AIR POLLUTION
Pollution is the presence o introduction into the environment of
a substance that has harmful or poisonous effects on the
environment and events.
Air becomes polluted with noxious gases or when black carbon
particles are released into the air.
There are 3 main gases that cause air pollution:
- sulfur dioxide
-carbon monoxide
-nitrogen oxides
Sulfur dioxide occurs mainly when palm oil is burned in power
plants. This gas is also commonly found in smoke stacks.
Carbon monoxide is caused mainly by gasoline equipment, aircraft
and railroads.
Nitrogen oxide causes acid rain.This phenomenon may account for
18% of the worlds GLOBAL WARMING.
CAUSES: Smoke stacks of factories and powerplantsMotor vehicles,
cars, buses and aircraftsChemicals, fires and volcanoesFumes from
hairspray, paint spray and nuclear weapons
Did you know that nature creates its own pollution too?Volcanoes
spew ash into the atmosphere providing a stream of sulfur
dioxide.
Forest fires can create industrial smog and release carbon from
the trees into the atmosphere.
