This one isnʼt covered in the book, but rather from an article written by Ron Bigelow (http://www.ronbigelow.com/articles/previsualization/previsualization.htm) for his website. We will discuss the process into previsualizing an image and the steps taken to produce your best images.

Week two – metering

This week, we will cover chapter three, “Determing Exposure,” pages 89-107. We will cover the steps used to make an accurate reading and discuss shutter and aperture priority modes for auto exposure control. We will also discuss averaging readings and spot metering.

The chapter covered this week will be chapter 11, “Learning About Lighting”, which is found on pages 406-421. Although the chapter discusses lighting in all forms of photography, we will concentrate more on the use of lighting for portraits. If time allows, we will use lights in class or take photos outside to explore how light is used in producing a flattering portrait.

Week four – taking control of your flash

Week six – How did he do that?

This show will be a collection of situations I have photographed with an explanation of my approach in each one.

If there are any questions during the six weeks, feel free to call or e-mail at the numbers provided above. The outline is subject to change, depending on what the class feels appropriate. There will be assignments given each week, with the expectation that you will e-mail your photos to me to show to the class during a presentation at the beginning of each meeting. There are no grades, and Iʼm not expecting award-winning photos every time out. I just want to help the students improve their work and share a passion for photography.
