PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The Family YMCA at Tarrytown, a not for profit charitable organization, is offering an

afterschool enrichment program to the students at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School on-site from dismissal until 4:30 pm. It is mandatory that participants remain in

the school at dismissal; no exceptions! The first part of the program (2:25 -3:30) will be time for attendance, snack (parents must provide), homework and game time.

Students will then be escorted by our staff to their respective enrichment class in the school. Specialized enrichment classes will be from 3:30-4:30. Parents must come

into the school to pick up their children @ 4:30.* You will be directed to the classroom

your child is in by our staff. We will not permit children to be released without a parent or designated adult signing out the child at the end of the enrichment class.

*Students who are enrolled in the Childrenspace program will be escorted to and from the enrichment program by the Childrenspace staff.

Enrichment pricing is based on curriculum, preparatory time for instructors, and the

overall program supervision. Materials fees where noted must be paid directly to the instructor during the first class. Please note that some classes incorporate special

snacks into the class. If you have a concern regarding the snacks please speak directly with the instructor.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE:

Send your child’s registration form and payment in their backpack to school. Please mark all registration forms to the attention of the “Enrichment Program.” The Site Coordinator, Jean

Giordano, will be collecting them on a daily basis. Registration forms will be marked in the order they are received. Once the registration period is over, Dawn Benner @ the Family YMCA at Tarrytown will process your selections. Please do not direct any inquiries to the Site Coordinator.

PAYMENT

The YMCA accepts the following types of payment: Credit Cards (VISA, MasterCard, &

American Express). Please do not send cash. DATES Registration: Jan 8, 2018 through Jan 12, 2018.

(NOTE: Registration forms will not be accepted until the dates listed above; they will be processed in the order they are received. Please DO NOT E-MAIL registration forms)

Confirmation E-Mail: Jan 22 – Jan 24 An e-mail will be sent to you confirming your child’s class placements. It is your responsibility

to check for an email. Always remember to check your junk folder. ONLY if you do not receive an email should you contact Dawn Benner who can assist you with your confirmation.

Change Days: Jan 25 and Jan 26 ONLY, 8AM-4PM Daily For those who have a conflict, class cancelled or need to make a change in their selection you

must contact Dawn Benner by E-MAIL. No additional changes will be made after Jan 26th.

FINANCIAL AID Through the generosity of our donors, the Family YMCA at Tarrytown is pleased to offer financial aid opportunities to income-qualified families and individuals. For more information, please

CLASS CANCELATIONS At times instructors cancel classes due to illnesses or an unforeseen event. Every effort will be made to provide a sub that is competent in the area of the class that is being offered. If a sub

cannot be found we will either provide a group games class or place children in an existing class of their choice.

ABSENCES If your child WILL NOT be attending the After-School Enrichment Program on a particular day,

but will be in school, you MUST send in a note addressed to the After-School Program Coordinator, Jean Giordano.

PICK-UP PROCEDURE (4:30pm)

For safety reasons, children will not be excused from the program until their parent or guardian signs them out. There is NO BUS SERVICE AVAILABLE. All children must be picked up PROMPTLY at 4:30 pm. Please enter the lobby near the Welcome Center at pick-up time, so that

you can check the location of your child’s class. Classroom locations are subject to change. Chronic lateness for pick-up time may be grounds for dismissal from the program

and/or you may be subject to a late fee of $1 per minute per child.

IMPORTANT: IF SOMEONE OTHER THAN A PARENT/GUARDIAN/ REGULAR

BABYSITTER WILL BE PICKING UP YOUR CHILD FROM THE PROGRAM, YOU MUST SEND A NOTE STATING THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHO WILL BE PICKING UP YOUR CHILD.

FOR YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY, YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL UNLESS YOU HAVE SENT IN A NOTE IN WRITING.

INCLEMENT WEATHER If the school is closed or there is an early dismissal due to inclement weather, the program will

be canceled. If there is not an early dismissal, but weather conditions are hazardous, the school district may cancel all after-school activities. If this is the case, it is the parent’s responsibility to call the school at 914- 271-5184 to find out if the program is canceled. The school district will not

be able to call each parent individually. If the program has been canceled, all children will be

sent home via his/her regular after-school transportation. There will be only one make-up date per class day for inclement weather.

WITHDRAWALS/CHANGES/DISMISSAL Please note that classes are subject to change. Classes need to meet minimum enrollment

figures in order to run. If there is not adequate sign-up for a class, students will be encouraged to try another class. You will be contacted by Dawn Benner.

There will be no refunds if you withdraw your child from the class once it has begun. After

registration is complete, your child will not be permitted to switch to another class. If your child’s behavior is disruptive, you will be contacted early on, so that we can work

together to find a solution. Continuous disruptive behavior will be grounds for dismissal from the program.

REFUNDS Program Fees are refunded for requests made up to one week prior to the first day of classes,

for classes the YMCA cancels, and for documented medical reasons. Except in cases where the YMCA cancels a class, a $10 processing fee is charged for all refunds. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS

FOR WEATHER-RELATED SCHOOL CLOSINGS. SCHOOL NOTIFICATION

It is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school that their child will be attending the Y Enrichment Program. Please us the attached notification form for CET.

MONDAY CLASSES

LET'S KNIT! Grades 1-4 Instructor: Lori Cohen

Knitting is a great hobby for kids. Students will learn the basics of knitting as they

create several simple accessories of their choice. We will learn about all kinds of yarns and the tools knitters use. Kids will also

decorate their own knitting bag and make their own knitting needles. They will try a

ball winder, knitting machine and more. Students who already have some knitting experience will learn new skills. Kids will

have fun while they learn to love knitting!

Fee: $200.00

FEEL AND LEARN FRENCH GRADES 1-4 Instructor: Claire Hilbert

Join in the mixed-age fun in a French

environment right at CET. We’ll immerse ourselves from wherever we are in our

French-learning process, experiencing culture together with language. Touching on French

customs, attitudes, songs, foods, media, maps, games and more, children will have the

chance to practice acting out early-learning phrases and expressions in a conversational, interactive style. All levels are welcome.

Fee: $200.00

INTRO TO ACTING Grades 2-4 Instructor: Sione Owen

During this program, children will get to experience an introduction to acting through

theatre games, mime, storytelling, basic character development, improvisations, and

movement. Costumes, props and music will be utilized.

Fee $200.00

TGA GOLF Grades K-1

Instructor: TGA Premier Junior Golf. It is

the only national at-school, after school junior golf enrichment program.

TGA stands for Teach, Grow & Achieve. Locally, TGA has run junior golf programs

since 2008, teaching the lifelong sport to 4,000 youth of Northern Westchester. The TGA curriculum utilizes drills and language

that make it fun to learn golf for kids in grades K - 8. As students advance through

the 5-Level program they will learn basics and fundamentals of the sport, all the while being prepared to play on the golf course.

TUESDAY CLASSES

DANCE YOUR SCIENCE LEARNING GRADES 1-4

Instructor: Rebecca Archer

Do you love to dance and move your body in creative ways and also love learning about science and nature? In this workshop of

Science through Inspired Movement, children will use their whole bodies to explore

science concepts about living things and their environments through guided dance and movement activities! No prior experience is

needed, only a desire to learn and move!!

Fee: $200.00

TGA GOLF: Grades 2-4 Instructor: TGA Premier Junior Golf: It is

PRE DESTINATION IMAGINATION: Grades 2-4

Instructor: Nicole Miller Get prepared to participate in one of Croton

Schools' most exciting programs! DESTINATION IMAGINATION is an International

creativity problem solving competition for students in grades 5-12. Children in 'Pre-DI' will learn team building skills and hone their creative

and critical thinking skills while focusing on ‘Instant Challenges.' An Instant Challenge is a

problem or puzzle that the team must solve immediately without advance preparation. The

unrehearsed solutions are judged for their creativity, teamwork and ingenuity. For example, build a house out of marshmallows

and straws or produce and perform a television commercial about a new grass-flavored soda - in

just four minutes! NOTE: SINCE PRE DI IS A UNIQUE CLASS, WE

ASK THAT IF YOUR CHILD HAS ALREADY TAKEN THIS CLASS THEY TRY SOMETHING ELSE SO

THAT THEY ARE NOT BORED OR INFLUENCE THE EXPERIENCE FOR THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS.

INTRO TO CODING WITH SCRATCH GRADES 2-4

Instructor: Curious-on-Hudson In this beginner class, 1st and 2nd grade

students will be introduced to logic of coding and programming through SCRATCH. In this

graphical, drag and drop interface developed for children by MIT, students learn how to create simple programs that are fun, animated and

personalized. Each class contains a separate lesson in SCRATCH and students can share their

work with their families at the end of class.

SCHOOL HOUSE CHESS GRADES: K-1

Instructor: Mad Science

In this class children develop learning and thinking skills by teaching them chess. Chess has been proven to help with logic, memory,

analysis, reading and mathematics. However, we know the importance of having fun! We

teach chess with fun characters and stories. It also is a step by step curriculum that begins with basic rules and extends through advanced

strategies and tactics!

BUGS, BIRDS, BEASTS AND BEYOND

GRADES K-2 Instructor: Mad Science

Explore the natural world and its adaptations. Observe creepy crawly bugs, make casts of

animal tracks & study the feeding habits of owls as we dissect their lunch’s remains. Some of

the weekly topics in this session are: Bugs, Earthworks, Walloping Weather, Mission Nutrition, All about animals, Life in the

Sea, The birds & the Beasts, Earth Awareness, Nature and the Science of

Sport! Fee: $220.00

TGA TENNIS GRADE 1-4

Instructor: TGA Premier Youth Tennis of Northern Westchester is bringing tennis to

your school! TGA stands for teach, grow, achieve. Every

student has the opportunity to earn a lifelong, Life changing sport! Classes are full of high

energy, physical fitness, character development themes, and educational components. All equipment is provided. New

students begin in the yellow level. Returning students advance to upper levels.

MAGIC: Grades K-4 Instructor: Hobby Quest In this magical Quest, we will teach you everything you need to know to become a real

performing magician! You’ll learn all of the secrets that have been guarded for centuries by magicians! Reading your audience’s minds will

be a piece of cake after you learn our “Mind Reading Paper” and “Dice Prediction” tricks! Next you’ll discover the “Magic Blank

Deck”, where you will dazzle your friends and family by turning a blank deck into an actual deck of playing cards right in front of their

eyes! If that wasn’t enough, we’ll make sure your parents get a chance to see exactly how fascinating your performance is by inviting them

in for a real magic show at the end of the semester!

DRAWING AND PAINTING WHAT WE SEE

Grades 2-4 Instructor: Hillary Hostetler This class will teach observational drawing and

painting for kids. We will learn how to observe closely and record what we see. Using a

variety of art materials- such as pencil, oil pastel, pen and ink, watercolor paints, charcoal, and more: we will draw leaves, fruit,

stuffed animals, toys, people, and pets. There will also be a warm up or wind down, "free

draw" time in each class. Material fee of $20.00 to be paid to instructor

upon first class.

Instructor: Super Soccer Stars Classes are non-competitive, and use positive

reinforcement to teach children soccer skills in a fun, engaging, and educational

environment. We create a specific curriculum tailored to each school’s needs. Our unique age-specific curriculum is designed by a

combination of early childhood, behavioral, and soccer specialists to ensure that each

child is learning, improving their self-confidence, and having a blast from the

moment the whistle blows. Fee $220.00

PRE DESTINATION IMAGINATION 2

Grades 3-4 Instructor: Nicole Miller

This is the next level of preparation for

Croton School's Destination Imagination program and is open only to students who

have completed a previous Pre Destination 1 class. New students should

register for Pre Destination Imagination 1.

ORIGAMI TOY MUSEUM GRADES 1-4

Instructor: Kazuko Omori

Make your own origami toy museum! A snowman family, a fox on sled, a spinning

toy, a balloon catch game.....these are just some examples of what will fill your museum. Origami is the art of Japanese paper folding,

and it transforms a sheet of paper into a fun 3D object. Students will learn basic

techniques and make different objects each week to complete their museum! Come and learn this fun paper art!

FRIDAY CLASSES

AIRPLANES ADVENTURES GRADES K-3 Instructor: Hobby Quest

We will have some high flying adventures! Starting off with something new and exciting,

we will build the Unlimited, a balsa wood helicopter powered by a rubber band that not

only flies 50 ft in the air, but also taps into your creativity and imagination by giving you different options on how to build it! No

semester would be complete without an electric plane, and this time we’re going big

with the Air Victor, an amazing RC helicopter that will be sure to amaze your friends! From helicopters to stunt planes, this Airplane

Adventure is sure to be one you won’t forget!

SUPER SOCCER STARS: Grades 2-4 Instructor: Super Soccer Stars

Talk n Drum Language & Music Program: Grades K-3

Instructor: Nanette Garcia

Learn Spanish & sign language the Talk n Drum way! TnD is a researched based method

to teach languages through drumming, singing and movement. It is a music experience that develops critical thinking while making

sensory and cognitive connections so children K - 3rd graders learn

conceptually. TnD develops logical thinking and raises the child’s awareness of his/her own unique learning style. Most of

all, TnD teaches that leaning anything can be FUN!
