Features Interoperability (LAC/E module must be running ICF version A.01.05 minimum) – allows ICF version A.02.03 DU1 HF2 to be installed on a Citrix server (or servers) and Empower clients while LAC/E modules continue to run ICF version A.01.05 or A.01.05 SP1.

Pre-Configuration Utility – allows you to specify default settings on Agilent modules before they are scanned by Empower. Using this utility, you can set autosampler thermostats, specify seat volume, and specify other settings to control modules or ensure compatibility with instrument methods. The Pre-Configuration Utility also allows modules to operate as a cluster. See Appendix A for instructions.

Plate Definition Files – to find the text files that can be imported into Empower as plate definitions, refer to the AgilentPlatesForImport folder once the self-extracting executable has been expanded.

Installation notes Recommendation: Back up all Empower projects, library information, and databases before beginning the installation.

Supported software Waters supports this Agilent ICF update with the following versions of Empower software:

• Empower 2, Feature Release 3 (FR3) minimum, English, Japanese, and Chinese (Simplified)

• Empower 3 software, English, Japanese, and Chinese (Simplified)

Requirement: At a minimum, the system must be running Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3).

The computer configurations, operating systems, and hotfixes supported by this release are identical to those for Waters ICF Support version 2.1 Hotfix 1.

Supported firmware and modules Agilent ICF version A.02.03 DU1 HF2 supports the Agilent LC modules listed in the table below. If you follow Agilent guidelines for firmware versions that Waters previously tested, Waters expects no incompatibilities. Consult Agilent, or refer to its website, for additional firmware compatibility guidelines.

Installing Agilent ICF Update A.02.03 DU1 HF2 The Agilent ICF Update consists of these components released by Agilent:

• Agilent Instrument Control Framework

• Agilent Instrument Control Framework – LC Drivers

Requirement: Both components are provided, and both must be installed.

To use this software with an Empower Enterprise (client/server) system, you must install it on every computer, LAC/E™32 module, client, and Empower Citrix application server that interacts with the Agilent LC, its methods, or results. You need not install this software on the database server unless the server hosts client software and interacts with the Agilent LC, its methods, or results.

Restrictions:

• Do not remove the ICF (versions A.01.04, A.01.05, or A.01.05 SP1) or Waters ICF Support v2.1 Hotfix 1 if they are already installed. Version A.02.03 DU1 HF2 requires both of these components.

• If the computer has no ICF support installed, you must load Waters ICF Support v2.1 Hotfix1, which automatically installs ICF A.01.04. Only then can you apply this update to correctly implement ICF version A.02.03 DU1 HF2.

To install the update (general installation instructions, not for an Empower Citrix application server):

1. Reboot the computer.

2. Log on to the computer using an account with local administrator privileges.

3. If necessary, insert the Agilent ICF media in the media drive.

4. Navigate to the location of the Agilent_ICF_A_02_03_DU1_HF2.exe file, and double-click it.

Tip: Provide a location on the computer to which you want to extract the files (such as C:\temp), and then extract the files.

5. Navigate to C:\temp\Agilent_ICF_A_02_03_DU1_HF2\Installation\1_Instrument Control Framework\.

6. Double-click the ICFInstallPackage.msi file.

9. Double-click the LCDriverInstallPackage.msi file.

10. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Requirement: On the Custom Setup page, do not change anything, and click Next.

To install the Agilent ICF version A.02.03 DU1 HF2 on an Empower Citrix server:

1. Follow the steps in the previous procedure to extract the files to a temporary location.

2. Put the Citrix server in Install mode by opening a command prompt and typing “Change user /install”.

Result: An advisory appears: “User session is ready to install applications”.

3. Navigate to \Agilent_ICF_A_02_03_DU1_HF2\Installation\1_Instrument Control Framework\ in the temporary location.

4. Double-click the ICFInstallPackage.msi file.

5. Follow the prompts.

Requirement: On the Custom Setup page, do not change anything, and click Next.

6. Navigate to \Agilent_ICF_A_02_03_DU1_HF2\Installation\2_Agilent LC Driver Package\ in the temporary location.

7. Double-click the LCDriverInstallPackage.msi file.

8. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Requirement: On the Custom Setup page, do not change anything, and click Next.

9. Put the Citrix server in Execute mode by opening a command prompt and typing “Change user /execute”.

Result: An advisory appears: “User session is ready to execute applications”.

Issues resolved with ICF version A.02.03 DU1 HF2 53065, 52296, 52022, 49760, 48344 – Temperature control for autosamplers can now be done through the instrument method. Use the Pre-Configuration Utility to set the default in the autosampler to allow temperature control through the instrument method. See Appendix A for instructions.

54311 – The updated ICF now supports control for Infinity II modules. See the supported firmware and modules table starting on page 2 for a list of supported modules.

Known issues 54337 – The current Waters ICF Support v2.1 HF1 software default behavior supports only two autosampler plates. However by assigning wellplates in the LC Driver Status Dashboard, all locations of the Agilent G7167A and G7167B Multi Sampler can be addressed.

54373 – If you must uninstall the software, and the system had Agilent ICF A.01.04 as the base prior to the installation of A.02.03 DU1 HF2, then Waters ICS Support v2.1 HF1 must be uninstalled using Deployment Manager before you can uninstall the A.02.03 DU1 HF2 Instrument Control Framework using Add/Remove Programs. 54386 – The pre-configuration utility is English language only; this is Agilent defect tracking number 255167.

54391, 51244 - This release of the Agilent ICF for Empower software does not include support for Evaporative Light Scattering Detectors (ELSDs).

54392 – Because of a problem defining the injector, it is not possible to run samples using the Agilent Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) instrument.

54393 - This release of the Agilent ICF for Empower software does not include support for Supercritical Fluid Chromatographic (SFC) modules.
