JCAB Airspace Policy

On 30 July 1971, Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) F-86F during training flight collided midair with All Nippon Airways B727 en route IFR from Sapporo to Tokyo. All 162 on board the B727 perished.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the GOJ Cabinet announced airspace policy: Segregate military training areas from ATS routes Positive Control Area (class C airspace ) established around busy airports VFR corridor specified for military aircraft for crossing ATS routes Mandate JASDF to consult with MLIT for any change of training areas

High Altitude Training / Testing Areas for JSDF

Restricted Areas (JASDF and JMSDF)

Warning areas and Restricted Areas (USF)

Iwoto-island

Low Altitude Training / Testing Areas for JSDF

ATS routes are totally segregated from military training areas in accordance with the policy.
