The Designer

I bought my first sewing machine when I was 13 years old. I had wanted one for a long time and had been saving my pocket money for what seemed like endless years. Then when I finally had

it there to use, I was immensely disappointed. No, not in the machine, it was good enough, but in myself. I couldn’t stand my own sewing. It just wasn’t good enough. So the poor machine stood

there in my room ignored and unloved until I decided to learn to sew properly. I wanted to become a clothing designer. Clothing, style and design have always been my passion. This is how the

human expresses himself to the outside world – through his or her choice of clothes. You can’t decide what you look like or into which culture you are born, you can’t change your age either, but

you can express yourself though your clothes and you can also change yourself. I moved from provincial Austria where I had grown up and studied Fashion Design and Clothing Technology in

Vienna. To me the city is important and how you see the different cultures mix and express themselves – or try to fit in. Clothing for me is culture. In Vienna I learned not only how to design

clothes, but also how to construct them, to make a pattern and to sew the things I saw in my head. I also was taught how to develop a collection and to put together a catalogue of my own work.

For me sewing is a tool that should be there to hold the fabric together and to make the form. It is the very basis. It is not something to be noticed because it is just not good enough and I am

finally almost satisfied with my own standard. I like to work with challenging materials and actually enjoy the different synthetics. The clothing I design is based on classical models and I like

to work with individual details – like a zipper or quilting or studs - to add their interest, their individuality and statement. I hope you enjoy my work!

Meine erste Nähmaschine kaufte ich mir mit 13 Jahren. Ich hatte mir schon lange Zeit eine gewünscht und eine gefühlte Ewigkeit mein Taschengeld dafür gespart. Dann, als ich sie

endlich hatte, war ich wahnsinnig enttäuscht. Nein, nicht wegen der Maschine, die war schon gut genug, sondern über mich selbst. Meine Nähkünste waren mir nicht gut genug

und ich konnte keine meiner Ideen richtig verwirklichen. Also stand die arme Nähmaschine in meinem Zimmer ignoriert und ungeliebt bis ich beschloss, das Schneidern zu lernen.

Ich wollte Modedesignerin werden.Mode, Stil und Design waren schon immer meine Leidenschaft. Dadurch bringt der Mensch sich selbst der Außenwelt zum Ausdruck - durch

die Wahl seiner Kleidung. Man kann nicht wählen, wie man aussieht oder in welche Kultur man geboren wird, man hat auch keinen Einfluss auf sein Alter, aber man kann sich

selbst durch seine Kleidung ausdrücken und auch neu erfinden.Aus meiner provinziellen Heimatstadt Linz zog ich nach Wien und besuchte dort ein Kolleg für Modedesign und

Bekleidungstechnik. Große Städte sind für mich eine wichtige Inspiration, weil sich dort verschiedenen Kulturen und Stile vermischen und zum Vorschein kommen. Für mich ist

Kleidung Kultur. In Wien lernte ich nicht nur, wie man Kleider entwirft, sondern auch, Schnitte zu zeichnen und die Entwürfe, die ich in meinem Kopf hatte, qualitativ hochwertig

fertigen zu können. Mir wurde auch beigebracht, Kollektionen zu entwickeln und Kataloge über meine Projekte zusammenzustellen. Für mich ist das Nähen ein Handwerk, dass

dazu da sein sollte, den Stoff zusammen zu halten und dem Kleidungsstück eine Form zu geben. Es ist die Grundlage und sollte deshalb so gut sein, dass es nicht weiter bemerkt

wird. Ich arbeite gerne mit anspruchsvollen Materialien, weil ich die Herausforderung liebe. Die von mir designte Kleidung ist klassische Modelle mit speziellen Details wie Reiß-

verschlüsse, Stepparbeiten oder Nieten - dem gewissen Etwas der Individualität. Ich hoffe, dass euch meine Arbeit gefällt!
