Let me be one of the first of many to say congratulations! I truly sympathize that your graduation coincides with these strange and unusual circumstances. I hope that you are still finding some time to celebrate, and are planning some zoom time with family and friends to party and reflect on your many accomplishments. As dean of the college, I am thrilled to be alongside you for this momentous occasion, even if we are limited to 15 minutes!

Your hard work and dedication in the classroom, lab, and field throughout your experience at the University of Maryland is inspiring. You have expertly mastered distance learning, and refocused your energies to take exams, complete capstone projects, and finalize your theses from home. I am amazed by your perseverance, and regard you as truly fearless Terps.

You now have the tools to tackle some of the most critical issues that face our society, from establishing a healthy food system, to ensuring that our limited natural resources are preserved and conserved now and into the future, to improving human, animal, and environmental health. We know you will fearlessly confront these challenges in order to make our planet better and sustainable for future generations. We are so proud of all that you have already accomplished as University of Maryland students and look forward to hearing about your successes as alumni. Dr. Craig Beyrouty

A proud first-generation college student from Baltimore, Maryland, Monaé is an Animal Sciences major concentrating in Animal Care and Management as well as a member of the University Honors Program. While at Maryland, Monaé took every opportunity to assist her faculty and her peers, first as a Guided Study Session Leader and then as a Teaching Assistant. Looking to give back to the college even more, she became an AGNR Student Ambassador and dedicated her time to promoting the college’s mission while ushering in new students. In 2019, Monaé was one of five students selected to represent the college and university at the Agriculture Future of America Leaders Conference in Kansas City, MO. She also served as a representative at the USDA Future Leaders in Agriculture Program in Washington, DC. earlier this year. Following graduation, Monaé will be dedicating her hard-work and compassion to the fight against food insecurity in minoritized and socially disadvantaged groups.
