TheD.C.Women’sAttorneyGroup(“WAG”)organizedthreeprogramsin2018:(1)aGame/TriviaNightinJune2017,(2)“SummerCocktailsandConversations”inAugust2018and(3)Fall“CocktailsandConversations”towelcomethenewpartnersandassociatesthatjoinedMoFo.Allthreeeventswerewellattended.
Programs
Game/TriviaNight:InJune2018,WAGputonitsSecondAnnualGame/TrivianightthatwaswellattendedbythewomenassociatesandpartnersintheD.C.andNorthernVirginiaoffices.Over30associatesandpartnersattendedtheevent.TheQuidProMoFosteamledbyCatherineChappletookhomethetrophy(andcovetedbottlesofRose)forwinningtrivia.TheQuidProMoFosalsowonthe“WhoRunstheWorld”awardforthemostdiverseteamwhentheyassembledateamofassociates,partners,andsummerassociatesfromboththeD.C.andNoVaoffices).CampTooinTentstookhometheprizeforbestcostume/spirit(thesecondyearinarowthattheRachaelPlymale‐ledteamwonthisprize).DespiteplasteringtheD.C.officecommonareaswithpropagandaposters,theNotYourAverageJanes(ledbyCrystalKaldjob)didnotwineithertriviaorbestcostume/spirit.OtherteamsincludedtheCounselorsinParadise(ledbyEmilyBeers)andLearnedHand/LearnedFoot(ledbyCynthiaAkatugba).Aquotefromoneofthepartnersthatattended,“AftermyfirstTriviaNight,IcansayIwillbebacknextyear.Itwasagreattimeandacredittoallwhowereinvolvedinplanningit.”
Summer“CocktailsandConversations”:OnAugust22,2018,WAGhostedCocktailsandConversationsatpartner,NatalieFlemingNolan’shouse.Theeventwaswellattendedandintendedtocontinuetobuildthecommunityofwomenassociatesandpartnerswithoutthepressuresofsummerrecruiting.WewerewelcomedtoNatalie’shousewithourveryownMargaritamachine.

8thMar OurLondonMarketingTeam(LizRussell,MarieArmstrong‐HerbertandHollyBanham)hostedalivelylunchtimesessioninhonourofInternationalWomen’sDay.Thesession,titled“CelebrationofWomen,Present,Past&Future”,tookapubquiz‐styleformatandLondonWomenjoinedteamstocompeteinaseriesofchallengesfocusedoninspirationalwomenfromhistoryandthepresentday.Thevictoriousteam(LynnseyMcCall,ShawnaPasquale,LauraSteenandGemmaAnderson)donatedtheir£100charityprizemoneytoBloodyGoodPeriod(https://www.bloodygoodperiod.com/),anon‐profitorganisationthatprovidesmenstrualsuppliestoasylumseekers,refugees,andthosewhocan'taffordthem.
10thMay Londontrainee,IsabelJanssen,gaveabrilliantspring‐themedpresentationtitled
“SpringCleaning:TheMindEdit”thatgaveLondonWomentheopportunitytoexamineourpersonalandworkplacewell‐beingwithtipsonhowtorevitaliseourthoughthabits.Isabelexaminedthelatestresearchonpositivepsychologyandfocus,andexploredhowthiscanhelpusbemorehappyandproductivebothin,andoutsideoftheoffice.Wellnessisincreasinglyrecognisedasbeingofcriticalimportancetothehappinessandsustainabilityofbusyprofessionals,andthiswasawelcomeremindertopracticemindfulnessandself‐care.

6thNov ExternalspeakerMarleneHalpern,DirectorofProBonoServicesattheCenterforReproductiveRights(withwhomthefirmhasalong‐standingrelationship),joinedusforaneye‐openingandinspiringpresentationanddiscussionabouttheCenter’sworkgloballyandthewaysinwhichtheCenterhascollaboratedwithprobonolawyersatMoFoandotherfirms.ManyattendeesaskedMarlenequestionsandexpressedaninterestinhelpingwiththeCenter’swork.WeandMarleneexpressedourhopethatthissessionwillsparkgreatercollaborationbetweentheCenterandourlawyersintheLondonoffice.

St.Patrick’sDayHappyHour–InMarch2018,weheldourfirsteventatDublin’s–anIrishpubwithinwalkingdistancefromtheLAoffice.Wehad11associatesjoinusthroughouttheevening.TwoofourmembersofIrishdecentsharedsomeinformationabouttheoriginsoftheholiday.
EscapeRoom&DinneratPinkTaco–InJuly,thegroupco‐hostedaneventforour2018SummerAssociatesasawaytointroducethemtotheaffinitygroupsintheoffice.Theeventstartedoffwithanescaperoomchallenge.Groupsoffourtosevenwereassignedtothevariousrooms.Eachroomhadatleastonerepresentativefromtheoneoftheaffinitygroupshostingtheevent.Followingtheescaperoom,wewenttoPinkTacoforMexicanfood.About30peopleattendedtheevent.
EnhancingYourFirmBioLunchProgram–InOctober,DirectorofBusinessDevelopmentLauraDesjeanledatrainingsessiononenhancingourfirmbiosandsocialmediabios.Followingthepresentation,Lauraheldone‐on‐onemeetingswithassociatestoprovidepointedfeedbackontheirindividualbios.Aboutnineassociatesattendedtheprogram(withlunchfromHalalGuys).

Event#1:NewGirls’NetworkBreakfastReception.TheLAWAGhostedlocalnetworkinggrouptheNewGirlsNetworkinourofficesforapaneldiscussionwithwomenin‐housecounsel.Theeventcombinedbusinessdevelopmentwithskillstraining.WomenattorneysfromaroundLosAngelesgatheredforanetworkingbreakfastfollowedbyapaneldiscussionfromfourwomenin‐housecounsel.ThepanelistsincludedtheGCsofEpson,AECOM,andSoCalGas.Theyspoketoanengagedaudienceaboutwhatthey,asgeneralcounsel,lookforinoutsidecounsel.Theyalsogavetheaudiencetipsforeffectivepitches,clientrelationshipmanagement,andtheirowncautionarypetpeeves.TheeventwaswellattendedbybothwomenfromtheLAofficeandfromotherlocalwomenleadersinthelegalfield.(Eventdate:January24,2018;Eventlocation:MoFoLA.)
