The aendants of the meeng included ambassadors of PSPP and the core commiee members of AEIRC. It was a bi-annual meet-up of the enre team in order to evaluate the tasks of the year, and discuss the prospect of the upcoming events. Ms. Sadaf Ahmed (CEO, AEIRC) gave her views on the performance of each individual and encouraged everyone to work posively towards achieving the goals of spreading awareness, maintaining an environment of goodwill and helping each other in order to be a good team member. The ambassadors also gave their own feedback in terms of their experience in the society so far, showed interest in playing their role towards the team and shared their moments of learning with all. A wide range of ideas were discussed and everyone leſt on a note of posivity to see this year to compleon as a team where each member cause dedicated and upholds the task of represenng PSPP in a good way. A meeting of Pakistan Society of Psychophysiology (PSPP) ambassadors was held on 22nd August, 2014 at Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC), Karachi. The attendants of the meeting included ambassadors of PSPP and the core committee members of AEIRC. It was a bi-annual meet-up of the entire team in order to evaluate the tasks of the year, and discuss the prospect of the upcoming events. International Youth Day was celebrated on 12th August, 2014 Worldwide and the theme this year was “Mental Health

Matters”. Youth Festival was celebrated in Karachi, entitled “I am Karachi” organized by Sports and Youth Affairs De-

partment, Government of Sindh, Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC) was represented on this

day by the dynamic leader Mr. Shamoon Noushad (MD, AEIRC) who was invited as guest speaker and spoke on the

stressors that burden the youth of Pakistan and also pointed out the facts and figures of the real time problems and

the possible solutions. He also encouraged the participants to bring the problems they face into notice by writing it

down and making their word reach the public. Also, he talked on the basis of results formulated by means of Sadaf

Stress Scale questionnaires and revealed the stress types and the figures in which they are affecting our youth. It was

an effort by team AEIRC to share their findings with everyone and to empower the youth by teaching them to identify

their stressors and to beat the stress.

Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC) attended a three day conference entitled “Diabetic foot

symposium” held at Regent Plaza, Karachi from 22nd – 24th August, 2014. The symposium was arranged by Pakistan

Working Group on Diabetic Foot (PWGDF) in collaboration with Baqai Institute of Diabeteology and Endocrinology

(BIDE). It was a gathering to elaborate the current findings regarding Diabetic foot management and to pave a way for

future endeavors in this field. AEIRC having a firm belief in learning from all possible sources, attended all three days

of this symposium and gained an insight to the findings of people from all over Pakistan.

The Leader is a firm believer in continuing the journey of learning forever. Advance Educational Institute and Re-

search Centre (AEIRC) was represented at the scientific session of the Diabetic Foot Symposium organized by Baqai

Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology (BIDE) held on 23rd August , 2014 at Regent Plaza, Karachi. The symposium

revolved around the myths and facts related to diabetes and the associated complications. The CEO of AEIRC, Dr. Sa-

daf Ahmed presented her study on Diabetic Neuropathy at the scientific session and won the 1st prize for the Best

oral presentation. It was a moment of extreme honor for the entire team when the leader of the team presented

and emerged out as a winner.

One day seminar entitled “Do Nutrition cause stress?? Review your diet” organized by Advance Educational Institute

and Research Centre (AEIRC) and Pakistan Society of Psychophysiology (PSPP) was held on 16th August, 2014 at A Q

Khan Centre, Institute of Behavioral Sciences (IBS). It was the 5th session of the seven strings of stress planned by

AEIRC & PSPP. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan was the guest of honor for this session. Introduction to IBS was provided

by Shahla Ahmed (IBS) and the speakers included Dr. M. Zafar Iqbal Abbasi (BIDE), Shamoon Noushad (AEIRC), Sa-

daf Ahmed (AEIRC), Iffat Naz (PNDS) and Dr. Syed A. Aziz (Health Canada). The speakers spoke on the stressors of

nutritional stress, ways to spot and identify the stress and to jot down methods to cope with the associated threats of

nutritional stress. It was an interactive and illuminating session for one and all, clarifying the concepts of a healthy diet.

The participants engross the knowledge with questions of their own, generating a well addressed Question-Answer ses-

sion. The participants were also evaluated about their nutritional stress level by means of Sadaf Stress Scale (SSS).

The Women Health Research Division of AEIRC placed “Breast Cancer Awareness” stall on occasion of “Health Mela”

at Staff Club, University of Karachi on 28th August, 2014 at the occasion of Golden Jubilee celebrations of Department

of Pharmacy. It was an effort to spread awareness in terms of risk factors and associated consequences, the need of

regular health checkups were emphasized and the awareness material regarding Breast Cancer were also distributed

among the participants. The participants included students from a wide range of educational background and disci-

plines, parents and certain teachers also visited the stall. People were measured on their BMI and Body fat distribu-

tion in order to identify the status of their health. It proved to be a stall that was continuously swarmed by people

who were eager to gain knowledge regarding their health. Overall, it was a day full of dedicated serving for the entire

team

Annals of Psychophysiology is an annual journal

The Psychophysiology Research division of AEIRC placed the “Stress Evaluation booth” at Department of Pharmacy, University of Karachi on 28th August, 2014. It was on occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Pharmacy De-partment that a “Health Mela” was observed. On this occasion Team AEIRC and Pakistan Society of Psycho-physiology (PSPP) served the participants with free evaluation of seven different types of stress by means of Sadaf Stress Scale (SSS). The stress types included Physical, Mental, Traumatic, Psychosocial, Nutritional, Emotional and Chemical Stress. It was a full day task for the entire team, where scores of people kept swarming to get their stress level checked. Participants were counsel on ways to cope with particular stress types and each participant was evaluated and tended to upon each question asked.

Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC) and Pakistan Society of Psychophysiology (PSPP) in collab-

oration with Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, held a seminar on “Emotional wellbeing; A

necessity of mind” on 13th September, 2014 at A. Q. Khan Centre, Institute of Behavioral Sciences (IBS). This was the

sixth session of the “seven strings of stress” planned by AEIRC and PSPP. The speakers for the session included Sadaf

Ahmed (CEO, AEIRC), Shamoon Noushad (MD, AEIRC), Syed Zain Azher (General Secretory, PSPP) and Dr. Zsuzsanna

(ALIVE) who discussed the stressors, identifying methods and coping strategies for emotional stress. A great deal of

emphasis was on positive attitude building and giving a direction to thoughts in order to cut down on emotional

stress. Participants were also evaluated by Sadaf Stress Scale (SSS) to determine their level of Emotional Stress and

counselling was provided by the representatives of the Psychophysiology Research Division- AEIRC.

Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC) was represented by the CEO, Ms. Sadaf Ahmed at One day training workshop on “Development, Plan-ning and Management” organized by Bin Qasim Subdivi-sion in collaboration with Social Welfare Training Insti-tute, Karachi Social Welfare Department, Government of Sindh on 22nd September, 2014. Ms. Sadaf Ahmed was invited as speaker for the session on Management, in which she spoke on the management, structure and function of organization and conducted various activities to keep the session interactive. Other speakers included Dr. Sabir Michael (Social Work Department, University of Karachi) and Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat (Sociology De-partment, University of Karachi) spoke on Development and planning respectively. The workshop participants included social workers from different areas of Sindh, who were there for training on organizational behaviors

In light of the Independence day of Pakistan, Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre and Paki-stan Society of Psychophysiology launched a new pro-ject by the name of “Youth Apprenticeship Pro-gram” (YAP), which is a platform for youth to explore their potentials and gain a firsthand chance to join the team as learners. The major focus of this project is to engage youth in writing by providing a vast platform that already exists at AEIRC in shape of journals, mag-azines and book series. Because the youngsters have many ideas which they never discuss due to fear of rejection, these ideas could be better utilized by them by means of writing it down and sharing it with public. AEIRC believes that the youth of Pakistan has a great amount of potential to excel in their respective fields, the only need is to bring their energies on the path of positivity and provide them a direction of learning that chisels their potentials to be of value to the socie-ty .

in collaboration with Sports and Youth Affairs Department,

Government of Sindh arranged one day workshop entitled

“Psychosocial trauma in Youth” on 26th September, 2014 at

Koohi Goth Women Hospital, Karachi. It was an effort to

train the youth in terms of identifying and managing trau-

ma and holding on to get positive outcomes. The workshop

was facilitated by Ms. Sadaf Ahmed and Mr. Shamoon No-

suhad who spoke on the problems faced by youth and the

resulting stress and distress. The participants were also

evaluated on their level of psychosocial stress by means of

Sadaf Stress Scale. Counselling and management tech-

niques were also provided by means of interactive sessions

Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC) in collaboration with Sports and Youth Affairs Depart-

ment, Government of Sindh held one day seminar entitled “Qalam; the first defense line- a power of youth” on 30th

September, 2014 at Baqai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (BIPS). The main idea behind this seminar was to em-

phasize upon the need of writing and to motivate the youth in terms of writing down their thoughts as writing is the

surest way of making your word reach the masses. The speakers for the session were Ms. Sadaf Ahmed (AEIRC) and

Mr. Shamoon Noushad (AEIRC) who spoke on the need of writing and ways to enhance writing skills. Also, a great

deal of talk was held upon publishing the written material and pathways to achieve a good standard of writing. The

participants included undergraduate and post graduate students of Baqai who got their various queries answered by

the speakers. Overall, it was an effort to bring to light of youth the platforms that do exist and to clarify that writing is

the surest way of making a difference, of making ideas known.

Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC) believes in serving with dedication and in this case, the

team extends their teachings to one and all. Koohi Goth Women Hospital, is one of those places where the team vis-

its to teach and distribute the pearls of knowledge. The task taken up by AEIRC is to teach Human Physiology to the

nurses and midwives enrolled at Koohi Goth Hospital. Among the many students who learn from the team leaders of

AEIRC, the greatest satisfaction is gained by teaching the students here as they are always eager to learn, extending

respect and being thankful for all that is taught. absorbing all that was delivered to them. It was a wonderful experi-

ence for team AEIRC to teach those who are willing to learn and in turn give the utmost respect to the teachers.

Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC) conducted a week long training program in August, 2014 at

Koohi Goth Women Hospital, Karachi. The training program included research training, a complete package of rules

and regulations of research conduction and its ethics. The learners included midwives, nurses and similar professionals.

The training sessions included talks on research ideas, methods, ethics, paper writing skills and much more. Positive

discussions were held and participants remained keen to learn throughout the week, asking for more information and

interactions. The participants from Mary Stopes Foundation encouraged the efforts of TEAM AEIRC.

Team Advance Educational Institute and Research Centre (AEIRC) attended a meeting regarding women empowerment

held by Aurat Foundation on 18th August, 2014 at Marriot Hotel, Karachi. This meeting marked the announcement of

projects by USAID that would do the task to enhance the position of women in our society and provide them with a

chance to have better lives. Having conducted a conference on Women Empowerment and also working on various

research projects revolving around similar agendas, AEIRC attended this meeting to be a part of the work and with

hope utilize their potentials in bringing a change and clarifying the concepts of our society regarding the gender issue.

LAUNCH OF ANNALS OF PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGY

Annals of Psychophysiology is an annual journal launched

by the Psychophysiology Research Division- AEIRC and Paki-

stan Society of Psychophysiology. It is a platform for pub-

lishing original research findings, review articles and survey

reports pertaining to the psychophysiological parameters. It

is an initiative in taking the field of Psychophysiology fur-

ther and paving a way for future research in this area. The

annals of psychophysiology aims at being the source of

guidance for those who wish to explore this science further.

Annals of Psychophysiology is committed to maintaining

high standards through a rigorous peer-review together

with strict ethical policies.

name of “The Wide Angle” which is a platform for

one and all to share their thoughts in shape of

articles, stories, comics, poems and much more.

The focus of the book series is upon social issues

in particular. It is an effort to provide people with

a path where they can voice their opinions on

various aspects of life that they observe daily and

writing down troubles that they face or see oth-

ers facing. AEIRC believes in bringing a change in

society by means of writing skills as writing down

an issue is the surest way to make it reach far and

let the troubles be heard.

RESEARCH ELECTIVE-

SESSION VII

Research Electives is one of the most prestigious and popular

course conducted by Advance Educational Institute and Re-

search Centre (AEIRC). Students from various universities hav-

ing background of medical sciences and health sciences enroll

in every session to gain a firm grip on the realities pertaining

to “Research”. A great emphasis is given on building an envi-

ronment of one on one interactions so that the students can

fully be trained in terms of initiating and conducting research

projects. AEIRC launched its summer special research elective

course this year which is actually the seventh session being

held by the institute. The aim of the team is to train students

in a way that they can contribute with their ideas and work

towards the better development of the society as a whole.

AEIRC provides the chance of working under three different

Research Divisions that come under the institute’s banner,

namely the Health Science Research Division, Psychophysiolo-

gy Research Division and Women Research Division. Students

have the chance to work with any one of the above divisions

for their research projects and in this they can gain quality

knowledge and dedicated time of the mentor they chose to

work with.
