Stop Bullying! TAKE A STAND, LEND A HAND.

By Alex Carreon Every year in November is an awareness month for Men's Health, also known as Movember. But this is not the only one that happens in November. No Shave November is the other one. No Shave November and Movember are two different awareness month-long campaigns that involve growing out your facial hair.

The difference is that No Shave November encourages men and women to donate the money they would use on shaving related products to the cause of cancer. But you may trim and groom it, if needed. On the other hand, Movember requires that you grow out and groom your mustache with no connection to your sideburns or the handlebars to your chin. You also have to conduct yourself like a true country gentleman. I talked to a few students that are going to participate, including: Aaron Vanderboom, Henry Mushimba, Joey Ramirez, Hayden Earwood, and Ernesto Escobar.

    Hair for Health

By Juan Soto Bullying has to be one of the worst things a person can do to another human being. Some people don’t know how serious bullying is. They don’t see how many people suffer each day by bullying. According to dosomething.org, over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. About 160,000 students skip school just so they don’t get bullied. Students don’t get their education because of bullying problems. Nobullying.com states that 67% of students believe that schools respond poorly to bullying. 71% of students report incidents of bullying as a problem at their school. 1 in 10 students drop out of school because of bullying. According to a study by Yale University, about 7 to 9% of bullied victims are more likely

to consider suicide. Most people want to be successful in life, but many can’t really do that because getting bullied is becoming a big part in their lives. Most bullies don’t realize how hurtful bullying is until it’s too late.

I think bullying should be a crime because there are a lot of people who suffer from it. There have also been a lot of deaths because of it, and therefore it should be considered a crime. Most people don’t die, but many wish they had.

We “mustache” you not to bully.

    Come to Alvord

    By Daniel Trujillo

On Friday, October 9th, I was selected to attend La Sierra High School with Ms. Fielding and Ms. Pynn for the purpose of promoting the programs Alvord High School has to offer. It was a very interesting experience talking in front of over 60 La Sierra High School students.

The key points I made where that attending Alvord helped me a lot in recovering credits and it helped in changing my attitude. My colleague Rene Lara also expressed how Alvord High School helped him. The reason why Rene and I were selected to go live this experience was because we are really involved in school, and they needed someone that wouldn’t be shy in front of a crowd.

I think the result was a good one; we persuaded several students to transfer to Alvord High School. I really enjoyed the experience and I would do it again if I was asked to!

According to Rene, “When Daniel and I were asked by Ms. Pynn if we were willing to go and speak to La Sierra students about Alvord High School, without any hesitation our response was yes. I spoke about my troubled past which I went through in my early years of high school. We both encouraged them to attend Alvord High School.”

Fear not! The thanksgiving feast continues

By Rose Fui For about 30 years Alvord High has hosted an annual Thanksgiving Feast. This year the Annual Thanksgiving Feast will be held on Wednesday, November 18th. ASB went around to classes with a sign-up sheet asking students to bring something to contribute to our Thanksgiving Feast. The teachers take home something the students bring to prepare at home. They cook it and then they bring it back to school. This year, we have a parent who has volunteered to cater the event by donating 6 cooked turkeys and 2 cooked hams. According to Ms. Pynn, students should not bring their own dishes. It is ncouraged that everything be store bought. During the Thanksgiving Feast, there will

By Alvaro Duque Thanksgiving is coming and I decided to go and talk to some students around campus and ask them questions about their Thanksgiving break.

Andy Dominguez’s plans are to spend it at home and eat with the family. His family tradition is to say what they are thankful for, but the best tradition to him would be that he always gets the turkey leg first.

During Thanksgiving, Vanessa Covarrubias goes to Los Angeles to go spend time with her family and make some traditional posole.

Jose Flores’ Thanksgiving plans are to chill with his family and have a good time with them while also making some traditional tamales.

Manuel Leon’s plan for Thanksgiving is to go out with his dad’s side of the family and celebrate it with them and play some traditional board games.

Hayden Earwood’s plans for Thanksgiving are to be with his girlfriend and hang out together. Then they will have dinner together, which would be turkey and ham.

Mr. Handen’s plan for Thanksgiving is to stay home with family and friends, then go dirt bike riding at the end. Chris Hart’s Thanksgiving plans are to hang out with his family and before they eat they do a traditional prayer.

During Thanksgiving Isaiah Middleton plans on going to Hemet with his family and eating a lot of food; his goal is to gain 10 pounds but before eating they say Thanks on Thanksgiving. Mrs. Hutson’s Thanksgiving plan is to go on a cruise to Mexico with her husband and son. She hopes this will be the start of a new tradition.

Alvord Celebrates Big for Halloween! By Lina Gomez

On Thursday October 29th, Alvord High School had its annual Back-to-Ghoul Night.

Parents and Guardians were welcome to come and meet teachers. The ASB club put together a Halloween door-decorating competition. Parents were allowed to vote on which classroom had the best Halloween door. Mrs. Hutson’s 3rd Period class won the competition and a pizza party for their efforts.

ASB students gave out Halloween goodie bags to the parents as they “Trick Or Treated” at each class.

When asked about how he liked Back-to-Ghoul Night, Mr. Handen said, “I like the door decorating, it was different; we never did it here.” He also shared that he would like us to offer our traditional BBQ for the parents as well.

    Lifestyle

On November 6th, in Downtown Riverside, Alvord High School participated in the Dia de Los Muertos Festival with an art sale. Alvord High School art teacher Mr. Shultz led students in the creation of Dia de Los Muertos masks to sell. The purpose for selling the masks is to raise funds for class materials. Mr. Shultz sold 23 masks out of 30, making an estimated total of $805. Many students were involved and all the art classes contributed. Many students stayed after school to help out even more with the making of the masks. As the project advanced, more students continued to help out. This year was better than previous years for selling masks. The way Mr. Shultz spends the money from the fundraiser is that the Rebel Art

Club discusses and votes on what art materials they need for the art class. They did a really good job when it came to drawing and painting the masks.
