AGE CONCERN NEW FOREST is a local charity based in Dibden Purlieu. We provide vital servicesfor local older people including:

• Information and Advice • Footcare • Befriending • Telephone Buddying • Computer Clubs • Lunch Clubs • Waterside Goodneighbours • Computers at Home

OUR AIMS:

• To help all older people living in the New Forest • To encourage suitable activities for the many fit and active older people in the area – to help them remain independent for as long as possible • To provide and encourage social contact and friendship for all older people • To help plan the services older people want and need • To ensure that the local Council and Health Authority know what older people require • To involve older people in supporting local projects

YOU CAN HELP US:

We receive no funding for the work we do and we are very reliantupon voluntary contributions and fundraising activities. We arealways in need of contributions and donations to maintain andexpand our services.

We have 4 local charity shops (Dibden Purlieu, Totton, Holburyand Blackfield) which provide us with an income that is used to provide our services to the local community. All money raisedin our shops stays local.

We employ 8 part time staff and have over 200 Volunteers whohelp run all our services. New Volunteers are always welcomeand we can offer a wide range of opportunities for you to help us.If you think you could spare some time, no matter how little, comeand see us and find out how you might help us. Come and joinour happy team!

SERVICES CONTINUED:

TELEPHONE BUDDYING:

Some older people prefer a regular chat over the telephone, to make them feel that they are notforgotten. A Volunteer can arrange to phone on a regular basis.

COMPUTER CLUBS:

More and more older people are become adept at using IT. Our informal clubs enable older peopleto get together, share skills and ask questions. We encourage digital inclusion, ensuring olderpeople get the most out of using the internet.

LUNCH CLUBS:

COMPUTERS AT HOME:

We hold two clubs a week in Totton and Bartley. Clients are served a two course hot lunch amongstfriends and transport is provided.

One to one help for older people in their own homesto help gain confidence and new skills.

We also hold a monthly Sunday Lunch Club in Dibden. A three course lunch is cooked on thepremises and served in a friendly atmosphere. Transport is provided.

WATERSIDE GOODNEIGHBOURS:

A database of Volunteers is used to provide neighbourly care to those who need that little helpinghand. Tasks include shopping, collecting prescriptions and dog walking. This service provides asafety net for those who do not need regular care and support but occasionally finding themselvesneeding help. You can telephone the Co-ordinator direct on 023 8084 3676.

ABOUT US

We work in partnership with other providers in the area to ensure that older people, their families and carers can get the support they need, when they need it.

We are a member of the NEW FOREST ADVICE NETWORK which is a group of 5 organisationsworking in partnership to ensure that all people in the New Forest can have easy access to goodquality Information and Advice.

Although we are a stand-alone Age Concern we are an associate of Age UK Southampton whichensures we have the wealth of knowledge and expertise of Age UK nationally supporting us and wehave good working relationships with other Age UK/Age Concern branches.

Across the UK 3 million older people have no one to turn to for help and support

Here’s how you can help our work:

• Volunteer - We can offer a wide range of Volunteering opportunities from Shop Assistant to Minibus Driver, from Cook to Office Assistant

• Make a donation - If you do not want to commit to regular support we are delighted to receive one-off donations. Our shops will always welcome donations of good quality goods to sell

• Leave a legacy - This can be a very tax-efficient way to ensure your estate benefits olderpeople well into the future

• Spread the word - If you come across an older person or someone caring for an older person who needs support or guidance, please pass on our contact details so that we can be of help

St. George’s has it’s own team of fully trained mobile care staff who can be available at short

notice to help you maintain maximum independence in your own home.

Visits can be arranged from half an hour to all day with night cover and sleep-ins available.

Our care team can help you with a number of different tasks, such as:

Shopping and domestic help Medication Prompting

Night Care Companionship

Gardening and Home maintenance Live-in

We provide safe transport for our Clients, with or without an escort, which includes

Ocean Breeze Care Home

has been open since January 2015 primarily supporting Residents with Dementia. Situated close to the beach, residents enjoy being taken to see the outstanding views.

Featuring 22 tastefully decorated en suite rooms. Capacity for 23 residents with a Double room either on the ground or first floor with most downstairs rooms having patio doors leading to their own private patio area.

There are two communal lounge /diners and a large Activities room and Hairdressing salon. A variety of activities are also held in in the morning and afternoon

on both floors including word games and puzzles, arts and crafts and floor games. An exercise class is held on a Monday morning and regular entertainers also come to the home. We also have a knit and natter group which also includes embroidery and crochet. Residents are also encouraged to continue with any activities they like to do. All our fresh food is locally sourced and Menus designed with the residents choices reflected, we also have scrumptious home-made cakes available on a daily basis.

We have a lovely sunny garden with a number of suntraps where seating is available and the residents are often outside having drinks or just soaking up the sunshine.

We have many raised flower boxes that they tend to on a regular basis planting and weeding and having a good chinwag.

With a change in management and a number of new additions to their team including Debi Phelan-Bainbridge, Manager, Ocean Breeze is looking to be not only

an excellent caring and homely care home, but a Dementia resource centre. Debi has a wealth of experience gained from many years in the Care Sector and has a passion for Dementia having worked with both the Alzheimers Society and the NHS on a Department of Health project identifying people undiagnosed with Dementia in

the local community. Debi recognises that there is a huge gap between being given a diagnosis of Dementia and moving into care and is hoping to bridge that gap by

starting memory cafes, singing for the Brain and Carers groups utilising their large Activities room, where people with Dementia their families and Carers can come for

an Informative session, advice or just a chat when the going gets tough. She will also be providing up to date information on local services available and where to get further

assistance forging links with Bournemouth University Dementia Institute, the Alzheimers Society and local Health Authorities, Dementia Action Alliance and Dementia friends. We are also offering a number of other services including

emergency respite and weekly bathing sessions – for previous respite residents to name but a few.

Our staff are passionate about caring and have a very good understanding empathy and compassion for Dementia.
