Childrenunderage3tendtoputeverythingintheirmouths,soyoushouldavoidbuyingtoysthatmayhavesmallpartsthatposeachokingdanger.Avoidtoysthathavesharpedgesandpoints.Makesurethatalldirectionsorinstructionsarecleartoyouand,whenappropriate,tothechild.Alwayslookforqualitydesignandconstructioninalltoysforchildrenofallages.
Plasticwrappingsontoysshouldbediscardedimmediately;theycouldbecomeasuffocationhazard.Toyboxesshouldalsobecheckedforsafety.Useatoychestthathasalidthatwillstayopeninanypositionwhenraised,andwillnotfallunexpectedlyonachild.Forextrasafety,besurethereareventilationholesforfreshair.
Carefultoyselectionandpropersupervisionofchildrenatplayisthebestwaytoprotectchildrenfromtoy-relatedinjuries.Herearesomeideasofage-appropriatetoysandactivities:
