Air BubblesThe Newsletter of the North Shore
Frogmen’s Club
February 2018
Volume 61, Number 2
Message from the
President:
Vinny Egizi
Hello Froggies,
Wow, February flew by and we are rapidly getting closer to the warm weather
(and warm water). For most of us this is the time to start our diving
preparations, and for other crazy “Cold Blooded Frogs” diving season has
never ended. I used to be one of those “Winter Wet Suit Divers”, but I realized
that since my original 10 year old wet suit was not keeping me warm in the
summer, it was definitely not suitable for winter diving. So after getting several
Undersea Diver Gift Certificates from my family and winning the office Super
Bowl Squares, I was able to get a new wet suit this month. I will be ready for
float cleaning (currently planned for some time in April…please stand by for
details).
As a club we have been very busy, and plan to be all year long. Besides
getting periodic emails from the officers, you can open the calendar located on
our Website directly at the following link. http://www.northshorefrogmen.com
/events_calendar.php and view, sync to your phone, or download this calendar
as you see fit. The key is to stay informed and join us.
Depending when this issue of Air Bubbles comes out, I hope you enjoy or
enjoyed the presentation by Peter Buzzacott on Diving Accidents and Sea
Rovers clinics, seminars, and film festival. We also look forward to the March
social events; St. Patrick’s day party and Mary and Ray’s house on March 17th
and the NSF Dinner at British Beer Company (BBC) on March 22nd.
Finally, I would like to extend a very Happy Birthday to long time, very active,
and handsome club member Jack Monro. Although he does not look a day
over 74.5 years old, he turned 75 in February.
Happy Diving!!!
Vinny Egizi
2018 NSF President

60th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION DINNER CRUISE
Save The Date – 25 August 2018
The 60th Anniversary Celebration Planning Committee (Ray, Susan, Linda, and
Bill) have been very busy planning a great event. The event will include a
display of memorabilia from our 60 years of history diving on the North Shore,
awards, and a chance to socialize and catch up with fellow divers and friends,,
all capped off by a dinner cruise in the Gloucester Harbor and surrounding
waters. Tickets and further details will be available as we get closer to the
event so please stay tuned.
Please note, Vinny also involved - he is behind the camera.
Ellen Garvey worked very hard to produce the video displayed at the banquet. The
video was a summation, in photos and videos, of the events the club and its
members participated in during 2017.
Please contact her if you would like a copy.

Member's Corner
DIVER OF THE MONTHFebruary
Daryl FindlayThe February Diver of the Month goes
to Daryl Findlay. Besides being our go-
to IT Guru, accepting an invitation to be
our eight BOD member, and doing
many behind the scenes activities for
the club, Daryl has been a very active
diver during the cold month of
February, even though you never see
his bubbles. In addition, Daryl has
volunteered to lead a dive with our
special guest speaker from DAN; Peter
Buzzacott. His dedication to the club
and to the activity of diving, makes
Daryl an easy nomination for this
month’s honor.
MEMBER OF THE MONTH
JanuaryRay Porter
The February Member of the Month
goes to Ray Porter. Ray has
embraced his role as Vice President,
in the way he has actively kept the
club agenda moving smoothly this
year. Ray is always one step ahead
when it comes to having weekly
raffle prizes available, generating
Sea Rover signup sheets, having
itemized action lists (with budgetary
numbers) for each activity we do,
and taking the lead in organizing the
60th Anniversary Celebration vent
committee tasks. In addition, Ray
has agreed to attend Mary’s St.
Patrick’s Day Party, being hosted at
his house…way to take one for the
team Ray!
Fun stuff we did last month
Club members were involved in a variety of activities in February
Actual Local Diving
Due to uncooperative weather, little local diving has taken place by Froggies.
Some members (Susan) have done warm water diving while traveling. For
details and info on great travel sites, catch up with our warm water travelers at
a meeting. Jim B, Daryl, Andrea, and Peter did manage to get out.

Dive Talk:
Susan went to Colombia for Christmas with her daughters. Several spots to
dive. Cartagena, in the north, warmer, safe. Diving Planet (5 star PADI
resort). Diving fairly far out because rough near shore. They have all the gear
at the island. Two dives during the day, one at night, then spend the night.
Susan chose the “eco-lodge”. Next day they hiked and kayaked.
New Year’s Day:
Jack dove wet, 6F, 31F in the water, to 31 feet, 22-24 min. Saw ice underwater,
on the ropes. Reg was free-flowing.
Daryl in water soon after Jack. Not bad going in, heated vest and heated
gloves (built his own). Did get his fin tangled in a rope. Pulled his flag down
(30+ feet). Saw nothing except ice. Water was clear. Getting out, his hands
started to freeze even with the heated gloves.
Other divers were Andrea Dec, Jim B, Daniel Anaya.

Old Business:
Planning meeting was held last weekend, good meeting, lots scheduled.
Need to start planning for Sea Rovers
60th Anniversary EVENT scheduled for August 25, dinner cruise. Ray
reviewed price options for different venues. We need to take vote tonight for
two expenditures to hold the spot on the Beauport Princess. Bill W. moved to
spend $250 for the deposit on the boat and $200 to hold a possible pre-boat
gathering space, with the expectation that the club would spend not more than
$3500 for the whole event. John M. seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Mention was made that we needed more notice to vote large sums ($3500) so
Vinny said he would send out that further notice for vote next week.
New Business:
Women Divers Hall of Fame day to be held this year on July 21. Proposal
made that the Club support this event by providing grill and meats with up to
$250, as it was a high profile event for our Club. Motion made by Bill W.,
seconded by Daryl F., and passed. We would welcome other clubs to help out.
Last year we stayed within this price limit and had food left over for VT, thanks
to help from John and Donna.
Dive Talk:
Sunday: Daryl with Jim B and Peter G at Old Garden. There is a tree in front of
the ramp, no beach, rocks to water like at Folly Cove. Daryl’s camera battery
was off, so had to trek back to the car to fix that. Has a new waterproof battery
for his heated gloves, 12 ft depth for most of the dive.
Raffles:
$$ box – John Marren
Mystery – Ray Porter
Bug Bag – Mary Howard
NSF Minutes – February 8, 2018
8:02PM to 8:18PM
Attendance: 19 total, 2 guests and 17 members including 3 officers
Old Business:
Funding for the 60th Anniversary Event on Beauport Princess. Deposit was
authorized last week. Planning for a pre-gathering in the nearby area, not
confirmed yet. It was suggested authorizing cap for further funding from the
Club be raised to $5000. We have enough $$, so no need to skimp. Ellen G.
moved to authorize funding for the event up to $5000 with the provision that it
would be okay to use this to reduce ticket price (to $50 pp for early ticket
purchase), Susan C. seconded the motion, and it carried.
We received word that Whitney/Undersea Divers has decided to have their own
booth at Sea Rovers.
Announcements: Jack Boudreau, diver, died in Bonaire. No details.
Dive Talk:
Al Morris went to Cozumel, for $1720, flight, week stay, food liquor and 10
dives. It was lovely.
PRESENTATION by Ellen & Mike Garvey on their dive trip to AMBON with
