Bucket Wheel Stacker/ReclaimerIndustrial Solutions for the mining and materials handling industry
Advanced technology and reliabilityin Europe’s largest terminal for coal and iron ore
EMO, located at the entrance to Rotterdam’s seaport, is the largest import and export terminal in Europe for dry bulk materials, with an annual throughput of 60 million tons.In 2007 and 2012, Europe’s largest combined Bucket Wheel Stacker/Reclaimers, which were designed, delivered and erected by thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, were put into operation. In order to achieve the requirement to operate the machine with coal and iron ore at the same high capacity, the boom conveyor as well as the bucket wheel, are equipped with variable speed drives.

The special designed bucket wheel is driven by a slow motion hydraulic motor. By using variable conveyor and bucket wheel speeds the machine is able to reclaim coal and iron ore at the same capacity.
thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions and EMO - a long successful collaboration
Since the early 1970s thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions (previously PWH) designed and supplied the entire unloading, loading and stockyard equipment for the EMO terminal. The three world-wide largest grab unloaders are feeding seven Bucket Wheel Stacker/Reclaimers during the stacking operation. These machines are also transporting the reclaimed material to one of the barge unloaders or to the wagon loading systems with the latter ones being desi-gned, fabricated and installed by tkIS as well.

The compact designed slewing gear, which comprises of four hydraulic drives, is assuring a smooth, uniform, safe slewing operation and requires low maintenance.
The very high technical standard of the design and construction has made it possible to equip the machine with unmanned control system by means of 3D-scanner and GPS device, allowing for a fully automatic operation from a remote control and monitoring station of the plant.
