Multi-Functional Unit for VEGA-C+ (MFU MKII)
• Design optimization
• Design to cost / Design for Manufacture
• Heritage, taking advantage of Ariane 5 ME’s ESU
development and synergies with Ariane 6’s CMFU
• Modularity: the MFU MKII will have a modular design,
that helps reducing non-recurring effort to tailor the unit
for each mission.
Main Drivers for the development
• Reduction of EEE parts cost extensive use of COTS
parts. Activity started with the ESU.
• Reduction of MAIT costs: automatic manufacturing and
testing.
• Continuous co-engineering with ELV in order to find the
best solutions considering also the integration and
exploitation phases
• Introduction of new functionalities, requested by the
market (Non-Explosive Actuators’ drivers, power lines
for Payloads…)

New Space Concept
Or …how to adapt our legacy products to the new step forward in the Space Industry
reaching the price and reliability targets in a very commercial & competitive scenario.
Four Axis actuations:
Coengineering with the customer: A close Technical Specification is an “old times
dream”, the collaboration in the extended enterprise phase allows a optimization of
the requirements at launcher level.
New EEE and Soldering technology: The validation of RoHS compliant parts
coming from automotive and other COTS markets for launchers reduces drastically
the recurrent price. This validation requires an important investment in parts analysis
and testing as well as the validation of their assemblies.
Automation of the Production Line: Incorporating new processes and
manufacturing technologies like the Automatic Optical Inspection, the 3D Soldering
Paste Inspection, Acrylic Coating and the Automatic Flying Probe for board testing.
Lean Production methodologies: Based in Pulsed Production Line.
