DESCRIPTION: Subsequent to submitting its 2018 CPIP, Aiken Technical College was approached by a community member in October 2017 with an offer to accept approximately 20 acres of undeveloped land adjacent to its current campus footprint. The College was eager to pursue accepting the donation of land due to the location, valuation, and future campus planning. In the short term, the land will serve as a buffer for incompatible development and in the future as a site for expansion. Year 4 of the 2018 CPIP includes one project to construct an access road through campus, which if approved, could benefit from the land donation.
One potential environmental concern, silvicultural chemicals, was identified during the site assessment but the use is not considered a Recognized Environmental Condition (REC) at this time. No evidence of RECs, controlled recognized environmental conditions (CREC), or historical recognized environmental conditions (HREC) were revealed in connection with the property.
The College estimates it will incur $2,700 in costs associated with this donation for the Environmental study and closing costs. Support letters acknowledging the removal of the property from the County’s tax rolls were received from the County of Aiken and Aiken County School District. The market value of the land is approximately $200,000.

I understand you have an opportunity to acquire twenty acres of property immediately adjacent to the campus. This property can be used to expand the College and allow you to continue to grow to meet the needs of Aiken County and the surrounding area for years to come. Aiken County supports this acquisition and we look forward to future growth opportunities for the College.
