make a rocketWhat you need• An adult to help you (this is not optional)• Empty plastic bottle• Distilled white vinegar• Baking soda• Cork• Wooden sticks or pencils• Duct tape• Scissors• Funnel• Measuring spoon• Paper towels

What to do1. Make sure that you are outside with an adult to help you.2. Before you start, make sure your cork fi ts the bottle well. If it doesn’t, you can use duct tape later to help it fi t better.

3. Make your ‘launch pad’ by taping 3 sticks evenly around the bottle to make a stand. Make sure that the opening of the bottle is on the bottom and about an inch up from the bottom of the pencils. (fi gure 1)4. Fill your bottle halfway up with vinegar. 5. Make a ‘time release’ backing soda packet by placing 1 heaping tablespoon of baking soda into the middle of a paper towel. Fold and roll up the paper towel so that the packet is small enough to fi t into the bottle and the baking soda is inside and not exposed at all. If the packet breaks, make a new one. 6. Place the backing soda into the bottle and close it with the cork quickly. (use duct tape if needed)7. Turn it over so it stands on the launching pad and is facing up

and away from anyone, and quickly step away from it.
