VARIO – SEPARATION OF FINE DUST PARTICLES

THE TASK

Keller plans, engineers, and manufactures air pollution controlsystems for the capture, removal and separation of airborneparticles for all types of industry. High filtration efficiency isachieved with the use of innovative filtration technology andefficient design. Suitable exhaust systems offer solutions toindividual problems at high levels of quality.

The VARIO series is particularly suitable for the separation offine dust. Nearly all types of dust can be successfully separated, such as those created in metal processing, polymerprocessing, and in chemical, pharmaceutical and ceramic industries, as well as non-metallic minerals.

The VARIO units are modular construction in order to meetdifferent requirements, such as dust characteristics or thevolume of exhausted air. Sturdy and low-noise units allow forreliable 24-hr. operation with constant air flow. Short deliverytimes and competitive pricing are possible because of seriesproduction planning.

SCOPE OF APPLICATIONS

Machining processes: – lathing, drilling, milling, grinding– removing bulk waste– blending, fusing– measuring– manufacturingThermal processes: – laser cutting/etching– welding

ADVANTAGES– high-quality filter element

– compact construction

– large filter area

– low filter resistance

– integrated sound insulation

OPERATION

The dust-laden air flows through the dirty air inlet into the filter unit. A baffle plate slows down and deflects the dustparticles to protect the filter elements from direct impact. Anair down-flow is created between the filter elements, allowingthe dust particles to drop. A fan in the clean air chamberdraws the polluted air through the filter elements, depositingthe dust particles onto the filter surface. Because the filterelements are cleaned continuously by compressed air pulsesduring operation, the air flow remains constant. The cleanedair exits through the top of the unit and in most cases can bere-circulated into the work area or vented outdoors. The separated dust falls into the dust collector containers.

FILTER ELEMENTS

The SINBRAN filter elements, a combination of sintered polyethylene and laminated GORETM-membran, combine theadvantage of membrane filtration (low pressure loss with highfiltration efficiency) with a long-life rigid frame construction. These elements are reusable, have “BGIA” test certificationaccording to DIN EN 6035-2-69 Appendix AA (08/99) and meetthe requirements of dust class "M", formerly known as categories U, S, G and C. Alternative filter elements such ascartridge filters, multitube and Y-filters are also available.

CLEANING THE FILTER ELEMENTS

The pulse cleaning cycle can be adjusted for each applicationby means of an integrated control unit. The air flow of the fanremains nearly constant. The cleaning operation is activatedeither by a differential pressure regulator while in operation,or by a programmable downtime cleaning cycle.

WASTE DISPOSAL

The air-tight and dust-tight disposal bins are connected to thefilter's hopper with a clamping device, simplifying the exchange of dust collector containers.

The reusable bins can be directly discharged with the use of aclosed lid and clamping ring. For large dust quantities orduring 24-hour operation, continuous disposal is accomplishedby means of an air lock.

VENTING OUTDOORS OR RE-CIRCULATION

Air recirculation is often possible with the use of high-qualitySINBRAN filter elements. The cleaned air can be ducted andchanneled (even with heat exchangers) to the outdoors, or re-circulated back into the workplace. Alternate venting orrecirculation can be accomplished by activating a switch within the exhaust duct.

We will be pleased to furnish you with detailed informationregarding the feasibility of a recirculation system, ensuringcompliance with your local rules and regulations.

PLACEMENT

The VARIO filter unit is meant for indoor use, adjacent to thedevice to be exhausted. Outdoor installation is possible, provided certain protective measures are adopted.

SAFETY

The VARIO filter unit can be equipped with additional safetyprecautions when processing combustible or explosive dusts.

FAN SECTION

The direct-drive radial fan is very silent. Depending on thesize of the filter unit, the fan is either integrated, top-mountedor placed next to it.

The VARIO units are of modular construction in order to meetdifferent requirements, such as dust characteristics or thevolume of exhausted air. Sturdy and low-noise units allow forreliable 24-hr. operation with constant air flow. Short deliverytimes and competitive pricing are possible because of seriesproduction planning.
