Certification Assessment-Based Certificate
Purpose is assessment Purpose is development
Assessment measures knowledge, skills, or capability against predetermines standards
Assessment measures retention of learning objectives
Assessment is independent of course of study
Assessment is based on course of study
Scopes is based on the results of a job task or cognitive analysis
Scope is limited to curriculum
It is time limited; required recertification
It is not time limited. When the content is outdated, usually a new certificate is required
Generally requires a commitment to a code of ethics
Has no ethics requirement
Typically professional experience is required
Experience is not always required.
