Suppliers Of Rugged Phones For 17 Years

Mobile phones just got tough!

With all the latest advancements in mobile technology there has never been such a pres-sure to keep up even in the farming world. The pace of modern day business no longer allows us to simply check our e-mail once or twice daily and things are moving away from face to face meetings and picking up the phone to our suppliers and customers. Now we are expected to use the internet, e-mail, text messaging and more to get the information we need and to get the job done day to day. The problem we are faced with is that a typical mobile phone doesn’t withstand the

elements and the day to day bashing that they are subjected to on a daily basis when used out-doors. Until now! The Phone Trader supplies a range of mo-bile handsets that are specially designed for use in rough environments; their handsets are wa-terproof, dust proof, drop proof and sometimes even farmer proof! They stock everything from the Land Rov-er S1 which is an easy to use tough phone right through to the Utano Barrier which is the first fully rugged Android smartphone on the UK market. One of the most popular handsets sup-plied by The Phone Trader is the Sonim XP3300 Force handset, which has just been confirmed as ‘World’s Toughest Phone’ - securing its entry into the Guinness World Records™ hall of fame. The ultra-rugged phone survived an extreme drop test from a remarkable 25 meters onto con-crete without operational damage! The handset is also certified IP68 which means it’s submersi-ble down to 2 meters depth, so it should stand up to use out in this winters rainy weather without a problem and with it’s extra loud speakers you should never miss a call ever again. For more information on what tough phones to suit your use whilst on the job simply get in touch with the team at The Phone Trader and they will be able to help you get geared up. Give them a call on 0800 849 9990 or visit www.thephonetrader.co.uk

In our next edition as a little Christmas treat we will be running a readers offer for one of these fantastic phones from The Phone Trader, make sure you pick up our Christ-mas edition for more details!

On the run up to the start of our 30th Anniversary, Am-azone Ltd has keen deals on offer again for ED and EDX precision seeders. Renowned for their high level of reliabil-ity and longevity, the ED of-fers the fastest drilling speeds available for a conventional in-dividual sowing unit precision seeder and yet still achieves a singling accuracy of more than 99%. In working widths of 4, 6 or 8 rows and with or without fertiliser applicator, there is a seeder to suit all requirements; especially the 8 row mount-ed which is all rear-mounted

without the need for a front tank. The EDX, with its unique centralised hopper for both fertiliser and seed and in-cab control over the seed rate and stripper system for the ultimate in accuracy, con-tinues to be in a league of its own with a simplicity of set up and an ease of filling not seen before and yet still excep-tion singling at speeds of up to 15 km/h. The EDX comes in widths from 6m mounted through to 9m trailed, with row spacings from 80cm down to 37.5cm, making the pre-cision seeder ideal for rape,

sugar beet, maize, sunflowers, sweet corn, etc, etc.Early Bird order scheme Order a maize drill, ei-ther ED or EDX before De-cember 14th 2012 and you will benefit from a saving of £3,000 off the normal buying price. Merlo Supercompact becomes even smaller!

The amazing P25.6 Supercompact from Merlo just became even smaller. Customers can now order the P25.6 L variant, which features a cab with overall height reduced by 150 mm to 1.77m – that’s only 5ft 10 inches, for goodness sake!Poultry is one obvious application, but it’s re-quests from all sorts of sectors that have lead Merlo to make the P25.6 L available. Not only have they listened to the market, but they’ve turned out a machine that has the widest and most comfortable cab in the sector (995mm in-side width) as well as being the lowest. Comparisons elsewhere are interesting – most other machines in this sector (1800mm wide) have cabs anything up to 200 mm narrower and 230 mm higher. In these compact machines those are, relatively, huge differences. So, drivers of small machines don’t necessari-ly need to be ‘of diminutive stature’ any longer. And, they see properly all around as well, as one of the features of the P25.6 family is an extreme-ly low boom position for a good view over the right shoulder.A 75HP Kubota engine and hydrostatic trans-mission provide very controllable power and the lifting performance – 2500kg maximum load capacity and 5.9m maximum lift height – are equally impressive.Overall height 1.77 mOverall width 1.80 mOverall length 3.88 mCab width 995 mmWeight 4750 kgTurn radius (wheels) 3.37 mMax lift capacity 2500 kgMax lift height 5.90 mMax forward reach 3.3 mCapacity at max height 1750 kgCapacity at max reach 1000kg

FOCUS ON MERLO...New P75.9 CS better than a loader?

Andrew Smales is in a good position to make a direct comparison between his new P75.9 CS - the first in the UK - and wheeled loaders;“Many storage companies use wheeled loaders” he says “Whereas we use Merlo telehandlers for all our operations, as they are more compact and we find the visibility far better. In fact, we have 4 on this site, including the very first one that we bought (a 9m P35.9) which has 16,500 hours on it and still going strong!”J & A Smales Ltd farms some 3,000 acres near Hull, and much of Manor Farm is used for storing grain (up to 25,000 tonnes), oil seed rape and po-tatoes. As well as a P40.7 Turbofarmer for general farm duties, they also bought one of the first P55.9 CS machines in the country, so the new P75.9 CS is a logical extension of their previous experience.“The reason that we’ve stuck with the Merlo CS range is simple,” says Andrew “There is nothing better for the drivers! When this yard is busy, there’s a constant stream of lorries unloading and that often means a long day of hard stockpiling. With the standard cab suspension, I’m confident that the drivers remain alert and focussed and the optional boom suspension means there is little payload loss and decreased stress on the machine”.Although a convinced Merlo user, Andrew has tried other makes but comments that there’s ‘noth-ing to compare with the visibility of a Merlo when working and that the P75.9 CS is much easier to get in and out of than the others’.Andrew is waiting for a new 4 tonne capacity bucket for the P75.9 CS to fully assess its capabil-ities. So far, the increase of capacity to 7.5 tonnes looks good and the stockpiling performance is certainly a further increase in productivity. Mer-lo’s EcoPowerDrive (EPD) transmission provides an excellent match between performance and fuel economy, and an auto-throttle facility has recently been added to increase loading efficiency.

IMPROVED RATION CONTROL ON KUHN DIET FEEDERS

Greater precision in ration formulation and feeding is now possible across Kuhn’s range of Euromix and Profile diet feeders due to developments in the company’s elec-tronic weighing and data management systems. The KDW 340 programmable weighing facili-ty links to weigh cells on the diet feeder to allow ration components to be loaded accurately and the loading to be monitored easily from a backlit liquid crystal display. Sufficient memory is available for 200 different ration components (e.g. 25 different rations with 8 ingredients each) with required accuracy adjustable down to 0.5kg per ingredient. The system allows maximum flexibility by enabling loads to be programmed according to the ration alloca-

tion per animal, or by the percentage of each ingredient per load or by actual weight of ingredient per load. The KDW 340 automatically calculates the amount of each ingredient required whenever num-ber of animals or load size varies. An alarm system op-erates to warn of over-loading of ingredients and also to alert the operator to the risk of over-mixing. The KDW 340 can operate in tandem with the KDR 400, a wireless secondary display that can be fitted in the loading vehicle to make ration control and man-agement even easier and more convenient. To take feeding management a step further, data trans-fer is now possible on Kuhn machines using the TMR Tracker. Once the software is loaded onto the farm’s of-fice or mobile computer, this system allows transfer of information with a USB memory device to and from the diet feeder. This system ensures valuable data is retained and managed within the security of the farm’s central in-formation system for reasons of efficiency, convenience and traceability.

New combine header from John DeereA new range of VarioStar cutting platforms, featuring a hydraulically operated extenda-ble knife, is optionally available for all John Deere’s 2013 model year combines. This versatile platform is available in four cutting widths of 6.1, 6.7, 7.6 and 9.15m, and can be used in all crops and con-ditions. The knife position is seamlessly ad-justable from a control box in the cab over a distance of 500mm, without the need for any inserts or additional parts. The platform can also be converted in less than 15 minutes to harvest oilseed rape, using vertically mount-ed side knives stored in the platform trailer. VarioStar is designed to deliver a good crop flow to evenly feed the combine,

and incorporates a split 620mm diameter intake auger to maintain the combine’s high productivity. The knife is guided by a roller bearing which allows high ground speeds and is fully integrated into the combine’s ac-tive contour following system. Specifically designed for Europe-an crops and conditions, John Deere’s W, T and S-Series combine range, introduced for the 2012 harvest season, features models from 260 to 617hp (maximum rating at ECE R120), providing even higher levels of grain harvesting productivity and operator com-fort. When transporting livestock it is essential to fully clean and disin-fect vehicles quickly and between each use. A Kärcher pressure wash-er is the best tool for this job, using a high pressure jet and high water flow to clean all areas of the vehicle thoroughly. Using a detergent attach-ment to draw an approved disin-fectant through the pressure wash-er gun (bypassing the internals of the machine) can save considera-ble amounts of time and result in a more thorough disinfecting of vehicles. Areas that can be hard to manually clean, such as mudflaps, wheel arches and wheels must also be cleaned and disinfected, and us-ing a Kärcher machine makes light

Kärcher pressure washers – helping farms keep safe and cleanKärcher’s pressure washers can help farmers keep their vehicles, yards and equipment in superb condition with minimal time and effort, saving time, money, and protecting valua-ble assets. Pressure washing can also help in the fight against the spread of disease.

work of this as well. With a range of accessories on offer, including wash brushes and chassis lances, Kärch-er has the right product to help you keep your vehicles clean and safe. Similar rules apply to the cleaning of equipment and prem-ises with farm animals, and again a Kärcher pressure washer and its large range of optional accessories can make light work of cleaning tasks around the farm. A wide range of cold and hot water pressure washers are available to suit different require-ments and budgets. Kärcher’s HDS range of hot water pressure washers have a steam option, making them ideal for deep cleaning of vehicle engine bays and underbodies, de-

greasing of equipment and sani-tising of yards. The HDS range is also designed to save 20% on fuel costs (compared to previous mod-els) and to be easier to manoeuvre and transport, making it ideal for jobs in several locations around the farm, whilst the new hose reel ver-sion with 20 metres of high pressure hose adds even more convenience. For more information on how Kärcher pressure washers can help maintain the appearance and biosecurity of your farm - and to discuss finance options - contact Kärcher on 01295 752 142 or email [email protected]

NEWS AND VIEWS

Kärcher repeats popular £100 cashback scheme Kärcher, the world leader in design and manufacture of cleaning machines, has announced the repeat of its highly successful £100 cashback incentive on new Kärcher HDS hot water pressure washers. For every HDS machine (excluding upright models) sold through a participating Kärcher dealer between October 8th and November 30th 2012, Kärcher will reward the customer with a cheque for £100. Using hot water when high-pressure cleaning can reduce cleaning time by up to 40% and improve final results. This is because oil and grease stains emulsify and flow more easily when heated, making them easier and quicker to shift. Hot water also accelerates chemical processes, making detergents work more quickly. On top of all this, the object being cleaned will dry more quickly because it has been warmed by the hot water. With a wide range of power options there is a machine to suit your specific requirements and budget. Many HDS machines feature eco!efficiency mode, offering fuel savings of up to 20% without compromising cleaning performance. NEWS/NEWYDDION

Big prizes scheduled for Winter Fair Eight pedigree breed societies are each offering £1000 incentives to encourage their members to enter cat-tle at this year’s Royal Welsh Winter Fair. The prize money will go to the winner of the supreme championship if the animal is sired by a pedigree bull registered by the indi-vidual society putting up the money and will be among a number of attractive cash prizes available to the winner of the Fair’s top award. Thousands of pounds in prizes are being offered to the winning entries in the 185 classes and special awards – including nine for dressed poultry a new section intro-duced last year – listed in the livestock schedule which has gone out to nearly 5000 potential exhibitors at the Fair. They include 51 classes for cattle, 50 for sheep, and 22 for pigs. There are also 18 classes in the lamb carcass compe-tition and 35 in the horse and pony section. Two special awards are being offered in a Young Handlers competition in the cattle section – one for the Junior Young Handler and the other for the Senior Young Handler – each worth £100 to the winners with £50 go-ing to the reserves. The judge will assess the ability of the handler to control and show the cattle. The quality of the animal will not be judged although it must be shown to best advantage. A major attraction at the Winter Fair is the sale of the high quality livestock which is always watched by a large crowd of ringsiders on the second day of the event. Such is the interest that a section of seating opposite the auctioneers rostrum is reserved for buyers, and intending bidders are required to wear a buyer’s lapel badge and to 2 register a number with the auctioneer before the sales begin. No-one is permitted into the sale ring without the badge which is worn for easy identification of the bidder by the auctioneer. The sale of livestock begins with lamb carcasses in the Carcass Hall at 10.30am, followed by sheep at 12 noon and pigs at 2.00pm. Cattle enter the ring at 3.00pm with the champion and reserve animals going under the ham-mer at 3.15pm. Entries in the baby beef section will be sold last and the sale of dressed poultry will take place on Monday, November 26, in the Carcass Hall at 4.00pm. Competition among exhibitors in the horse section is always keen at the Winter Fair especially for the honour of winning the supreme championship and the £100 prize for the best horse shown at the event. A similar cash prize goes to the winner of the coveted Welsh championship for the best Welsh Pony or Cob which is open to the champion and reserves of the four section of the Welsh Stud Book.Entries for the Winter Fair close on October 17

We have been experts in telecoms and data networking since 1985 and over the years have acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience as these industries have evolved, due to this we have identified a market which we felt lacked companies with the correct skill sets to tackle the new emerging technology now appearing in the CCTV industry . Old existing companies are now finding it hard to offer the hi-tech solutions we can supply and support, due to our data networking knowledge we have the ability to offer the services & features the modern technology conscious clientele are requir-ing. Theft of agricultural machinery is a serious issue. In 2011 alone, ru-ral crime cost the industry an esti-mated £52.7 million with only 5% of stolen property ever recovered. And the impact goes beyond short-term monetary losses; it also affects the day-to-day operations of a farm. With a TRACKER unit, farmers can proactively protect their assets. Figures from TRACKER re-veal that it recovered over £15mil-lion worth of stolen plant and agri-cultural machinery and equipment over the last five years and show that a staggering 68% of all plant TRACKER recovers is done so within 24 hours of the SVR unit be-ing activated and 10% of those are recovered within just one hour – good news for farmers who have an SVR unit installed. However it’s not just expen-sive machinery that farmers need to protect. 65% of plant recovered by TRACKER was worth between £10-£20,000, with just 3% valued over £50,000, proving thieves tend to stick to mid-priced vehicles. With 95% of reported stolen ‘plant’ and agricultural machinery never recovered, a covert tracking device

can really help farmers pro-tect their assets and signifi-

cantly increase the chance of recov-ery. In a bid to further help farmers, TRACKER has joined forces with leading rural insurer, NFU Mutual, to offer the insur-er’s members a 12.5% discount off premiums. This comes at a time, when the latest figures from NFU Mutual show a 6% increase in agri-cultural theft during 2011. Farmers who also mark tractors and plant with CESAR database registration, along with fitting a TRACKER sto-len vehicle recovery (SVR) unit, are rewarded with a further 12.5% dis-count, giving a total saving of 25%. TRACKER now also offers a battery powered solution designed specifically for plant and agricul-tural equipment that doesn’t have its own power source. Battery Pow-ered TRACKER Retrieve has been developed using TRACKER’s award winning technology, including its successful and proven Very High Frequency (VHF) radio technolo-gy. Fundamentally, this is brought together in a robust and waterproof battery powered unit, proven to withstand the harshest plant usage.

Using its own power source that lasts for five years, the product does not rely on the asset’s battery or indeed the equipment having a battery at all, When the customer reports the theft to the police and obtains a Crime Reference Number, TRACKER activates the unit, which emits a unique signal allowing the police to track the stolen equip-ment, even if it is being transported or hidden. TRACKER’s market leading stolen vehicle recovery solutions of-fer an unrivalled level of protection against theft, as well as significant-ly increasing the chances of recov-ery. A covert transmitter is hid-den in one of several dozen places around the agricultural machinery or vehicle. There is no visible aerial, so the thief would not know it is there. Unlike other tracking sys-tems, TRACKER works even if the vehicle or equipment is hidden in a garage or shipping container, of-fering owners the ultimate in peace of mind should the worst happen. Operated by all 52 police forces, the system is Thatcham approved, of-fering added quality assurance and the possibility of an insurance dis-count.

First roadgoing Juke-R ready for

deliveryGets new look and more power than original Juke-R conceptThe first production Juke-R is ready for delivery to its lucky owner & Nissan’s wildest crossover is also making its de-but in the virtualworld. Following phenomenal inter-est, the Juke-R has made the leap from one-off concept to road car. And it has also been digitally recreated and made accessible to millions as it is set to star alongside the Juke NISMO in the new Gameloft  Asphalt 7: Heat  mobile rac-ing game.Gameloft, a leading global publisher of digital and social games, has partnered with Nissan to give fans the chance to drive the hottest members of the Juke family on iOS and Android, smart-phones and tablets.Juke-R The Juke-R story began when it was revealed for the first time as a one-off concept in January 2012 in Dubai.

With the modified underpinnings of a GT-R under a muscular, re-sculpted Juke bodyshell, the R was like nothing else. A YouTube sensation, the Juke-R’s fan base grew exponentially - more than 5,000,000 views of Juke-R videos have been recorded to date. And so the story of the production ver-sion began. Darren Cox, Brand Direc-tor Nissan in Europe, explains: “People loved the Juke-R in Dubai - we were re-ceiving offers for the original concept on the street. We couldn’t disappoint such dedicated fans, so with three gen-uine offers on the table we made the commitment to build a limited run of Juke-Rs.”Design and technical innovations Work then started to trans-form the concept into a road car. Built by leading motorsports outfit RML with advice from Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTC-E), the Juke-R uses the Nissan GT-R supercar’s driv-etrain and suspension along with an FIA-specification roll-cage.Thanks to the expertise of NTC-E, the production version is more powerful than the concept, producing 545bhp from its 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine. Thrilling performance is guaranteed,

with 0-62mph estimated to take only 3.0 seconds and a maximum speed of 170mph.In addition to these technical enhance-ments, Juke-R #001 also has a new look thanks to input from the experts at Nissan Design Europe in Paddington, London. NDE’s Digital Team Manager Darryl Scriven explains: “The Juke-R’s bumpers and side sills were rede-signed, which is normally a very long process using full size models in clay. However, we managed to condense the development time using full-size view-ing on our new 3D-ready projector and power wall, maintaining a fully digital process while providing a true supercar quality finish.”Design refinements include more defi-nition for the front bumper and new carbon trim on the front and rear cool-ing vents and the rear aero diffuser, dis-playing the Juke-R’s pure performance DNA.
