Agilent 8360B series of swept signal generators . . .

Satellite communicationFrom subsystem test throughmanufacturing to post-launchtest, the 8360B swept signalgenerators offer a wide range ofcapabilities. They provide wide-band FM and high-modulationindex FM capability for simulatingtelemetry tones. By using anexternal modulation source, these same features allow you to do frequency shift keying tosimulate satellite communicationtraffic.

The 8360B also providesprecision power control, userflatness correction, and lowsingle-sideband phase noise formeasuring linearity, fidelity, compression and out-of-channeltests.

Radar receiver testAgilent signal generators provideexcellent modulation performanceto simulate a wide range of real-world threats, which is importantin radar applications. Complexsignals can be produced bymodulating any combination ofAM, FM, or pulse simultaneously. For example, the source providesscan modulation to simulate thesignals received by a scanningantenna. These signal generatorshave superior scan modulationwith their 50 dB log AM depthand excellent pulse performance.

Antenna scan simulation

The synthesized source providesa variable time-delay internal-pulse feature. This feature can beexternally triggered forsimulation and calibration of therange resolution of a pulse radar. The 8360B family also provideslow-rate, high-modulation indexFM to simulate a frequency-stable chirp signal. This chirpsignal is used to improve a radar'srange resolution. Agilent signalgenerators also provide lowspurious signals and low phasenoise for reducing false alarmsin radar receivers.

Electronic warfarereceiversTo be effective, an electronic war-fare receiver must detect multipletargets clustered together, andidentify two separate targetsthat are closely spaced in time. The 8360B meets the challengeof testing EW receivers byproviding fast switching, lowharmonics, and low phase noise.Complex threat signals can besimulated by the simultaneousamplitude, frequency, and pulsemodulation capabilities of the8360B.

For measuring sensitivity of EW receivers these signalgenerators provide calibratedoutput to –110 dBm (Option 001).Agilent signal generators alsoprovide low video feedthrough toaccurately characterize an EWreceiver's sensitivity.

MicrowavecommunicationThe 8360B synthesized signalgenerator simulates a widevariety of signals used incommunication applicationssuch as microwave radio/links,wireless CATV, wireless LAN,PTT, service providers, andmilitary communications.

ATE systemsThe 8360 provides all-aroundperformance you can count onas the cornerstone of an ATEsystem. It delivers theperformance and versatilitynecessary to test each of thedevices or systems that the testsystem supports. In addition,it operates reliably for long periodsof time, over temperature extremes, and performs flawlessly over theGPIB programming bus.

. . . the ultimate in signal simulation

The 8360B provides widebandFM, linear and log AM, pulsemodulation and scan modulationfor simulating communicationstraffic, telemetry tones, scanningantenna and others. The sweptsignal generator provides FSKwith the use of an external genera-tor for simulating communicationsdata.

The signal generator also provideslow single sideband phase noise, nonharmonically related spurs, and a calibrated low-level outputfor more accurate out-of-channeltests, dynamic range measure-ments, and low-level sensitivitymeasurements.

Agilent 8360L series of swept CW generators – a superior value

Component testFor component or subsystemtesting, speed and accuracy arecritical. The 8360 offers synthe-sized precision, as well as manyconvenient sweep modes includinghigh-throughput analog ramp, step and power sweeps. The 8360is also completely compatiblewith all of the current 8510 and8757 microwave network analyzersystems, including broadband-coaxial, millimeter, pulsed RF,and antenna-test configurations.

Sweep flexibilityChoose from phase-lock-correctedanalog sweeps, fully synthesizedstepped sweeps, or list sweepsthat allow arbitrary frequencysequencing. Frequency switchingtimes can be as fast as five milli-seconds in step or list sweepmodes. At each step in listmode, power level and dwelltime are independently control-lable. Step sweeps offer theultimate in simultaneous speedand accuracy, providing sixtimes faster sweeps on 8510Csystems when compared toprevious generation sources.Ramp sweeps increase produc-tivity in 8757 scalar systems and provide ten times betteraccuracy in 8510 systems.

User flatness correctionThe 8360 delivers excellentoutput level accuracy andflatness. But the frequencyresponse and mismatch errors of switches, cables, and othercomponents between the sourceand the test port can degradesource performance. Userflatness correction in the 8360allows transfer of power-meteraccuracy to any remote point ofinterest, with typical residualflatness of only hundredths of adB. This correction applies ineither CW or any sweep mode, inreal time. The 8360 can controlan 437B power meter toaccomplish this calibrationautomatically, or correctionarrays can be loaded via GPIB or manually.

Two-tone measurementsAccurate fixed-frequency andswept-frequency offset measure-ments can be achieved by settingup two 8360 synthesized sweepersin a two-tone (master/ slave)measurement configuration. An8360-based two-tone measurementsystem can be operated in eitherramp- or step-sweep measure-ment modes. Ramp sweepmeasurements offer rapid devicecharacterization, while step-sweep measurements providesynthesized frequency accuracyat each frequency point. By usingone timebase for both sources, instabilities from temperature orline voltage variations are reduced.Designers and manufacturers offrequency-translation devices andamplifiers can use the greateraccuracy and stability achievedduring testing to increaseproductivity.
