Our teams are led by experienced engineers and consultants. They areregistered Low Carbon Consultants and Energy assessors with CIBSE.

What we Do

Sustainable Design Advice
Involving our sustainable design consultants at the very earliest stage in thedesign process can help ensure that our team can mitigate wherever possiblethe use of active Building Engineering Solutions in pursuit of the correctinternal environments. Our team utilise dynamic thermal modelling toaccurately simulate a buildings energy use and carbon emissions. With thistool our consultants can change the building easily, working with the wholedesign team to see what effect a change in construction may have to thecarbon emissions and the internal environmental conditions.

Our Services
Energy StatementsOur low carbon consultants can undertake a feasibility study to allow theteam to understand any viable low energy solutions, to understand the prosand cons, and to give the client an understanding of costs, both in terms ofcapital and in the future. This study will consider the energy demand of thedevelopment, review the low and zero carbon technologies appropriate tothe specific site or development, provide a cost review including life cycleanalysis of solutions or proposals and provide information to understandlocal planning requirements. We can carry out a detailed review of carbonsavings and provide information on availability of grants or wider incentives.
Energy statements, or energy strategy reports, are a requirement forplanning in an increasing number of authorities in London and in the UK. Thisreport is submitted as part of the planning application to demonstrate thecarbon reduction that will be achieved in your development.

Sustainability Statements
The Sustainability Statement forms a crucial part of any planning application. With the right approach, a wellwritten sustainability statement can ensure a smooth and successful passage through to approval. This report maytake several guises depending on where you are building. Planners may use different terminology like 'EnergyStatement', 'Sustainable Design and Construction Checklist' or similar.
Whatever the term, the aim of the report is to demonstrate how the developer will address specific local objectivesfrom CO2 emissions and renewable energy targets to environmental issues. This may be achieved with betterperforming fabric, efficient services, renewable technologies and consideration of wider environmental factorsonsite.
The statement will generally be prepared at pre-planning stage and accompany your application.
It is important to note that planning departments have very different policies - from 'London Plan' guidelines torenewable energy targets set by local councils.
The Sustainability statement report will demonstrate how a scheme will address core policies around sustainability,as set by your local authority. We will determine the rules and guidance in a number of ways:
1. View the local authority policy documents online2. Request pre-planning advice or a 'pre-app' meeting3. Speak directly to your sustainability officer, if one exists
If information is hard to come by, and we are not already familiar with your local requirements we are very happy tospeak to your planners to ensure that they will receive what they need. This also ensures that you get an accurateidea of costs and timescales.

Natural Ventilation Strategy
Utilising dynamic thermal modelling enables AIG to see howyour building will work before its even built!
We use thermal modelling to test if the proposed buildingform and construction will enable natural ventilation to beutilised. We can include the appropriate internal heat gainsfrom people, lighting and equipment for your building typeand test different types of openings to see if thermalcomfort can be maintained. If overheating does occur wecan assess alternative construction materials, shadingdevices, opening strategies and even management optionsto improve the comfort levels in the building.
Using thermal modelling software enables us to evaluatethe design of natural ventilation, seeing if singled sided,cross or stack ventilation is the most appropriate solution,demonstrating the ventilation rates achieved in each space.We work hard to make a building design work for its futureoccupants and for our clients, developing practical, cost-effective solutions to achieve successful passive design.

BREEAM, HQM, Well & Code for Sustainable Homes Assessments
Our Sustainability Consultants are accredited BREEAM, Home Quality Mark, Well Standards and Code forSustainable Homes Assessors with many years' experience achieving tough targets on challenging projects. OurAssessors lead project teams through the assessments, providing in-depth guidance on how to design in creditscoring features to achieve credits and aim to simplify the process for all involved. The earlier we can be involved ina project, the more successful the assessment is and this also minimises the financial burden of achieving anassessment.
Our experienced BREEAM Assessors cover all sectors and are also BREEAM Accredited Professionals (AP) whichdemonstrates their professional specialism in sustainability and environmental design and gains you an extra 3credits if they are appointed sufficiently early in an assessment.

Energy Survey
To assist our clients in understanding where they can make carbon savings byimproving site management and or investment in the refurbishment orreplacement of central plant or upgrading of fabric. Payback periods might beexpressed as either carbon or monetary savings.
Part L & EPC calculations
AIG understands the challenges of making your building comply with the latestbuilding regulations. Our consultants can assist you with this by providingdesign targets at the outset of a project and undertaking initial calculationsearly in the design process to determine the optimum combination of efficientbuilding fabric, services and if required low and zero carbon technologies. Weare always keen to provide cost effective compliance methods that work foryour building.
Our energy assessors can produce Part L & EPC compliance calculations forsubmission to building control for both domestic and non-domestic buildings.These might have been requested as part of your building regulationssubmission and referred to as SAP Calculations (Domestic) or SBEMCalculations (Non Domestic).

Daylight, Right to Light & Overshadowing
Local planning authorities often require calculations todemonstrate that the proposed building will not affectneighbouring properties and that the layouts will provide goodlevels of daylight for the occupants. We can demonstrate thisusing the award winning IES Virtual Environment software.
We can provide detailed overshadowing studies, assess thesunlight availability using VSC and Sky Factors of existing andproposed developments to determine Right to Light complianceand provide internal average daylight factor and uniformity ratiocalculations.
These studies can be used as part of a planning submission and/orthe Daylight and Uniformity Ratio calculations can be used asevidence for BREEAM and Code for Sustainable HomesAssessments.
