Background In December 2011 the Houston Department of Health and
Human Services leadership decided to create a dashboard to allow executive leadership to track the performance of the department.
Over time the dashboard expanded to cover performance for each program area as well as financial information for the department as a whole.
Access to the dashboard has been expanded from senior leadership to program management staff as part of a drive to push the department into a quality improvement mindset.
Additional sections were created to facilitate collaboration with community partners, who in turn gained access to the relevant sections of the dashboard.
The dashboard software is cloud-based, so the majority of this session will use the live dashboard.
