Thesis Statement

• Basically we all have the same skeleton of a thesis statement:

Both Kafka and Clifton (Le Guin, Vonnegut, etc.) are saying THIS.THIS = your theme statementIf you still don’t know what THIS is then we need to talk!

• Craft your thesis statement on a notecard. I will collect this in 30 minutes and begin initial conferences.

Components of your Thesis

A. a nod to the difference in perspectiveB. Theme (the common idea found in both pieces)C. a nod to HOW the authors approached the idea.

Example:Despite the unimaginable difference in backgrounds, both Kafka and Mullen caution readers that conformity is a form of imprisonment by illustrating two opposing scenarios.
