.
Aer the sports events, performances from AIT & NIDA
students will take place, followed by dinner hosted by
NIDA Student’s Union.
ACOUSTIC NIGHT
SU Assets and Recreaon commiee organized
"ACOUSTIC NIGHT" musical evening on 26th
March 2016
at SU Café . The main purpose of the event was to
create a friendly plaorm among the musicians in AIT
and to allow them to showcase there talent in a party
atmosphere. The event commenced around 8.30 PM
and ve bands performed songs in dierent genre inthis event. Over 200 AITians came to witness the
musical talent in AIT and enjoy the acousc melodies.
The band performances were followed by the DJ night.

CAREER FAIR
Career Fair organized by Career Center in collaboraon
with the SU External Aairs commiee was held on 30th
March 2016 at AIT Conference Center. This semester’s
career fair saw parcipaon from over 30 dierent
companies oering internships and jobs for students
and new graduates. The fair was aended by a
considerable number of AIT students who had a chance
to speak to the companies in person and submit their
resumes to them directly. A series of career talks were
also organized in parallel to the career fair.
RESEACH EXHIBITION
SU Academic Aairs commiee organized a research
exhibion on 30th
March 2016 at AIT Conference Center.
This was held in parallel to the career fair. Several
students from SET, SERD and SOM presented their
research and projects at this exhibion. Out of the
research work presented, best research in each
category and the overall winner was selected by a panel
of judges.

MINI OLYMPICS
Mini Olympics of January 2016 semester organized and facilitated by
SU Sports Commiee was held from 10th
March to 1st
April 2016. A
total of 21 sporng events in dierent categories for both men and
women were held during this me. This me Dodgeball and Cane ball
were introduced to the Mini Olympics for the rst me. For the rst
me in Mini Olympics history, SU Media Commiee together with SU
Sports commiee live streamed nals and semi nals of several sports
on Student Union TV.
Sri Lanka emerged as the overall winners of Mini Olympics bagging the
most gold medals at this semester’s Mini Olympics. The winners are
due to receive their medals and trophies on 7th
April 2016 during the
Awards Night. A total of 21 coordinators and around 100 volunteers
helped relentlessly to make Mini Olympics for January 2016 semesteran overall success.
