game. The one element he has found to be lacking in dance was the presence of strong male vocalists. “A lot of DJs are simply not open to playing male artists on their dance floors. I think it’s time that has changed!”. “I want to be a part of the movement to bring more guys to the floor.” I aim to inspire people to look closer at their lives”…“Oh, and I also hope they’ll dance their asses off.” And he certainly has. The Junior Vasquez remix of Aiden’s “Love to Hate You”, a remake of the Erasure hit, ignited floors around the world and introduced Aiden Leslie as a formidable talent. As a songwriter, Leslie is known for using his songs as personal diaries. “Worlds Away” is a song about life’s journey, dealing with the unexpected death of his older sister and examines how people face struggle and the inevitability of change. It also reflects on the aftermath of struggle, reaching the light at the end of the tunnel and the realization of growth from adversity. “Trying to Leave Now” looks at leaving love while the feelings are still strong, knowing it is not right for you. And his latest confession, “Diamond Dreams” is about his own personal story of coming to NYC six days after high school graduation, navigating his way and making his mark on the NYC club scene, growing from a boy to a man and seeking out his dreams of being the performer he is today.“I’ve learned that in life there are hills to climb,” he says. “It’s how you manage the fall down and the climb up from the hills that is key.”“Life is bittersweet. We all have a purpose to find. I am grateful to have found my purpose in music. Being given a second chance to share it with the world is a gift.”

“My ultimate mission as a performer is to share my story and experiences,” says pop artist Aiden Leslie who recently returned to the music scene in 2011 with the mega-hit “Worlds Away”. The track jumped to the #1 position on Masterbeat, #1 on Logo-TV’s Click List for a record 4-week reign, and immediately was added in rotation on MTV and VH1. His follow-up to “World’s Away”, the pop anthem “Trying to Leave Now” charted #1 on several pop/dance charts across the globe. Most recently, he released his new single “Diamond Dreams” along with a highly stylized, high-end, energetic new music video directed by NYC famed fashion photographer, Marco Ovando. While busy touring the United States in dance clubs and festivals from Miami, Montreal, to Washington D.C. and New York City, it has been common to find Aiden gracing the covers of magazines and being featured in national and international publications such as The Huffington Post, Instinct and DNA Magazine. Staking claim as a new force in pop music’s mostly female dominated industry, Aiden is changing the

Asbury Park’s pride this past summer.

Being a performer has impacted his partying lifestyle. “For me, it’s about

the work and what I can bring to my show. I have to stay disciplined or I will not be at my best for the people that come to see me.”

He’s also given up the drugs. “I have partied in the past. To each his own, I say. But for me, at this point in my life, it’s not something that I do anymore.”

He hasn’t lost his love of DJs though. Today he follows David Guetta for his European and pop music reach, Armin Van Buuren for his Trance influence, DJ Paulo for the Tribal beats and DJ Abel for the journey.

Aiden’s touring gigs have also opened his eyes to the spectacular events going on outside of the

big cities. “It’s refreshing to travel to the smaller towns because there is an authenticity that is isn’t necessarily there when you play the bigger markets. I love finding that the pace doesn’t always slow down in the smaller communities. They know how to party in the burbs!”

Aiden recounts another advantage of the smaller communities: finding love. (It seems to always come back to love with Aiden Leslie).

“Love, for anyone, isn’t easy. But, I will say that if you live in a large city like New York or Los Angeles, finding love can be harder.

“There is so much to choose from that many gay men think something better may come along. In effect, the fear cancels a lot of the possibility. Also, many gay men are so accustomed to materialism and the exterior that it’s hard to see past what is beyond the muscles.”

Hit Maker’s South Florida Debut Aiden Leslie Performs The Manor By Chris Hutchinson

After a two-year self-imposed hiatus from music, out artist Aiden Leslie is back with two new songs, “Worlds Away” and “Trying to Leave Now”. He makes his South Florida debut performing both at The Manor on Christmas Eve. “Worlds Away is a song about life’s journey,” explains Aiden, who describes his sound as Hip-Pop with a strong dance influence. The song was released in April and climbed to #1 on LOGO’s Click List, where it remained for four weeks. He wrote it after the death of his sister. “She was my only sibling,” he recounts.

“Over these past two years, I’ve learned that there are hills to climb in life. It’s how we manage the fall and rise from those hills that’s key to growing.” His newest release, “Trying to Leave Now”, is about salvaging what is right in a relationship before losing everything. ”I wrote Trying to Leave Now about a person in my life I always had deep feelings for. We eventually came together but at the wrong time.” Leslie says he was forced to battle trying to leave while the feelings were still strong and alive. “If love isn’t working, it’s important to be honest with yourself and to find the courage to say what you feel to the other person, and understand that sometimes, leaving is the only option.”

He’s excited to make his Ft Lauderdale debut. “I have had so much support from fans in South Florida. I can’t wait to meet everyone!”He will spend the Christmas holiday in South Beach. “What a whirlwind of a year it has been, traveling around the country. I feel really blessed,” he says. As far as a New Years resolution, he doesn’t have one. “I don’t believe in resolutions. I do what I can to better myself all year round.”

What was the inspiration behind Dia-mond Dreams?

I wanted to share my story of coming to New York City six days after high school graduation and how it has lead me to where I am today. It’s about growing from a boy to a man and finding my way through what I call “the electronic maze”.

What drives you most – fear of failure or thirst for success?

Neither. I’m not afraid of failing. I’m afraid of not having made the effort.

What is the hardest lesson you have learned in your quest to make your dreams come true?

In order to get what you want out of life, you must be extremely focused and believe that you have something to offer, even when you’re told that you do not. You must have a thick skin and not take what others think about you or your art per-sonally. You must love it first and chances are that it will resonate. It’s not an easy lesson to master, but a vital one to continue to move forward.

Is it true what they say about NY – that if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere?

Yes, if you learn how to make New York work, you can take those lessons anywhere.

Is that why your music video takes place in NYC?

Absolutely. New York is a huge part of my story and what much of Diamond Dreams symbolizes.

The video was directed by Marco Ovando, yet it’s very different than his videos with Cazwell and Amanda Lepore.

The intention was to offer a highly stylized, en-ergetic, performance video around my story. Like any artist, Marco has many sides. His viewpoint is diverse and inspiring.

What is the secret to making dreams a reality?

Belief.

Most of your other songs have been about your quest for love. Have you found your Mr. Right yet?

(Laughing) I’m still single, but I have my eyes open. I do believe he will come when he’s meant to.

How’s life? Life has never been better. I often think back to

when I was only dreaming of what I’m doing now. What else could I ask for?

RUNAWAYDREAMS

Aiden Leslie blasted on to the pop charts early last year with “Worlds Away”. It climbed to the top spot on Masterbeat and Logo, where it remained for four weeks. He then released “Trying to Leave Now”, a

song he wrote about a relationship he was forced to leave despite what he felt in his heart.

In Diamond Dreams - his new single that ter-rifically blends rock, pop, dance and elec-tronica - Leslie once again bares his soul through song. The track releases world-wide on this month.

BY SAMUEL WATSON

Aiden Leslie’s “Trying to LeaveNow” is about salvaging what isright in a relationship beforelosing everything. Penned bythe artist, the single is thefollow-up to “World’s Away,” hissong that nabbed the top spot onLogo’s “Click List” countdownshow for four consecutive weekslast summer.

“I wrote ‘Trying to Leave Now’about a person in my life I havealways had deep feelings for,” saysthe artist, who is openly gay. “Weeventually came together but atthe wrong time in both our lives, making (a relationship)impossible to pursue.”

Leslie says he battled with tryingto leave the guy while his feelingsfor him were still very strong andvery much alive. According toLeslie, it’s important for would-belovers and lovers in general tounderstand that, sometimes, leaving is the only option.

“At some point, you have tolet go to see where it ends upon its own.”

“The same holds true withlife,” he says. Backing up his pointand his music, Leslie encouragesfans to embrace the truth, even ifdoing so means having to partways with the one you love.

Samuel Watson for San DiegoLGBT Weekly: What do you lookfor in a partner? Aiden Leslie: At this point in mylife, it’s attractive to me if I knowthat the person has lived a little. Iwant someone that has beenaround the block a few times, butis now looking for somethingmore rooted. Also, they need tohave a belief in something biggerthan themselves. I’m lookingfor someone who has dreamsand wants to fulfill them, nomatter what.

“Trying to Leave Now” is about aperson you loved but at thewrong time in your life. What doyou mean by that?

It simply came down to timing. It wasn’t the time for us to pursueanything more than what italready had been.

Is there a right time for love? I don’t think it’s about right or

wrong, it just happens. That is thebeauty of love. But I do thinkthat circumstances in one’s lifedefinitely can influence thedirection it should orshouldn’t take.

Where were you going that hewasn’t willing to follow?

We wanted different things. Our needs didn’t match. I had toleave and choose another way formyself, even though the feelingswere still there.

Would you follow your true lovewherever he went?

I would like to believe that Iwould find a way to make it workand that he would do the samefor me. As I get older, I amstarting to see that you mustfollow your heart. If you don’t,you’ll likely pay a hard price.

“World’s Away” was a breakouthit. Do you expect “Trying toLeave Now” will be as successful?

When I finish a project, Ialways ask myself one question:Am I satisfied with what I havedone? If I am not, then I wouldnever put it out for the worldto see. I try not to approachanything in the sense of itssuccess or failure. In mymind, the simple fact that I

did it and I am proud of it meansit is successful. I try and leave offany expectations.

What is “World’s Away” about? The core of “World’s Away” is

about life’s journey and thestruggles we all go through. It’sabout realizing where you havebeen, taking what you havelearned and letting it go.

Are all your songs so deep andpersonal?

Always. For me, sharing myexperiences through music helpsme grow personally andartistically. Hopefully, the rawtruth resonates with the listenerand they take away somethingfrom it as well.

As an out gay man, have youwritten about your coming outexperience?

I have never written specificallyabout coming out, but I havewritten about my life experiences, being a gay man in today’s world.

Would you agree that ‘it getsbetter’?

Yes, without a doubt, but, Iwill also say that it comesdown to choosing it to be betterfor yourself.

Are you in a good place in yourlife today?

I’m probably in the best place Ihave ever been in my life. It’slargely because I have re-connected to my passion. I’msingle right now, but I amdefinitely looking forward tosharing my life with someone. Somuch in my past has been aboutsettling, but at this point in mylife, I won’t do that. My careerconsumes much of my time. It’smy priority and will continue tobe, but I also want to strike abalance between my career andpersonal life.

What was it like shooting themusic video for “Trying toLeave Now?”

Shooting a music video isalways a big undertaking. I amone hundred percent involved inevery step of the way fromconcept to the final moment ofediting. It’s always important tohave support along the way.Working with my creativedirector, Robert Vasquez, and therest of my artistic team was aproductive learning experience forme. We raised the bar in terms ofproduction from the last video. Can’t wait to do the next one.

What do you want fans to comeaway with from the video?

“Trying to Leave Now” is ananthem. My goal whenanyone listens or watchesanything that I do is that theysee the journey in all that weare and experience. It also payshomage to my love affair withNYC, so it’s a reflection of myhome and my life.

Are you working on new songs? I’m always working on new

material.

When do you expect you willrelease your new album?

Right now, it looks like a newsingle will be releasing early inthe new year.

Underneath the muscles andpretty face, who is Aiden Leslie?

Just like everyone else, he’ssomeone longing to be heardand ultimately seeking to findhis own way.

“Trying to Leave Now” is Aiden Leslie’s follow-up to “Worlds Away”, his chart-topping debut that remained #1 on LOGO’s Click List countdown show for four weeks.

“I learned from ‘World’s Away’ that everything is a stepping stone,” says Aiden Leslie from his Manhattan apartment. “One thing leads to another and it’s important to give full energy to each moment in order to propel that moment as far as you can.”

He was 14 years old, living in Cincinnati, Ohio when, with the help of a fake ID, Aiden walked into his first gay bar, The Dock. “I remember being in awe of everything, but at the same time feeling very much at home.”

He danced on a box alone for hours and left drenched in sweat.

It wasn’t long after that he began following DJs around the world to hear them play. “I would fly to New York to hear Danny Tenaglia spin at The Tunnel. I loved his underground beats.”

He also loved techno and admits he didn’t quite get the

Nightlife :: SpecialeventsAiden Leslie :: Back For More!by JC AlvarezSunday Sep 18, 2011

Aspiring pop-music idol Aiden Leslie is on a winningtrajectory all of his own design and continuouslystriving to inspire the music scene. A new sound anda sincere and dedicated approach to his craft is givingAiden an edge in the industry and the valuableexperience to perfect his road to success...this time.

He had navigated through a series of stops andstarts. In the 90’s Aiden transplanted himself intoNew York nightlife and club culture, carving a nichefor himself in the underground scene and immersinghimself in the raving club sound of DJ greats whocommanded the thriving, trendy big-room clubs.

Soaking up the very prevalent beats on the nocturnalclub circuit, Aiden listened and learned as the trendsshifted in dance to pop, to R&B and trip-hop, thenback again to a unique fusion of sounds thatforcefully blended all the genres into one, suitablyappealing to today’s ADD-riddled muscle boyaudience.

Reinventing himself, he returned to music aftertaking some time off with the largely successful"Worlds Away". Released in February it would prove ahuge departure from his premiere recordings.

"Before it was all about trying to find my way -- I was in a different place," Aiden admits. "I’m muchmore connected to what I want to say. Things are a lot clearer. It’s a rebirth -- and I’m back in thegame." To his credit, the last time Aiden marked his territory in the club was with the remake of theErasure Euro-dance classic "Love to Hate You" remixed by Junior Vasquez himself. Not tooshabby.

Worlds Away...

But it didn’t feel right, and Aiden slipped away toreconstruct his creative evolution more to his liking."The challenge is enjoying the process. You have tostay in the moment -- be present," he says. "I’mdoing this because I love it."

Tuesday, September 20 he launches his next single.Like any good marketer, he values the luxury ofperforming live for his audience -- putting the musicout there. Aiden relishes the opportunity to celebratethe release of "Trying To Leave Now" with a premiereevent at Industry Bar in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. "Themusic is my soul -- I’m not trying to put out amessage. I’m just thinking about what is coming fromme."

On Tuesday night Industry Bar will host the worldpremiere of the video for "Trying To Leave Now"coupling the event with the release of the remixalbum. "Everybody knows Industry Bar," Aiden saysof the Hell’s Kitchen mainstay that rarely has a slownight. "Industry is the perfect venue -- it’s the perfectfit for me."

The video for "Trying To Leave Now" highlights theevening and will give insight into Aiden Leslie’s

creative process. It is also stylistic and focused on delivering an image; a potent and very necessaryingredient in the relevancy of today’s pop-music. "Well that’s definitely a part of me -- the videoshows my ’real life’, and the ’performance’ part of me, which is part of this whole journey." It is alsounmistakable well paired with its predecessor. "’Worlds Away’ was a [re]introduction -- this is thenext color. It’s the next story."

Aiden Leslie goes mainstream. (Source:JosephSmileuske)

This New Journey

Although his attention is dedicated to the launch ofthis new track, Aiden is steadfastly involved on hisnext single. "I’d like to produce music quicker," headmits with a grin, "but this is the pace at which I’mgoing." The track should be out before the end of theyear and a full-length album is well taking shape.

"There’s always one thread," Aiden says, "and for meit’s all about sticking to the journey." Inspired by thisrevitalization, he is confident that finally he is on theright path. "Everyone has a core that they speakfrom. For me it’s about: Where have we been? --Where did we go? -- Where are we going in thefuture?" If his current success is any indication, thenthe only way is up the charts.

Even though the pop world has proven (especially most recently) it’s a female-dominated market,Aiden doesn’t feel the pressure to have to overextend himself to have to compete with the trend."It’s not that hard for a man to break into pop." Aiden cites the success of Justin Timberlake forinstance, who has proven that there is an appetite for male artists on the music charts.

But for gay artist who are trying to go mainstream it is a bit of a challenge. "Gay men tend tocelebrate ’the divas’. Gay boys will put the divas up there, before their gay male pop stars," he saysand goes on to add with a wink: "Gay boys want to be the divas." Like any well-informed musician,he’s always been inspired by Madonna who he insists is one of his idols.

But Aiden is confident in his audience. "I get a lot of support from my gay fans." He acknowledgesand embraces his gay audience which is his biggest demographic, and doesn’t pander to the tastesor expectations of what the market may identify as "gay music".

In fact Aiden admits: "I don’t know what that means. I don’t write songs for a ’gay audience’ -- Ijust do my own music -- at the end of day what I put out there is me."
