Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO)

• The world is ever changing.• When asked about “The Power ofAmazon” that is driving small companies down, Bezos

responded, “You’ve got to earn your keep in this world. When a new

company starts, if customers come to the party, it’s disruptive to the old way... the Internet is disrupting every industry. People can complain about that, but complaining is not a strategy. Amazon is not happening to book selling, the future is happening to book selling.”

Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO)

“Companies have short life spans. Amazon will be disrupted some day... I don’t worry about it because I know it is inevitable. Companies come and go... the companies that are the shiniest and most important of any era, you wait a few decades and they are gone. It will happen to Amazon, but I would love to delay that date until after I am dead.”

Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO)

• To keep his company relevant and profitable, Bezos casts strategic long-term vision that keeps Amazon ahead of, or at least in pace with, evolutionary change.

• “That long term approach is rare enough that you are not competing amongst very many companies.”

Always Start With Why

• If you don’t know (or remember) your organization’s “Why,” it is almost impossible to get the “How” or “What” right.

• Why does your church/organization exist?• What is your calling?• What are you divinely assigned to do?

Page 9: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Always Start With Why

• Paul understood his “Why” and everything he did aligned with it.

• (Gal 1:15, 16 NLT) But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles…

• Paul did not have Peter’s assignment (to the Jews), so all his work focused on reaching the Gentiles.

• Remember “Why” you started.• You only have grace for your assignment.

Page 10: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Always Start With Why

• Your “What” should be in alignment with your “Why.”

• All activity should align with the ministry/organization’s vision, mission and goals.

• Activity does not always equal productivity.• The “Why” of the organization must be known

and clearly understood by all those involved in bringing it to pass.

• People can’t run with something they don’t know or understand (Hab 2:2).

Page 12: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Always Start With Why

• Who are you called to reach?• Who are you graced/anointed to minister to?• Is your focus local, national, international or

global?• A church with a global assignment will require

a different structure, functions, training, funding, etc., than a church that exists to minister only to a local community.

Page 13: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Always Start With Why

• There is no right or wrong answer.• If God has called you to minister to a local

community and you lead a thriving congregation of 150 members, you are a success, because you are doing what you are called to do.

• It comes down to the question of “Why.”

Page 14: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Mission vs. Methods

• Keep your mission clear. This is your “Why.”• Your methods (your “How”) must be in

support of your mission, and methods can/should change over time.

• Periodically reconsider your methods. • Assess what you are doing and why you are

doing it.

Page 15: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Mission vs. Methods

• Q. You know what God said (back then), but what is God saying (right now)?

• Q. Are you singing the songs God wants you to sing?

• Q. Do you have the “look” God wants you to have?

• Q. Are you hearing from God for this season?

Page 16: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Mission vs. Methods

• (Mat 4:4 NIV) Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”– Fresh Word.– Rhema Word.

• Q. How many churches are truly in-synch with God-ordained change?

• Q. How many churches have died because they failed to discern a divine shift?

Always Start With Why

• If you are called to reach people beyond your city, your state, and even your nation, then technology may be a tool God will use to help you fulfill your divine assignment.

• By using technology you can reach people all over the world.

• We have discussed “Why,” now let’s get into “How.”

Page 36: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

What Technology Won’t Do• Technology will not resurrect a dead

church/organization - but it can help extend the reach of one that is thriving.

• Technology will not generate the anointing – but he anointing can flow through it.

• Technology will not give you what to say – but more people can hear what God gives you to say by using it.

• Technology is not a substitute for anything – but it can add to what you are doing and help you go further/faster.

Page 37: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Closing Discussion Points• How many times have you ministered to

someone over the phone?– There was a time when that was new and people

rejected it, because it was not in person.• How many times have you been blessed by

the Word on Television or over the radio?– There was a time when people rejected it

because they thought people needed to be in the room to receive.

Page 38: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Closing Discussion Points• Jesus did not use a microphone, but we all

do.• If Jesus were alive today, would He use

technology? • Would Jesus have a Facebook account?• Would Jesus Tweet?• Would Jesus STREAM His messages LIVE all

over the world?

Page 39: Agenda Setting the stage (Context) Why (Purpose) How (Methods) What (Results) Questions

Closing Discussion Points• It all comes down to what you are called to do.• The world has changed and is changing faster than

ever.• Yesterday’s methods may not reach tomorrow’s

people.• Be led of the Spirit.• If this is not for you, make peace with it, and

continue down your path.• If God is leading you to change, but you have not

changed yet, you need to change FAST or you will get left behind.
