Crop Advisories and Plant Protection
Field preparation should be started for early mustard sowing. Farmers are advised to do
arrangement for quality seeds. Sowing of gram and lentil should be completed in lower areas.
Make preparations for early wheat sowing in lower regions
Sowing of turnip and radish in lower rained areas are advised. In mid hill region nursery
sowing of Chinese cabbage and direct sowing of radish, carrot, broccoli, and lettuce is
advised.
Sowing berseem, lucerne and oats for fodder of Rabi season also advised.
Nursery sowing of cauliflower (late group), cabbage, Knol Khol, Broccoli and Chinese
cabbage and direct sowing of radish, carrot, turnip, palak and methi can be done in mid
hill areas of the State.

Complete pinching and stalking in carnation. Advised for transplanting of marigold
seedling in fields for summer crop. Earthling up operation in gladiolus and disbudding
in carnation can be taken up.
It is optimum time to resume picking in tea at 8 days interval to maintain the quality and
productivity. Lopping of shade tress advised in tea orchards.
Maintain room temperature 18-22oC for successful cultivation of dhingri mushroom.
Plant protection measures
Apply Ektara (200gms) or Marshal (200ml) in 200litres of water against the attack of woolly apple
aphid in apple.
In peach gum is coming out from tree trunk, for control Bordeaux paint may be applied in the
affected area.
Keep the basins of the plants free from weeds ensuing weather is conducive for the attack of leaf
minor in new growth of citrus. For its control, spray 10 ml metasystox or Malathion 10 ml in 10
litre of water.
The new growth appearing below bud union of newly budded plants may be cut. For control
citrus canker, spray malathion 10 ml or metasystox 10 ml per 10 Lwater.
In case there is attack of Mealy bug in Pome granate apply Imidacloprid@ 200ml/200 L of water.
Give a spray of Magister (50ml)/Omite (200ml) or Madain (200ml) or Ovaran 60ml in 200litres of
water against mite attack in apple.
Monitoring paddy against attack of blast and brown spot is advised. Spraying of Carbendazim @
2.0 gram per litre of water is advised.
Smut may appear in paddy with symptoms of grains size brown coloured fungus lesion inside. For
control spraying of Blitox 50 @ 500 grams per hectare at 10 days interval (2-3 times) is advised.
Hairy caterpillar is also appearing in mash and til crops for control spray cypermethrin 25 EC (0.5
ml /litres of water. In soybean, moong, urd crops regularly, if white flies or sucking pests seen,
spraying of Imidacloprid 17.8 % SC @ 1.0 ml / 3 lit. of water or thiamethoxam 25 WG @40
gram/acre is recommended.
In present weather, termites may damage crops and vegetables. Farmers are advised to spray
Chlorpyriphos 20 EC @ 4ml/litre of water.
In case of severe problem of cutworms in vegetable crops, apply chlorpyriphos 20 EC @
2 litrs of water mixed with 25 kg sand per hectare.
In cucurbitaceous crops, if attack of red pumpkin beetle is found than, spraying of Diclorvos 76
EC (DDVP) @ 1 ml /litre of water is advised or Malathion 50 EC 1 ml in one litres of water.
Farmers are advised to monitor their fields regularly. Spray of Imidacloprid 17.8 % SC@ 1.0 ml /
3 lit of water is recommended against white flies and other sucking pests in all crop and
vegetables when sky is clear.
Leaf spot/blight is expected in shimla mirch and tomato for control spray tilt 1ml per liters of
water
In vegetables (brinjal, cauliflower, cabbage, tomato etc), for monitoring of borer insect,
farmers are advised to use pheromone trap @ 3-4/acre.
Give a spray of mancozeb (250gms) or Ridomil gold (250gms) in 100 litres of water at
8-10 days interval against fruit rot disease in tomato.
For shoot and fruit borer in brinjal and tomato crops, infested fruits and shoots should
be collected and buried inside the soil. If pest population is high, spraying of Spinosad 48
EC @ 1 ml /4 litres of water is advised.
Blue beetle attack is seen in Balsam, Zennia, cleome and rose, for control spray
cypermethrin 20 ml in 10 liters of water. In poly houses against attack of thrips and mites
spray rogar 20 ml in 10 litres of water and for beetle spray diclofol 20 ml in 10 litres of
water.
Weather is conducive for attack of blister blight in tea in shady and high humid areas, for
precautionary measure spray calixin @0.2% or folicure 0.1% and if attack is severe then
repeatspray at 15 days with alternate spray of blitox 0.3% at seven days interval.
Livestock:
New born calfves may have breathing & Endosperms problems so give them Fentus Plus tablets @ 1 tablet of per 10 kg of body weight but give albundajol @ 7.5 mg according to the body weight of pregnant animals.
Get their animals veccination against FMD diseases. Clean the cowshed with phenyle other wise .it causes mastitis disease to animals.
Weather is conducive for ticks and mites attack on animals. For control spray Butox @ 2.0 ml per litres of water. Add mineral mixture in dry hay for feeding to animals in these days. Advised to get your calves disbudded within 7-10 days after calving.
Consult local veterinarian for the control of ecto as well as endo parasites in animals, especially calves.
The weather is suitable for the attack of pink eye disease in newly born calves, for control prepare the solution of 1% boric acid in boiled water and wash eyes at regular interval of three hours.
Poultry:
Protect the birds from cold as temperature is expected to fall in next week.
Attack of Diarhiria and cocksedia expected so, consult the nearby veterinarian. In case of
poultry, save them from cold winds by providing curtains so that temperature of shed does
not fall below 160 C.
Provide artificial heat to chicks. Increase energy contents of ration by 5-8 per cent. Also add
coccidiostats in the ration, to prevent its occurrence. Provide 15-16 hrs. of light in the shed
Ensure proper space for egg laying of birds and provide 14-to 16 hours light including day
light .
Normal feeding schedule should be continued and add mineral in the diet if stress is seen
Fisheries:
It is time to disinfect the fish tank by draining out the water and exposing the
bottom floor of the tank to direct sunlight.
Maintain water depth of at least 5 feet. Ensure feed according to their body
weight.
It is better to agitate water with stick from side early in morning before sun rise
and after sun set.
Floriculture
Rotting disease in marigold crop is monitored.
If symptoms is found spraying of Bavistin @ 1 gram\litre or indofil-M45@ 2 ml\litre
water is recommended.
When the seasonal flowers attain height of 10-15 cm then do pinching of terminal
growing buds 1-2 cm so as to encourage the side branching for profuse flowering.
For the control of blue beetle in roses and balsam, spray endosulphon @0.1% or
cypermythrin @0.05%. T
