    Two Alumni/Chapter Workdayswere a huge success thanks to12 alumni and the entire chap-ter. Forms were stripped from arecently-poured slab on thenew upper-level parking lot and

    repositioned for a newpour. Weeds were wacked,electrical improvements andrepairs were made, doors werepainted, windows cleaned andgeneral cleanup was accom-plished. On the inside of thehouse, the entire lower levelfloor was cleaned and two coatsof floor finish were applied andsubsequently power buffed bythe chapter.

    In the spring, work was doneon the upper parking lot aswell as the lower. ScottGreen AD 1176 and TroyWilliams AD 1177 with theirfuture Lambda Chi sons

    helped add two parking spaceson the lower lot.

    We would like to thank BradHeckman, father of

    new initiate Ryan HeckmanAD 1364. Brad and his friendshave been a huge help withpouring and finishing the con-crete paving of the upperparking lot at no cost to ADZ.

    The storage shed, the trophyroom, the brick planter in thechapter room, etc, or whatever

    project your class undertookfor the benefit of the chapterhouse, have either outlivedtheir useful life, are in woefulshape and are in need of re-placement, remodeling or re-building. First, we need anybrother to let us know whichproject your class donated tothe chapter house way backwhen you were a student. TheHouse Corp will take a look atthe condition of the project (ifit still exists) and develop a

    minimum budget for replace-ment or remodeling. Then wewill let the class know what thecosts will be to replace or re-furbish the old project andchallenge the class to raiseenough funds for its re-newal. So come on and let usknow about your class project.

    The 1960 Spring Pledge Classproject included the construc-tion of the L-shaped brick wall

    at the bottom of the chapterhouse driveway. During theHouse Corp meeting at St.Pats, Jon Vaninger AD 569volunteered to solicit hispledge class to provide fundsfor tuck-pointing of the wall,installation of a limestoneLAMBDA CHI ALPHA signfacing Pine St along with a 1705address and upgraded light-ing. A total of $1,460 wasdonated by 7 out of 9 membersof the class including Jon Van-

    inger AD 569, Tom Sunkel AD565, David Bailey AD 566,Gary Fehsenfeld AD 567, JoelPhilours AD 568, Frank KingAD 570 and Ted Groshong AD572. The work on the wall isexpected to be completed byHomecoming and additionaldonations are always welcome.

    Unfortunately, Dave Baileypassed away on Wednesday,

    June 23, 2010 and our condo-

    lences go out to his wife Bon-nie and his children Brian andBethany and his three grand-children. Dave was an EEgraduate and served as Presi-dent of ADZ in 1963. He wasalso in ROTC and 2nd Lt in theUS Army. Later he was em-ployed by Cooper Bussmannfor 29 years as Vice Presidentof Sales/Marketing and a SalesEngineer for General Elec-tric for 10 years.

    The fall 2010 associate classstands at 15 with a few morepossibilities before mid-

    The chapter placed 5th in intra-murals among the 21 fraterni-ties for 2009-2010 school year

    just 25 points out of 4th placewith a total of 2,984.8points. Out of 20 sports thechapter won four 1st placefinishes; a 2nd, three - 3rds, a4th and two 5th and placed in

    the top 10 in 7 other sports.

    The chapter still struggles withgrades earning a 2.64 GPAoverall for spring 2010 semes-ter (good for 14th place out of

    Lambda Chi Alpha will featureADZ in a full length article inthe February 2011 issue of the

    Cross & Crescent. Some ofthe highlights of the chapterinclude: Received over 36 na-tional LXA awards since 1930

    just 3 years after the academicawards were first imple-mented. Both Harry Kluge AD#1 and former High Pi Col.Edward A. Owsley AD 830(both deceased) received theLXA Order of Merit for theirlengthy and dedicated serviceto the ADZ chapter. In 2001Keith E. Bailey AD 585 was

    honored with the LXA Orderof Achievement. This awardhonors those who have distin-guished themselves in theirchosen profession. These ac-complishments bring honor toLXA and serve as an inspirationto other alumni and under-graduate brothers.

    ADZ was selected for theAward of Excellence by theOrder of Omega, the Greekhonor society on the MS&Tcampus for the 2008-2009

    school year.

    Alumni of ADZ have beenrecognized campus-wide atMS&T as leaders as follows:

    Over 52 ADZ alumni havereceived Professional degreesand 5 of those also have re-ceived Honorary degrees; oneother also has a Honorarydegree.

    Three ADZ alumni have re-ceived the Chancellors Medalfor long term dedication andexemplary service to theschool and the state of Mis-souri.

    Over 34 ADZ alumni havebeen elected to their respec-tive Academic DepartmentAcademy including Chemical,Civil, Computer Science, Elec-trical and Computer, Engineer-ing Management, Mechanicaland Aerospace and Mines andMetallurgy.

    10 have been selected as Hon-orary Knights of St Patrick.

    3 are in the Universitys Ath-

    letic Hall of Fame.

    John W. Rayl AD 234 whograduated in 1942 lost his life inWWII and Rayl Cafeteria on

    the Quadrangle is named in hismemory.

    Stories about these and otheralumni will be featured in thearticle.
