NSS REGULAR ACTIVITIES
1. Leadership Training Camp (LTC) between 9-13 August 2016 at Kalina
NSS Unit of University of Mumbai organizes a Leadership Training Camp (LTC) for 5 Days every year.
The main purpose of this program is to develop leadership qualities of NSS volunteers. Mr.Srisant
Manjappa Shetty and Viraj Sanjiv Kolekar attended this camp for 2016--17 at Kalina Campus, University
of Mumbai from 9 August to 13 August 2016. Various seminars, workshops and activities are conducted to
nurture the qualities of students and make them socialize.
2. National Flag Respect Program on 14 August 2016 at Borivli Railway Station
NSS Atharva unit feels proud to organize above program. The main purpose of this event is to make
citizen aware about tricolor pride. It is found that every year next day of national festivals (Independence
and Republic Days) plastic and paper tricolor flags are found on roads, in dustbins and in gutters which is
insult of the nation. As we know that national flag of every country is a sign of freedom, existence and
pride. NSS Atharva Unit organizes this program at public places every year. Volunteers spread awareness
with the help of banners, placards and face to face verbal communication. This time we have organized this
event at Borivali Railway Station (W) on 14 August 2016 one day before of Independence day. We
appealed and made people aware not to throw flags anywhere and if found they can pick it up.
3. Celebration of Republic Day and Stage Performance at College on 15 August 2016
This unit actively participates and celebrates independence day every year. This time students performed
dance and singing songs on patriotic theme as usually. Volunteers appealed gathered people not to throw
flags and if they are found some where they can pick them up.
4. Tree Plantation Drive at IT Park Dharivali , Malad (W) on 15 August 2016
Helping hands for healthy environment will help to make globe healthy. Our organized tree plantation
drive at IT Park Dharivali, Malad (W) on 15 August 2016 on the occasion of Independence Day. Teaching
and Non-Teaching staff participated actively in the same drive. More than 200 hundred plants have been
planted by volunteers and staff members.
5. National Flag Pick Drive on 16 August 2016
NSS unit puts hard efforts to pick up thrown flags on next day of Independence Day. This year unit divided
volunteers in two groups and decided their location for flag pick up at Borivali Railway Station and
Malvani, Malad respectively. Volunteers felt bad to see flags on ground, road, and in gutter. Volunteers
picked up around 400 flags in one day from above places. All the volunteers pick up flags for next few
days without and hesitation on their own because of patriotism.
6. Thanks Giving Program on 16 at Malvani August 2016
Thanks Giving Program is organized every year to show gratitude towards police and fire brigade
personnel. They serve for society despite of their own family and personal problems. This time volunteers
visited and thanked them for their brave and social hard work giving bouquets as token of love and
respect to Malvani Fire Brigade Personnel.
7. Eye Check Up Program for Police and AET Staff Members on 3 September 2016
Volunteers participated in an Eye Check Up Drive organized by Atharva Foundation for Mumbai Police.
Volunteers helped them to make this even successful.
8. Ganpati Visharjan Crowd Management at Marve Beach, Malad (W)
Mumbai celebrates Ganpati Visharjan enthusiastically. NSS Unit helps Mumbai Police every year to
maintain discipline and to avoid any accidents or misfortune. Male volunteers served for a day and full
night for above reason at Marve Beach on 15-16 September 2016.
9. Beach Clean UP Drive next day of Ganpati Visharjan on 16 September 2016
Very next day of Ganpati Visharjan; we find idol and garbage on beaches. Our female volunteers ogranized
beach clean up drive at Malvani Beach on 16 September on next day of Ganpati visharjan. They collected
plastic bags, empty plastic bottles, garlands and Ganpati idols and handed over to BMC official at the same
place.
10. NSS Atharva Foundation Day Celebration on 19 September 2016
NSS unit of Atharva is established on 6 September 2012. This unit celebrates this day in a different way.
We begin this event with a tree plantation in the campus. Senior volunteers organized Presentation
Competition for newly required volunteers and best three presenting groups were awarded. The purpose
of such competition is to boost volunteer's confidence and personality. University certificates are distributed
to the volunteers who have
completed two years in NSS. Program is over after nation anthem and cake cutting has been done in the end.
11. Stress Management Seminar on 23 September 2016
NSS Atharva organized a half day seminar on Stress Management on 23 September 2016. Special Chief
guests were invited from Young Women's Christian Association(YWCA). Mr. Santosh Jandal and Mrs.
Sangeeta Harjani hold the seminar and increased confidence of present students. The focus was on stress
management, especially on stress faced by students while studying. Various tactics were given to the
students to handle them. Principal Dr. S.P. Kallurkar, Mr. Santosh Jandal, Mrss. Sangeeta Harjani, Faculty
members, Program Officer, NSS volunteers and first year students were present for the same.
12. Adoption of a Prashik Special Kids School for one day at Bhayandar (E) on 28 September 2016
Our unit has adopted Prashik Special Kids School for a day situated at Bhayandar (E) for a day on 28
September 2016. The student strength of the school was about 50. Age of students of this school was from
5 years to 50 years. We have conducted various activities there like
Passing the ball
Kite making and funn
Dance
Dance competition
Showing motivational videos and short animated films
Lunch time: food sharing
Sharing of opinion by school kids
Thanks giving and conclusion
Faculties and students requested us to visit the school frequently. Volunteers got special experience being
among such students. All the kids were present there were very innocent and special but one thing was
common in them; that was Happiness despite of being special which taught them a lesson of Happiness.
13. Participation in Women Safety Workshop on 3 October 2016
This workshop was organized by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer(IEEE) Atharva
Department on 3 October 2016. Karate tricks were taught and self help tips were given to present female
students.
14. Bhajan Sandhya, at Gateway of India on 2 October 2016
University of Mumbai organizes Bhajan Sandhya every year on account of World Peace Day on 2 October
at Gateway of Mumbai. Students from all NSS units participate in the same program. Our volunteers
participated inthesame on 2 October.
15. Disaster Management Workshop at KES Shrrof College between 3 - 7 October 2016( attended by
Kaushik Salvi second year, EXTC)
5 Day workshop on Disaster Management was organized university at KES Shroff college between 3
October to 7 October 2016. Master Kaushik Salvi, student of EXTC, second year attended the same
workshop. He is advised to conduct one day workshop on disaster management in the college to spread the
awareness and tips of being safe in natural calamities and accidents.
16. Seminar on How to Prepare and Face Placement Selection Process on 10 October 2016
Atharva College of Engineering has a Training and Placement Department. It provides good opportunities
to its students. Many students from NSS unit got selected in various companies like Accenture, Tech
Mahindra and Infosys . NSS unit decided to organize 3 hours seminar on How to Prepare and Face
Placement Selection Process by selected volunteers only. All the volunteers got selected in the companies
shared their valuable experiences with new volunteers. They covered technical, non technical,
communication, general awareness, personality development, interview, group discussion, aptitude test and
attitude etc. The main purpose of this seminar was to make students aware of selection process and make
them confident.
17. Convocation Program at Kalina, Campus: 16 January 2017
University of Mumbai Convocation program was organized by the university on 16 January 2017 at Kalina
Campus. Business tycoon Mr. Mukesh Ambani was the chief guest of the program. Degree certificates were
distributed and a motivational speech was given by the chief guest. Voice Chancellor Mr. Sanjay Deshmukh,
university officials and nss volunteers were present for the event
.
18. Celebration and Performance on Republic Day 26 January 2017
Unit actively participates on stage every national festivals at college and outside the campus too. This time
unit has performed street play on social topic. A patriotic dance and a song have been sung by unit on the
stage. Students appealed audience to not throw plastic and paper flags.
19. Voters Day Pledge 25 January 2017
As per university's guidelines, unit has organized vote's pledge and awareness campaign at college on 25
January 2017. Main objective of this event was to spread motivate students to cast their vote for the betterment
of the nation.
20.Flag Pick Up : 27 January 2017
NSS unit organizes flag pick up drive next day of every Independence Day and Republic Day at various places
of Mumbai. Unit has picked up more than 400 plastic and paper flags which were thrown on roads and in
gutters. Unit organizes this event to stop insult of the nation which took place unknowingly by some citizens of
the nation.
21.Donation Collection Drive : 8,9,10,14,15 February 2017
DONATION DRIVE FOR CANCER PATIENTS:
"It is often in the darkest skies that we see the brightest stars."
And look what we just found…we just found some real gems which can be metaphorically compared to the
brightest stars present on the floor.
These are none other than the people who just haven"t been as healthy as what we look but consist of a strong
heart and a sense of willpower which non other could have ever witness.
They just live in present as according to them "Yesterday was history , tomorrow is a mystery but today is a
gift that's why it's called PRESENT"
So we as NSS unit of Atharva College Of Engineering positively teamed up and planned to organize "A
Donation Drive" for cancer patients within the college premises under the guidance of our Program Officer
"Mr Kishore Parate" as we consider it a small step towards a good deed that may enlighten up the life of these
people suffering a whole lot of hardship.
So as a result , the drive got such an overwhelming response and we would like to thank everybody who has
been a part and parcel of this program ,lightning up the future of these fortunate cancer patients.

22.School Adoption at Wada 13 February 2017
NSS team adopted Palshi Ashram School, situated at Wada Dist. Palgar on 13 February 2017. Educational
encouragement was the main objective of the event. Following activities undertook by the volunteers at
school.

23. Workshop on Cyber Crime: 16 February 2017
A seminar always tends to be an informative session which always lead to improvisation of ones knowledge
and spreading awareness amongst people attending it.
Similarly we (NSS Unit) at Atharva College Of Engineering in collaboration with WDC unit invited Mr Pankaj
Bafna,a lawyer by profession to be the speaker for the seminar and share his immerse knowledge for the same.
The seminar was a very interactive 2 hour session and it was a two way session with both speakers as well as
students interacting in the same. Some of the points discussed in the seminar were the real time cases that he
faced in his professional career and have one could defend oneself from this computerised era which is
frequently prone to hatching attacks.
Finally the session was concluded by Sangeeta Mam from women development cell (WDC) and vote of thanks
given by our NSS candidate thanking our guests and the speaker for sharing his precious time as well as
immerse knowledge one could posse
NSS Unit and Women Development Cell jointly organized a workshop on Cyber Crime for college students
om................. Special guest from WDC Mumbai Mr. ................................. was invited to conduct the
workshop. Cyber crime and its various impacts on students and girls were discussed and solutions also given
in this workshop. Principal Dr. S.P.Kallurkar, WDC Head Mrs. Sangeeta Kumble, NSS volunteers and college
students were present for the workshop.
24.HIV Affected Home Visit: 17 February 2017
Volunteers visited home situated at Goregaon named Desire Orphanage on 17 February 2017. Students spent
their time with HIV affected kids who have no biological guardians. They played games with them and tried to
make them happy.
25.Adoption of School Kids of Dharivali for Educating Them on Regular Basis
Volunteers use to go at IT Park Dharivali village on regular basis. Students from different schools gather there
and volunteers teach them academic related subject and perform various activities to rise their morale.
Volunteers go there every Saturday.
26.Two Days Residential Camp at Shantivan, Panvel: 25 to 26 February 2017
Special People's Home Visit Shantidhaan Aashram, Gorai 1 March 2017
Shantidhaan is a home where mentally retarted and physically challenged people use to live who came from
different regional part of the country. Volunteers gave their time to make them happy and donated some
clothes.
27.School Adoption at Maan, Vikramgadh: 2 March 2017
Team has organized one day school adoption program at Maan Aashram, Vikramgadh, Taluka Dahanu, Dist.
Palghar on 2 March 2017. Following activities have been undertaken at school. Objective of organizing such
program is to motivate school students for study and make their career and make students more familiar with
strangers.

28.Road Safety Awareness : 6,7,8 March 2017
Organizing road safety awareness program in Malad area every year has became a regular activity of unit. NSS
Unit spread the awareness about how to follow driving rules and save personal and others lives. They use
placards and banners during the campaign. This time volunteers organized three days program at Mith Chowki
with help of Mumbai Police.
