After Shawn Levy,then what?Our Oct. 1 meeting has been set for sometime. And, given it’s our first-ever film/lecturecombination, it’ll be something different.
But then what?
It’s been a year since we met to discuss thefuture of the club. Aside from short-termprograms, nothing has emerged from thatdiscussion last fall. And now we’re out ofthose programs. Nothing else has beenscheduled after Oct. 1. Without a president,there is no impetus to look ahead. And thatlack of planning is coming home to roost.
On Oct. 1,, please come with an idea or twofor a program … and a willingness to take thelead in seeing that idea to fruition. We willstart the meeting with a discussion of whatcomes next. Then we’ll welcome Shawn Levyand discuss his book and Fellini’s film.
We’ve got a double-feature for you on Sunday, Oct. 1.Our guest speaker that day is author and former Oregonianfilm critic Shawn Levy. He’ll discuss his book Dolce VitaConfidential. But before we meet Shawn, we’re going toscreen the film for which the book is named.
Come early if you’d like to watch Federico Fellini’smasterpiece, La Dolce Vita at 12:30pm. Both the movieand the book depict “the sweet life” of Rome in the 1950s.
We’ll even have somerefreshments for you moviegoers.If you only want to come for ourspeaker, arrive at 3:30pm.
Shawn encourages you to read hisbook before the meeting, so thatwe can engage in more of adialog, rather than a staticlecture. You can get the book atthe library, or buy it at Powell’sor Amazon.com.
