CHICAGO IN GLASS – EN VERREJudy Chicago — nom emprunté à sa ville d’origine — est une artiste contemporaine et socialement engagée qui jouit d’une réputation internationale. Dans le cadre de l’événement Montréal ville de verre, le Musée des maîtres et artisans du Québec expose seize de ses œuvres récentes, y compris un vaste vitrail, Rainbow Shabbat, qui incite au rapprochement entre les différentes communautés. Une belle occasion de découvrir également ce musée moins connu, qui loge dans une église néogothique du XIXe siècle, reconstruitesur les terrains du Collège de Saint-Laurent. CHICAGO IN GLASS Judy Chicago—a name she borrowed from her hometown—is a socially aware, internationally renowned contemporary artist. As part of the celebrations for the Montréal City of Glass event series, the Musée des maîtres et artisans du Québec will be displaying 16 of her recent works, including an enormous stained-glass window, Rainbow Shabbat, designed to foster harmony between diverse communities. It’s also the perfect opportunity to discover this little-known museum, set in a neo-gothic 19th-century church that was rebuilt on the grounds of Collège de Saint-Laurent. EXPOSITIONMaharaja : The Splendour of India’s Royal Courts nous fait pénétrer dans l’univers somptueux des maharajahs, du début du XVIIIe siècle jusqu’à l’indépendance de l’Inde en 1947, tout en illustrant l’héritage culturel qu’ont laissé ces mécènes royaux. Concrètement, cela signifie que l’on pourra y admirer 200 œuvres d’art créées pour ces têtes couronnées indiennes : bijoux — dont un collier, signé par la maison Cartier, orné de près de 3000 diamants! —, costumes, meubles, peintures, trônes, armes rituelles. Sans compter des clichés d’illustres photographes tels Man Ray et Cecil Beaton. Toronto sera la seule ville canadienne à accueillir cette exposition organisée avec le Victoria and Albert Museum de Londres.
