FROM THE PRESIDENT As we head towards this year's Annual General meeting, I wish to congratulate our positive thinking Executive members for their innovative ideas and contribution through the year that has been, and I wish them well for the future. It has been a challenging yet rewarding past 12 months and further careful positive governance will be required as we creep into an ever changing unstable future for clubs in New Zealand. I have enjoyed my tenure as your president and look forward to the fruition of the initiatives we have set in motion. I will be standing for another term and thank you all on behalf of the committee for your support in the last 12 months. Enjoy our club. Derek Williams

Vietnam War and Malayan Emergency Commemoration Memorial Service

Sunday 23rd September 2018 at 11.00 am— Mount Maunganui RSA Clubrooms. Keynote Speaker: Peter Sullivan—Ex Platoon Commander, Vietnam. To be followed by refreshments prepared and served by the Mount RSA Women’s Section.

WOMEN’S SECTION Well ladies it is that time of the year again. The main club’s AGM is on the 16th Septem-ber, show your interest and come into the club and exercise your vote, it is no good saying later (I would have liked so and so to have got in if you haven't voted). This month we have Ray Solomon as entertainment so come along and enjoy the day. Hopefully the weather will start to pick up now and it will be better for coming out. This is a short newslet-ter, I hope those who have not been well are feeling better and we see you soon. Keiran

ANZAC COMMEMORATION RUGBY JERSEY A Thank You to the Patron-Life Member Terry Hurdle and the Mount Maunganui Rugby Club for donating a framed ANZAC Commemoration Team jersey, designed and made especially for this year’s ANZAC Tournament. The classic jersey which features the Mount RSA Cenotaph, was worn by the Team when they played Tauranga rugby club. Before the start of the Annual Tournament, Arthur King and Peter Moss with bugler Brian Geoghan recited the Ode, played the Last Post and Reveille. The impressive jersey now hangs proudly in the RSA Clubroom’s. Lest we forget.

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED We are looking for volunteers to drive the Welfare Bus. If you are interested, please contact Peter Moss at the RSA Office.

We have a bumper edition for September. Firstly this year's AGM is scheduled for Sunday, September 16th, we have some Officers to elect before then. Voting will open on Tuesday 4th September and close on Friday 14th September, 7pm. Your vote is important and every financial member can vote. The candidate profiles will be on the board in the Clubrooms for you to view. We will be holding on the 23rd September, a memorial service in remembrance of the Vietnam War and Malayan Emergency. The service will be held in the Clubrooms at 11am. The popular 'Open Jam Session' is scheduled for Saturday 15th September 1-5pm .

RUGBY: Once again we will be showing all the All Blacks home Test matches on the big screen (no entertainment on these nights): September 8th vs Argentina, September 15th vs South Africa—games start at 7.30pm . We are also showing the Argentina Test live on the Sunday 30th at 11.40am, and are planning on serving a light lunch at half time. Everyone is welcome.

Munro's, we have introduced a 'Back to Basics' dinner menu on Monday to Thursday. This 2 course menu will run alongside the main dinner menu as an alternative, and is particularly designed for our senior diners. This menu will have a selection of old favourites and a sweet for only $19.00 for members and Gold Card holders. The Friday & Saturday dinner service has also undergone a facelift. We are promoting a menu with self service access to the buffet for vegetables and salad. The price also includes the dessert buffet. We have already received many positive responses from diners. For lunches we have a special 'Golden Oldies' menu for groups of 10 or more people priced at $15 per person for two courses. This menu runs along side the normal lunch menu. We also have a Golden Oldies lunch and concert show (entertainment presented by Mt Maunganui College performing arts students) scheduled for September 18th. Bookings are essential and minimum groups of 8 where possible. For more information please contact the office . I wish you all a great month ahead, thanks - Andrew Buenter, RSA Manager.

CHESS CLUB

In our late evening program our end of year Championship finals see Bob Smith, Noel Pinic and Kirill Polishchuk as the main contenders. Our casual group tournament running along-side this means that players can come and go as they please. We're so pleased that generally players are quick to figure so much out, with little help needed on understanding what is needed to be understood. In our early program our current main Term event is underway. Our basic optional teach-ing focuses on helping those starting out to enhance their chess. As always in our unique casual group of players, any player can come and go as they please.
