Requirements of Afterschool Snack Program

Must have an Educational or Enrichment Activity

Must be in an Structured & Organized Environment

Must have Supervisory Care during Afterschool (Food service staff are not required to serve

or supervise afterschool snacks)

Must have Full Access for All students – No associated costs or additional fees – No competitive school sports

After the end of the school day

Exception: “Expanded Learning Time” – contact your SNP Specialist to see if you qualify for serving snack during this time.

Serving time must end by 8pm Program not available on weekends or days when school is not in session

Daily not required, can be weekly, monthly or any other frequency…

Meal Pattern Alerts Exception to the rule of 2 out of 4 components:

Milk +Juice ≠ reimbursable snack

The 2 components can not be of the same (carrots & apple juice , or bread & crackers) must be from different components

A pc or ½ cup juice does not fulfill minimum fruit requirement = ¾ c. or 6 oz. (for 6-12 years)

Sweet grains/breads: Graham crackers, granola bars, cookies, toaster pastries, doughnuts, sweet rolls, cakes, brownies, and fruit turnovers can be served, as one part of the snack, but no more than twice a week.

2 On-site monitoring reviews per year required for ASCP

1st done within the first four weeks from the start of the ASCP for the new SY.
