Northrop Grumman, for over thirty years a

leading supplier of avionics equipment forcommercial aviation, is pleased tointroduce a new technology that addressesthe GPS integrity problem: AIMEtechnology. AIME(Autonomous IntegrityMonitored Extrapolation), integrated withInertial Reference Systems (IRS), can

provide sole means of navigation forcommercial aircraft. AIMEis integratedinto our LTN-101 Global Navigation AirData Inertial Reference System (GNADIRS)and certified for use on the air bus familyof aircraft. This certification means reliablenavigation anywhere in the world enroute, terminal and nonprecision approach

without ground-based radio aids orpredictive programs.

    AIMEtechnology compensates for the

inherent deficiencies of GPS by integratingGPS and IRS in a unique, patentedalgorithm. AIMEcontinuously analyzesavailable satellite and inertial signals. If thedatas integrity is compromised, AIMEautomatically uses the aircrafts positionhistory to maintain accuracy and integrity.On-board predictive Receiver AutonomousIntegrity Monitoring (RAIM) programs arenot required.

    AIME

technology will allow aircraftoperators to reduce costs through theremoval of other navigation systems fromthe aircraft (as approved by certificationauthorities) including VOR, DME, ADF, andLORAN. Further savings will be realizedthrough improved operational proceduresboth enroute and in nonprecision and

    precision approaches.

AIMEtechnology willallow aircraft operatorsto reduce costs throughthe removal of othernavigation systemsfrom the aircraft.

Realizing the Promise of GPSEssential to the success of AIMEtechnology is the ability to detect andexclude questionable data, which resultsin high integrity and availability. Extensive

flight tests and simulations haveestablished the superiority of AIMEinsolving GPS integrity problems over other

augmentation schemes, particularlycompared to the main alternative, RAIM.

As the charts below show, this superiority isdue to its consistently higher levels ofavailability. Unlike RAIM, AIMEsoftware

provides 24 hour operational benefits andneeds no augmentation.
