Advanced Project Management
OVERVIEWAccording to the US based PM Network (January 2015) Project Management will continue a decade-long trajectory of growth. From 2010 to 2020, as the profession grows by over US$6.6 trillion, the global economy will produce 15.7 million new project management jobs. Canada is named as one of three places for this growth. The Advanced Project Management Certificate can help you capitalize on this opportunity by strengthening your career options and opening new doors.
The Advanced Project Management Certificate curriculum will provide you with essential tools, frameworks and models to integrate strategy and plans for a strong execution of any project. It includes case studies, simulations, practical application, engaging learning opportunities and a chance to network face-to-face with others in the field.
The certificate’s curriculum is consistent with the project management industry standard set by the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) and prepares participants with the job competencies, knowledge and skills needed to excel as project managers.
WHO SHOULD ENROLL? This certificate is aimed at working professionals who crave advanced instruction in a subject area but don’t have time for a full graduate program. It is designed for project team members and project managers interested in pursuing a project management career, anyone who must manage projects, and anyone interested in project management work.
The University of Ottawa’s Centre for Continuing Education is a Project Management Institute (PMI)® Global Registered Education Provider (REP)
and has been approved by PMI to issue professional development units (PDUs)® for all of its project management workshops,
lectures and conferences.
EARN THE CERTIFICATEThe program consists of eight highly interactive workshops that lead to a university-level certificate in project management. Participants need to complete 5 required and 3 elective courses from the Centre for Continuing Education’s Advanced Project Management curriculum. The requirements of the certificate must usually be fulfilled within five years of initial registration to the program.
5 REQUIRED COURSES:• Requirements Gathering for Project Managers and Team Members (1 day)• Advanced Project Management: Focus on Scheduling (2 days)• Project Cost Management (2 days)• Risk Management (2 days)• Project Monitoring and Controlling (2 days)
3 ELECTIVE COURSES CHOSEN FROM THE FOLLOWING: • Managing the People-side of Multiple Projects and Priorities (2 days)• Effective Management of Project Stakeholders (1 day)• Producing Results Without Authority (2 days)• Projects In a Matrix (or Multiple Reporting) Environment (2 days)• Project Management and Organizational Change(2 days)• Results-based Management (2 days)• Project Governance (1 day)
*Certain courses of the Advanced Project Management Certificate are also offered in french.

PREREQUISITEYou must have taken the Centre for Continuing Education’s Comprehensive Project Management Basics, or equivalent, within the past 3 years.
RESULTThis certificate grants you the professional credential of the University of Ottawa’s Centre for Continuing Education’s Advanced Project Manager Certificate (APMC) which may be used on business cards and resumes. Earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) for each course taken to gain or maintain your certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP®).
