The Glory of Christmas Comes to Our Savior! This year Our Savior Lutheran will celebrate Christmas in a new way. In the past, there have been schoolprograms, Sunday school programs, Advent services, band and choir concerts and plenty of other events. Thisyear, all of these events will be joined together in one celebration of the newborn King. Wednesday, December12th, groups from both church and school will come together to present a program honoring the promisedMessiah. There will be several activities to help make this evening special.

A free supper will be served prior to the worship service. Menu for the evening is hot dogs and fixin’s. Aconcert featuring our school bands and choirs will be presented at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary. The service willbegin at 7:00pm. This service will feature our Sunday School and Day school students combining their talentsto tell the story once again. Our adult bell choir and vocal choir will also be part of the service. The programis told through the eyes of John the Baptist as he presents the prophets of old foretelling the coming of theSavior of the world.

The service will end outside by the waterfall, in front of a live nativity. Imagine singingSilent Night in front of a live manger with candles lighting the hillside. There will be hotchocolate and opportunities for pictures after the service with live music outside to helpring in the Christmas spirit.

This is something new for OSL and our hope is that it will become a family tradition foreveryone that comes onto the property.

Mark your calendars now for December 12th, and invite someone who needs to hear theChristmas Story once again.

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ:Over the last couple of months, you have hopefully been thinking more about the precious gift that Luther hasgiven the church in the Small Catechism. We have looked at what it is and why Luther wrote it, and it is myprayer that you have gone back and found your old Catechism and read through it once again. And in doingso, hopefully you have rediscovered all that is so great about it. So now this month, let us answer a questionthat might have been piqued by your reengaging with the Catechism:

“How can the Small Catechism be used in the life of the individual Christian?”

Luther offers us good advice when he writes in the Large Catechism, “Every morning and evening, andwhenever I have time, I read and say word-for-word the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, the Creed, the Psalms, etc. I must still read and study the Catechism daily, yet I cannot master it as I wish, but must remaina child and pupil of the Catechism, and I gladly do it.” The Small Catechism is intended to be a prayer book forindividuals and families. As we meditate on the various portions of the Catechism, we look for instructionfrom God, then look for what we can thank God for, then for what we need to confess to God, and finally, wefinish our prayerful mediation by asking God for His blessing and mercy, so we may live according to His Word.It is in this way that daily use of the Catechism is a powerful tool for the Christian life. And it is in this way thatI hope you begin to make this little treasure part of your devotional life.

In Christ’s Service and Yours,

Pastor Krieg

What do you give the person

who has everything?

Something consumable yet perpetually overflowing withblessings. For Christmas, birthday, congratulatory celebration,or just to show how much you value someone’s friendship. Ifyou already own one of these hymnalsbut are not a musician and wish youcould sing the hymns, you can nowcomplete the package with two CD’s.Jeff Armstrong gave several hours of hisown time, enduring the learning curveof the recorder, and played each tune(108 in all). If you do not have one ofthese hymnals, you should check it out. This is the collection of Pastor White’s hymns produced byGlen and Ann Putman. Some are hymns he added verses to;some he translated from the original German; but most ofthem he wrote and adapted to familiar tunes. It contains aplethora of classical art. The whole set is now available for $50.An absolute steal. A book of this quality goes for far more in amuseum gift shop or even on Amazon. If you only need theCD’s, $10 per set. Every penny will support Houston LutheransFor Life. Pastor White made the comment that this is highlyappropriate since it contains over 25 hymns dedicated tofighting the good fight to end abortion. If you would like tosupport this effort, please call, text, email, or trip Cindy Blakeand she will meet you anywhere, any time with as many asyou’d like... Until they run out. [email protected]
