First Graders are getting very excited
about their up-coming field trip to
Hobson’s Fun Farm in Rockville on Friday,
October 3rd! Please return your child’s
permission slip ASAP! The Attica PTC is
covering the cost for students, so there
will be no admission fee for your child to
attend. All parents attending the field
trip will need to drive separately (or car
pool with other parent chaperones), and
there is a $6 entry fee for all adult
chaperones. All students and parent
chaperones will need to bring a sack lunch,
including a drink, for the field trip. Also,
just a friendly reminder that as the days
are beginning to get cooler – especially in

appropriately for the outdoor weath-

day at 11:15 A.M., and another time in
the afternoons.

Technology Talk… In the Computer Lab, we have been working on a
variety of activities. The Kindergarten and 1st graders have visited websites such as www.scholastic.com and www.ABCya.com. They have been focusing on practicing their reading skills on the computer. They have been using their mouse manipulation skills and
learning how to maneuver around websites. Grades 2-6 have been using the internet for a variety of different Internet Research assignments. Grades
2nd, 3rd, and 4th have been using www.enchantedlearning .com and the Little Explorers picture dictionary to find answers for “find it quizzes.”
They are still practicing their keyboarding as well. Fifth grade completed an animal research activity and then using the information they found on their animal made
a cinquain poem using their word processor. Sixth grade has been working on an Inventors and Inven-tions internet research activity and using Microsoft Publisher to make a graphical organizer with the
information. All the students have been working hard
and doing great work!

on October 20 & 21 from 3:00-7:00 each day. An initial letter was sent home this week
and needs to be returned by September 29. Teachers will take that information and set a schedule for both days and then send you a
copy of your date and time. The Fall Book Fair will be September 29 –
October 2. A percentage of books sold will go to our library to purchase more books for the
students.

Life Skills The Life Skills classroom has been hard at work on feelings. We have made happy
faces and angry faces in our journals as well as read about both. We have just started on
sad and will continue it next week. We learned that when we are angry we can
"Belly Breathe" and that will help to calm us down. We have been working on telling the
difference between a letter, word and sentence. The students are hard at work!
Kindergarten Kool Kids
Kindergarten is so excited that we have now met six Superkid friends. We continue to work on letters, sounds, and following directions. We will be going on a field trip to Hog Wallow Farm on Friday, October
17th
. More information will be coming home soon. If you are willing to volunteer for the Fall Carnival, please let your child’s teacher know that you are willing to do
this.
Art Room Adventures
The students in the Art Room have
begun to explore several different
American Artists. Sixth grade will
learn about Wayne Thiebaud's dessert
series while fifth grade will study
Jasper Johns and his American Flags
project. Third and fourth grade will
both study pop art by Roy Lichtenstein
and Andy Warhol. Second grade will
learn about the works of Frank Stella,
specifically his Protractor Series, as
first grade learns about Georgia
O'Keefe's famous flower paintings.
Kindergarten will probably have the
messiest project as they explore splatter
painting based on the works of Jackson
Pollock. It should be a very interesting
unit!

PE News
We had a rough start to our soccer unit with
rain in the forecast two weeks ago we only
made it out a few times. During that time we
also did a writing assignment that discussed
MyPlate to MyFamily and students wrote a
letter to family members explaining why it is
important to eat from each of the five main
food groups. Students also listed their
favorite foods in each food group. During our
soccer unit we discussed dribbling and
trapping the ball. Starting this week we have
been doing LitPE warm-up relay races where
students run down and spell a spelling word
or a Marzano’s Vocab word.
We have discussed the five main Fitness
Components and are working on
Cardiovascular Strength and Muscular
Strength. Students in grades 3-6 are wearing
pedometers during class and tracking how
many steps they are taking so they try to be
continuously moving. We are also using the
StratFit System on the climbing wall that
uses resistance bands to work our muscles.
Our first Breakfast in the Classroom and
Walk/Bike to School Day was a success, we
had lots of kids walking. The kids seemed to
enjoy Breakfast in the classroom eating with
classmates and their teachers.
Through Fuel up to Play 6o I have received a
grant and we did Red Rambler Taste Testing
of Flavored milk and students received
stickers promoting 3 servings of dairy a day.
Students who sign up online for FUTP60 will
receive a prize!! We currently have 40
students signed up and have dropped to 8 in
the rankings in Indiana. Students who go

and exercise receive points for themselves
and for our school.
BOKS will resume October 14th. If you would
like a form to sign up they can be found
outside the office or you can send me an
email.
If there are any concerns that I should know
about, don’t hesitate to email me at
I will also be collecting MY COKE REWARD
Points found on Coke Products Caps and
Cases and Labels for Education.
