Language Ghana host a number of languages with each region characterized by

one of the main languages thus ga, twi, ewe, fante, guan , Hausa.

English is the official language of Ghana and AIESEC but is common to

hear people speak what is known in Ghana as broken English or

pidgin.( English without grammar and spelling checks).

It is required that at least you should be able to speak basic english

and we encourage everyone to speak english in the house so that

everyone can understand each other and there is harmony.

TRANSPORT The most popular and cheapest way of transport is by “TROTRO”- a minivan with

yellow number plate that run from one town to the next. The buses might look

intimidating but they would surely get you to your destination.

Always know where you want to go and tell the mate (conductor) or driver and

they are sure to get you there.

There are also taxis (cab) which are quite expensive but a comfortable way to

travel.

Whenever you are lost just ask any one you meet. They would show how to get

home. …Remember All Commercial Vehicles Have Yellow Number Plates…

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU EXPECTING

The intern house is located in the Madina estate, Akosombo junction about 15 minutes’ drive from the

airport.

The house has electricity, internet and water is supplied on regular basis. The is no hot water taps (you

would have to heat water with a kettle). There is no pool in the house (there is a pool about 15 minutes

away on the university campus). The house has four rooms which accommodates about four people per

room.

The rooms have beds and mattress is provided. There are lockers in some rooms but we advise you can

along with a padlock for all your bags.

The is a toilet and a bathroom (no shower take bath from a bucket)

There is a kitchen with a fridge and gas stove. (Everyone is expected to wash their plates after eating

Laundry is done on by hand in a bucket of water with soap and washing powder, then dried outside.

There is a laundry down the street for those who cannot wash with their hands but this would cost you

a few cedi.

The Accra mall is about 10 minutes away and the Marina mall about 15 minutes away from the house.

There are supermarket in the neighborhood. There are food vendors around and snack shops all

around. There is the Madina estate local market which is about 5 minutes’ walk from the house and the

main Madina local market which is about 15 minutes’ walk from the house.(cooking stuff can be bought

here at cheaper prices).

There is house clean up moments and for hangout and parties every one contributes for drinks and other

eatables.

The main gate of the house is close by 10 pm to ensure safety.

Trips are organized to visit tourist sites but then you would have to bear the cost of your own

transportation and gate fee
