Advantages of deploying SharePoint on top of Tegile Hybrid Storage Arrays
Companies are adopting SharePoint worldwide to centralize
knowledge, increase collaboration, realize actionable intelligence and
develop applications providing overall business agility.
Zebi arrays deliver a high number of low-latency I/Os (IOPs), which are
critical for delivering responsive pages and current analytics
information. In addition, Zebi arrays deliver in-line deduplication and
compression for any SharePoint server running on top of them. This
can result in a significant reduction of SQL Server licenses required to
serve the SharePoint farm. Since office content tends to be highly
repetitive, inline deduplication and compression result in significant
savings in storage space over time.
High performance: Intelligent use of DRAM, flash storage and hard disk
drives boost I/O throughput and IOPs in both physical and virtualized
SharePoint environments. DRAM and flash resources cache all
SharePoint indexes, collections and frequently accessed content.
Collection rebuilds and re-indexes are lightning fast, which keeps the
SharePoint portal current and effective.
Cost effective: Tegile Zebi Hybrid arrays deliver all-flash performance at
disk array prices. By enabling large unstructured content to be saved
outside SharePoint SQL Server databases, Remote BLOB Storage (RBS)
greatly reduces the size of SQL Server databases within SharePoint.
The performance of Zebi arrays combined with the benefits of RBS
enable Zebi arrays to simultaneously support other production
databases in addition to the SharePoint SQL Server databases.
Additionally, the reduction in SQL Server database sizes results in
dramatically better ROI for valued SQL Server Enterprise core licenses.
Data reduction for Remote BLOB Storage (RBS): Tegile‘s data reduction
technologies can dramatically cut down the amount of storage
required to host the unstructured RBS content. In-line deduplication
and compression can be applied to the extracted content inside the
storage array, delivering up to 10x savings over time. This means 2TB
of SharePoint data may fit into only 200GB on a Zebi array.
Public Cloud pricing: Tegile Agility Pricing allows customers to convert
capital intensive projects into modest monthly payments (OpEx). The
payment is tied to the capacity used on the storage
array, further reducing operational expenditures. Tegile
Agility Pricing delivers all of the advantages of public
cloud pricing with the advantages of a private cloud
deployment. Customers decide where their storage is
located and control all usage, data, security and
compliance with any regulatory requirements.
“With the implementation
of Tegile’s arrays, storage
is no longer an issue at
Aer Lingus. The
deployment has given us
more bang for our buck
and allowed a lot more
breathing space for our IT
team.” --Brian Price, IT Architect Aer Lingus

Single platform for multiple workloads: Zebi arrays support iSCSI, FC, NFS, and CIFS protocols for storage access. You
can use all protocols simultaneously on the same storage array. SharePoint, multiple SQL DBs, and other virtualized
server infrastructure can be deployed on a single Zebi array. For SharePoint using RBS, the SQL Server databases
can be deployed using block protocols and the unstructured content can be deployed using file protocols, on the
same array.
Simple to administer: Zebi arrays are easy to administer using a browser-based portal. In addition, Zebi delivers a
programmable REST API, which can be utilized with PowerShell and integrated into Microsoft System Center and
other management and monitoring frameworks. In addition to Microsoft Hyper-V, Tegile is fully integrated and
certified with VMware vSphere. Zebi arrays are certified with VMware and are easy to manage from the vCenter UI.
Reliable: Zebi Arrays are highly available with dual active-active array controllers and full hot swap capability. Zebi
storage arrays are designed for redundancy, with no single point of failure. The r ich set of high availability features
include multiple RAID options, application consistent snapshots, cloning, and remote replication, with proactive
monitoring and alerts for timely notification when issues arise.
Flexible product line: Tegile offers two hardware platforms for the Zebi arrays – Hybrid and All-Flash – to serve the
customers ’ IOPs and space requirements. Each array type can be expanded with flash and hard disk resources,
delivering the ultimate in flexibility when your environment grows.

Virus Scan: Single VDI Virus Scan can take 30,000 IOs or
more. About 66% Read and 30% Write. On
disk arrays, this task is frequently pushed off to
weekends since it would never finish before the
morning. Tegile’s inline deduplication and
compression dramatically reduce the number
of actual GBs which need to be scanned.
Update and Patch: System wide patch and update jobs can require
100,000 IOs or more, for each desktop.
Traditionally, these updates would be
scheduled over the weekends or once a month.
This leaves the company exposed to security
threats. With Tegile’s arrays, updates and
patches can be run overnight, while allowing
user to continue to work.
