TASK, CONDITIONS, STANDARDS

TASK:To install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the ICOM radio

CONDITIONS: In a classroom environment you will be

taught and qualified on the ICOM radio

STANDARDS:You will be able to understand the basic operations, and troubleshooting of the ICOM radio

USING THE RADIO

• Basic Display Icons

1 TransmitAppears while transmitting (TX)

2 ReceivingAppears while the selected channel is busy (RX)

3 Signal Strength

4 Low Power SettingsAppears when in low 1 or low 2 power

5 EncryptionAppears when encryption is on.

6 LockAppears when programmable keys are locked.

7 Batterybattery level is low. Recharge or replace battery immediately

USING THE RADIO CON’T

• Talk Protocol in Encryption Mode• Important

• Ensure that the battery is charged before use

• Press the Push to talk (PTT) to transmit

• Because of encryption Type III, there will be a echo and delay on receiving

• When the radio is on and not transmitting the radio is in monitor mode.

USING THE RADIO CON’T

• protect radio against water exposure or immersion.

• It is rain resistant but not submersible.

• The carrying case is water resistant..

• Check antenna for proper installation.

• Do not use the antenna as a handle.

• Check the battery for correct latching if there are power issues.

BATTERY OPERATIONS• Battery/Charging Cautions and Warnings

DangerUse only ICOM batteries and chargers.

ALWAYS TURN THE POWER OFF WHILECHARGING

NEVER insert a wet or soiled battery pack/radio into the charger.

NEVER incinerate used battery packs. Internal battery gas may cause an explosion.

NEVER attach a wet battery to the ICOM radio

AVOID leaving the battery pack fully charged, or completely discharged for long time. It causes shorter battery life.
