Some English verbs, which we call state, non-continuous or stative
verbs, aren’t used in continuous tenses (like the present continuous,
or the future continuous). These verbs often describe states that last
for some time. Here is a list of some common ones:
Stative (or State) Verb List
like know belonglove realise fithate suppose containwant mean consistneed understand seemprefer believe dependagree remember mattermind recognise seeown appear look (=seem)sound taste smell
hear astonish denydisagree please impresssatisfy promise surprise
doubtthink (=have an opinion)
feel (=have an opinion)
wish imagine concerndislike be havedeserve involve include
lackmeasure (=have length etc)
possess
owe weigh (=have weight)
A verb which isn’t stative is called a dynamic verb, and is usually an
action.
Some verbs can be both stative and dynamic:
Bebe is usually a stative verb, but when it is used in the continuous it means ‘behaving’ or ‘acting’
you are stupid = it’s part of your personality you are being stupid = only now, not usually
Think think (stative) = have an opinion
I think that coffee is great think (dynamic) = consider, have in my head
what are you thinking about? I’m thinking about my next holiday
Have have (stative) = own
I have a car have (dynamic) = part of an expression
I’m having a party / a picnic / a bath / a good time / a break
See see (stative) = see with your eyes / understand
I see what you meanI see her now, she’s just coming along the road

Taste taste (stative) = has a certain taste
This soup tastes greatThe coffee tastes really bitter

Verbs in English can be classified into two categories: stative verbs and dynamic verbs. Dynamic verbs (sometimes referred to as "action verbs") usually describe actions we can take, or things that happen; stative verbs usually refer to a state or condition which is not changing or likely to change. The difference is important, because stative verbs cannot normally be used in the continuous (BE + ING) forms. This will explain the differences between the two types of verb, and give lots of examples of each kind.
Dynamic verbs
There are many types of dynamic verbs, but most of them describe activities or events which can begin and finish. Here are some examples:
Dynamic Verb
Type Examples
play activityShe plays tennis every Friday. She's playing tennis right now.
melt processThe snow melts every spring.
The snow is melting right now.
hit momentary When one boxer hits another, brain damage can result.
action(This suggests only ONE punch.)
When one boxer is hitting another, brain damage can result. (This suggests MANY repeated punches.)
Dynamic verbs, as you can see from the table above, can be used in the simple and perfect forms (plays, played, has played, had played) as well as the continuous or progressive forms (is playing, was playing, has been playing, had been playing).
Stative verbs
Stative verbs usually refer to a state or condition which is quite static or unchanging. They can be divided into verbs of perception or cognition (which refer to things in the mind), or verbs of relation (which describe the relationships between things). Here are some examples:
Stative Verb
Type Examples
hate perception I hate chocolate.
believe perception She believes in UFOs.
contain relation The box contains 24 cans of soda.
own relation Yong owns three motorbikes.
Note that we CANNOT use these verbs in the continuous (progressive) forms; you CAN'T say "*Yong is owning three cars." Owning is a state, not an action, so it is always in the simple form.
Example verbs
Here some common stative and dynamic verbs. The lists may help you to understand what types of verbs are likely to be stative and what types are commonly dynamic.

Estos verbos son los que nos describen condiciones, situaciones o fases, y con estos no se
utilizan las formas continuas.
Un ejemplo es como decir: I have a bike, por lo cual no decimos I´m having a bike.

como opinión, duda, acuerdo o desacuerdo:

Hay algunos verbos que además de ser stative verbs, son también dynamic verbs que nos

We can put adverbs in different positions in sentences. There are three main positions but
also a lot of exceptions.
In English we never put an adverb between the verb and the object.

1) Adverb at the beginning of a sentence

If there are more adverbs at the end of a sentence, the word order is normally:

Stative verbs are verbs that show a state and not an action.
You can group verbs that show a state in the following ways:-
Verbs that show thought - know, believe, undertand etc.
Verbs that show possession - have, own, want, contain etc.
Verbs that show senses - hear, see, smell etc.
Verbs that show emotion - love, hate, want, need etc.
There are regular and irregular stative verbs. But when they are used to show a
state they do not take the -ing form.
For Example:
I like ice cream. (Never "I am liking...")
I know a lot of English words. (Never "I am knowing...")
However, some verbs can be used to show an action or a state.
For Example:
I think English is easy. = It is my opinion.
I'm thinking of joining a new course. = I am considering it.
All the auxiliary verbs except be, do and have are called modals. Unlike
other auxiliary verbs modals only exist in their helping form; they cannot
act alone as the main verb in a sentence.
Be, do, and have also differ from the other auxiliaries in that they can also
serve as ordinary verbs in a given sentence.
The modal verbs are:-

Gramática
A continuación se indican las reglas generales sobre la colocación del adverbio en la oración, si bien hay numerosas excepciones
1.- Adverbio de modo
Ejemplos:
carefully, honestly, quickly, silently, happily, quietly, well, badly...
Se coloca detrás del verbo:
She eats quickly
O si la oración lleva complemento, detrás de éste. Nunca entre el verbo y el complemento:
She eats the apple quickly
La regla anterior varía si el complemento va precedido de una preposición, ya que entonces el adverbio se puede colocar delante de la preposición o detrás del complemento:
He looks for his keys desperately
He looks desperately for his keys
Si el objeto es una oración el adverbio se suele colocar delante del verbo:
He carefully looks after all the children that live with him
2.- Adverbio de lugar
Ejemplos:
down, up, everywhere, nowhere, here, there, somewhere, away, inside, upstairs...
El adverbio se coloca detrás del verbo (si no lleva complemento):
He went abroad
O si la oración lleva complemento, detrás de éste.
He sent his son abroad
Si el complemento va precedido de una preposición se coloca igualmente detrás de dicho complemento:
He went with his wife abroad
3.- Adverbio de tiempo
Ejemplos:
soon, lately, today, tomorrow, yesterday, now, afterwards, recently, yet, still...
Se puede colocar al principio o al final de la oración:
Yesterday I played tennis
I played tennis yesterday
4.- Adverbio de freuencia
Ejemplos:
always, never, often, frequently, twice, seldom, once, sometimes, usually...
Su colocación va a depender del verbo:
a) Con verbos simples:
a.1) Verbo "to be": detrás del verbo:
He is always at home
a.2) Otros verbos: delante del verbo:
He never answers the phone
b) Con verbos compuestos: detrás del auxiliar:
He has often travelled to England
c) Con oraciones interrogativas: auxiliar+sujeto+adverbio
Do you play tennis often?
d) Con oraciones negativas: detrás del auxiliar:
I haven't ever danced Rock & Roll
5.- Adverbios de oración
Son aquellos adverbios que matizan el sentido completo de la oración. Expresan la opinión del emisor.
Ejemplos:
evidently, probably, apparently, clearly, certainly, naturally, luckily, officially...
Regla general: puede ir al principio o al final de la oración (en ocasiones algunos de ellos también pueden ir en posiciones intermedias).
Evidently your car is one of the most expensive in the market
Your car is one of the most expensive in the market, evidently
Naturally you can do whatever you want
You can do whatever you want, naturally
6.- Adverbios de grado
Ejemplos:
much, very, quite, pretty, nearly, rather, completely, rarely, entirely, almost, extremely...
Se coloca delante del verbo, adverbio o adjetivo al que modifica.
Si el verbo es compuesto se coloca detrás del auxiliar.
He is completely crazy
She plays tennis quite well
He almost died from tuberculosis
This couple have completely finished their relationship
Lo primero que vamos a hacer es una clasificación con los tipos de adverbios que hay y dónde se colocan cada unos de ellos. Atención: en español tenemos mucha más libertad a la hora de colocar los adverbios, en inglés tenemos que seguir estas reglas.
Después y para que se nos quede bien vamos a hacer unos cuando ejercicios.
Ya vereis como al final todo queda muy claro.
1.- Adverbio de modo
Ejemplos:
-carefully- cuidadosamente -honestly- sinceramente -quickly- rápidamente -silently- silenciosamente -happily- felizmente -quietly- calladamente
-well- bien-badly- mal
Lo colocamos detrás del verbo:
-She eats badly. Ella come mal.
Pero ¡cuidado! Si la frase tiene complemento, obligatoriamente va detrás de éste. Nunca entre el verbo y el complemento.
Ejemplo:
- He eats the orange (complemento: the orange) quickly. Él come la naranja rápidamente.
Nota:La regla anterior varía si el complemento va precedido de una preposición, ya que entonces el adverbio se puede colocar delante de la preposición o detrás del complemento.
Ejemplos:
-She looks for her keys desperately. Ella busca las llaves desesperadamente.-She looks desperately for her keys. Ella busca desesperadamente sus llaves.
Si el objeto es una oración, el adverbio se suele colocar delante del verbo:

Ejemplos: -down-abajo-up- arriba -everywhere- en cualquier lugar-nowhere- en ningún lugar -here- aquí-there- alli -somewhere- en algún lugar-away- fuera -inside- dentro-upstairs- arriba
Los colocamos detrás del verbo (si no lleva complemento. Si lo lleva seguimos la regla que hemos puesto arriba)
Ejemplo:
-She went abroad. Ella salió al extranjero.
Ejemplo con complemento:
-She sent his son abroad. Envió a su hijo al extranjero.
Si el complemento va precedido de una preposición se coloca igualmente detrás de dicho complemento:

4.- Adverbios de frequencia
Ejemplos:
-always-siempre -never- nunca -often- frecuentemente-frequently- frecuentemente -twice- dos veces -seldom- rara vez - once- una vez -sometimes- a veces -usually- generalmente
Aquí tenemos que aprendernos una regla importantisima que nunca ya
vamos a olvidar.

-I am always at home. Siempre estoy en casa.

Order of Adverbs - La Posición del Adverbio
En inglés, no hay tanta libertad en la colocación del adverbio como en español.
La posición del adverbio va ligada a la función que desempeña en la oración. Así, si modifica a un verbo, generalmente se coloca detrás de mismo.
Ej. I drove very fast. Conduje muy rápido. She spoke slowly. Habló despacio.
Debe colocarse delante del adjetivo, participio o adverbio al que modifica.
Ej. very good muy bueno incredibly stupid increíblemente estúpido wonderfully exciting maravillosamente emocionante
Existe algunas excepciones:
Very nice indeed. Muy amable ciertamente. It’s not good enough. No es lo suficientemente bueno.
Adverbios de Frecuencia (always, never, sometimes, usually, often etc.)
Normalmente se colocan justo delante del verbo principal.
Ej. We have never seen Paris. Nunca hemos visto Paris. We usually go out Saturday night. Normalmente salimos Sábado por la noche.
También se puede poner al final o en posición inicial:
Ej. Sometimes we go to the cimena. A veces vamos al cine. She phones me occasionally. Elle me llama de vez en cuando.
Cuando la frase es interrogativa, el orden es auxiliar + sujeto + adverbio + verbo principal.
Have you ever seen Paris? ¿Has visto alguna vez Paris?
Siempre siguen al verbo 'to be', excepto en el imperativo:
I'm often in London. A menudo estoy en Londres.
never be late! ¡no te retrases nunca!
Siempre siguen los verbos modales:
You can always phone me at home. Siempre puedes llamarme a casa.
Adverbios con objeto directos
Los adverbios no suelen colocarse entre el verbo y el objeto directo. El adverbio se coloca detrás del objeto directo o delante del verbo.
Ej. I bought it quickly. Lo compré rápidamente. She carefully lit her cigarette. Ella encendió su cigarrillo cuidadosamente/con cuidado.
Pero, cuando el objeto directo es muy largo, se pone el adverbio delante.
Ej . Phone the police immediately and tell them everything you saw outside the bank.
Llama a la policía inmediatamente y diles todo lo que viste fuera del banco.
Adverbios y locuciones adverbiales de lugar y tiempo
Generalmente se colocan al final de la frase.
Ej. I'm going to school now. Voy al colegio ahora. I asked her this morning. La pregunté esta mañana.

Now, let's go to school! ¡Ahora, vamonos al colegio! Yesterday, I went out for a drink. Ayer, salí a tomar algo.
