Energy Status of the Republic of Tajikistan
Installed grid power - 5160 MWh; Average annual generation of electricity - 16.5
billion kWh; Length of power lines on highway - 60500 km; Number of grid customers – 1,129,500 (1989 -
862,300).
Issues and Challenges
Seasonal nature of HPP; During fall and winter seasons electric power
generation is at its lowest point while its demand is at its highest;
During summer seasons the excess of electric power is 3-7 billion kWh;
Access to the sale of surplus electricity locked in the summer, and no option to import a winter power shortage;
Since 1991, consumption of natural gas has decreased because of its deficiency.therefore the main method of space heating is by electricity
Solution to the Problem of Power Deficiency
Construction of Roghun HPP; Development of small-scale HPP industry; Development of renewable energy resources industry.
Solar Energy Potential of the Republic of Tajikistan
In the Republic of Tajikistan the sun shines 280-330 days in a year ;
Total solar radiation under clear skies reaches 7500-8000 MJ per 1 sq. m.;
Total duration of sunshine ranges from 2100 to 3170 hours per year.

Technical Challenges to Overcome for the Use of Solar Energy in the Republic
of Tajikistan
Poor quality of electricity in urban areas(required for On Grid systems);
low or high voltage network in the city; a power outage of network reverse phase sequence; Budgetary organizations have little to no
interest in the full use of energy-efficient systems;
Absence of a clear mechanism of interaction between the owners of solar systems and energy companies.
Malfunction on Grid System
System Failure due to high voltage in city network. Inverter Protection disconnects itself from the city network and switches to 10-minute standby mode to improve network parameters.
