Airbus Helicopters and Chi-na’s Avicopter (the helicopters business unit of AVIC) signed a joint agreement for the pro-duction of 1,000 new- genera-tion EC175/AC352 rotorcraft, in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President François Hollande at the Elysée Palace in Paris. The agreement cements the indus-trial partnership between Air-bus Helicopters and AVIC on their jointly-developed EC175/AC352. While development work has been equally shared between Airbus Helicopters and Avicopter for the EC175/AC352 project, production is likewise shared, combining the capabilities of both companies. Coming from a com-mon platform, two different rotorcraft are being built: the AC352, assembled and supported from China by Avicopter, mainly for the Chinese market; and the EC175, assembled and supported by Airbus Helicopters from Marignane, France, for the worldwide market. The EC175, certified earlier this year by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). France and China launched their cooperation on EC175/AC352 in 2005, benefitting from 40 years of close ties between the partners on previous rotorcraft projects.

DVB Bank posts slightly lower con-solidated net income in 2013

DVB Bank, which is focused on internation-al transport finance, posted consolidated net income after taxes of €110.2m, down 11.8% year-on-year (2012: €124.9m). This decline was mainly due to a special effect which impacted on the previous year’s fig-ure: net other operating income/expenses for 2012 included a significant non-re-curring effect from the sale of a stake in aero engine specialist TES Holdings Ltd, Bridgend, Wales. This net item declined

Airbus Group makes successful return to Euro debt capital markets with €1bn 10-year bond issue

Airbus Group successfully priced a new 10-year bond offering denominated in euros on 25 March, 2014. This €1bn transaction is the first bond issue for the newly rebrand-ed “Airbus Group” and marks the return of the company to the euro debt capital markets after almost five years. The offering was very well received by the market and generated orders of around € 3.8bn, enabling the Group to benefit from the improved funding conditions currently available in the capital markets. The 2.375% coupon was the lowest ever for any of the Group’s bond issuances. Net proceeds from the issue will be used for general corporate purposes. The transaction followed a well attended pan European Roadshow in London, Frankfurt and Paris. The bond placement was made with around 230 qualified investors, mainly based in France, Germany and the UK. An application has been made for the bonds to be admitted for trading on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.

tent for the realization of highly automated and state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for composite landing gear parts at the NLR in Marknesse (NL). The facility is scheduled to be up and running in the third quarter of 2014 and will have a surface of around 500 m². About 20 Fokker specialists will work together with the NLR team. This state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will use, com-bine and further improve proven and avail-able manufacturing technology in support of FLG’s ambition to introduce its composite landing gear parts on new and existing land-ing gear designs and to ensure a reliable and repetitive manufacturing process, reducing component costs under metal equivalents. The facility will produce composite land-ing gear components for customers for the qualification and first production phase.

Lufthansa Cargo achieves operating profit of €77m in 2013

Lufthansa Cargo achieved an operating profit of €77m in the last financial year, €28m less than in the previous year. Numerous projects in the “Lufthansa Cargo 2020” future programme were vigorously pursued; fleet modernisation was successfully initi-ated. A significantly higher result is expected in 2014. Lufthansa Cargo chairman and CEO, Karl Ulrich Garnadt, em-phasised at the annual press conference in Frankfurt that the company is well on its way to consolidating and strength-ening its position as Europe’s leading cargo airline this year: “We have set ourselves am-bitious targets. We want to grow our tonnage by around five per cent and plan to sig-nificantly increase the operat-ing profit”, said Garnadt. The Cargo CEO, who will take over at the helm of Lufthansa Passage on May 1st, announced an operating result of €77m (2012: €105m) on presentation of the 2013 balance sheet. The airline will greatly benefit in 2014 from the now three Boeing 777 freighters to be deployed on North Atlantic routes and also to Shanghai from next week. With significantly lower fuel consumption, the brand new aircraft not only produce lower emissions but will also help reduce costs. Another Triple Seven will be delivered in June of this year. Because of the new arrivals, Lufthansa Cargo is planning to fly just 14 of its originally 18 MD-11 freighters.

Over the last 16 years ADSoftware has delivered industry-specific application to more than 50 companies spread over numerous segments such as commercial aircraft, ma-jor /national airlines, commuter/regional airlines, fixed based operators, helicopters operators, maintenance and repair organisations, flying school, and continuing air-worthiness management organisations. In the last six months, three new customers have signed with ADSoftware; all of them in three distinct market segments of the aviation industry; all of them requiring a clear understanding of the special character-istics of the client’s industry and tailored solutions to meet those requirements.

• Air Kbz, a privately owned domestic Burmese airline based in Yangon, selected Air-Pack fleet management system and logistics package by ADSoftware. The airline op-erates four ATR 72-500 and two ATR 72-600 aircrafts serving 15 destinations. AEPS, the exclusive distributor for ADSoftware in Middle East and Asia, will assure software delivery to specification and time scale while meeting agreed customer targets.

• Aerolys, which offers its services to aircraft owners and operators during the phases of delivery and return, chose ADSoftware while working on getting its Part M approval.

• Air et Compagnie, a French aircraft and helicopter flying school, is the latest com-pany to have signed with ADSoftware and the first flying school of the portfolio. “The missing link to our aviation activity was the EASA Part F for maintenance and Part G for continuing airworthiness, our workshop started operation in early 2014 with the French Civil Aviation Authorities approval. For the continuing airworthiness manage-ment and all operations of the workshop, a market study jointly run with our partner TimeToFly has led us to select several software, convergence towards ADSoftware was obvious, given the quality of the product and the professionalism of the teams,” said Charles Clair, Air et Compagnie’s CEO.

Finnair started employee consultations with personnel working in administrative and sup-port functions as well as cabin attendants. The measures are part of the savings program start-ed in 2011, which aims at breaking Finnair’s loss-making cycle. The company still hopes that by achieving cost reductions in ongoing negotiations the redundancies could largely be avoided . Finnair plans to rationalise its administration and support functions, which could lead to a reduction of approximately 140 employees at this stage. At the end of last year Finnair concluded new collective labour agreements in line with the Finnish Employ-ment and Growth Pact. At the same time, the parties agreed on cost reduction negotiations that would be concluded with cabin attend-ants by the end of April 2014 and with pilots by mid-June. When Finnair announced its loss-making results for 2013, the company stated that it must assess other options for reaching its targets, in case the necessary agreements on cost reductions are not reached through negotiations. Although the company’s prior-ity and preference is to reach agreement with personnel at the negotiation table, it is now obliged to draft optional plans to increase out-sourcing of flight crew.
