AKT® DRIVEN IDLER SETTO INCREASE THE CONVEYING CAPACITY

To increase the conveying capacity of existing systems, the AKT® DRIVEN IDLER can be used in combination with the KÜPPER MTS (Movable Troughing Set). These components in combina-tion make up the AKT® DRIVEN IDLER SET. This system has numer-ous advantages. It is independent of the roller dimensions in the current system and can therefore be adapted to any frame design.

The AKT® DRIVEN IDLER has inte- grated sensors for permanent monitoring of the system state (industry 4.0).

This extremely compact yet pow-erful drive is completely integrat-ed into the conveyor belt roller and protected against tough oper-ating conditions by the patented KÜPPER QLR SEALING SYSTEM.

The AKT® DRIVEN IDLER opens up many new appli-cation possibilities for conveyor belt system operators. What seemed impossible only yesterday is made pos-sible today: from increasing the performance of exist-ing systems to energy recovery in the downhill zone to equipping new systems, with a virtually unlimited con-veying length thanks to using the AKT® DRIVEN IDLER.

This new technology not only reduces operating costs but also protects the environment, since goods trans-fer points are eliminated in many cases by using the AKT® DRIVEN IDLER. These are often the leading source of dust and noise emissions. Reducing the lo-cal belt tension increases the service life of the system components (rollers, belt, main drives etc.) multiple times – that conserves resources.

Intelligent control of the conveyor drive system can be realised with the AKT® DRIVEN IDLER. For example, ad-ditional loads during acceleration and deceleration of a conveyor system can be minimised by targeted slip control.

The demand for higher productivity often takes plants to their limits. Conveyor belt systems represent a special challenge in this regard since the conveying capacity is limited by the conveying cross- section. Generally an increase in production requires a costly and time- consuming retrofit of the entire conveyor belt system.

In cooperation with Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG and the Institute of Transport and Automation Technology (ITA), Artur Küpper GmbH & Co. KG has developed a cost-effective drive concept based on decentralised di-rect drives. This concept adds power to the belt conveyor and considerably reduces the system downtime for retrofitting.

The drives integrated directly into the conveyor belt rollers increase the system’s productivity – without changing the conveying cross-section – by

increasing the conveying speed. A considerable performance increase is realised with the compact direct drives while simul-

taneously improving cost effectiveness and system availability. This concept can be retrofitted in any conveyor belt system with frames, without major conversion effort.
